The Meadows in Alfreton are immensely proud to hold the Quality Premium Award from Derbyshire County Council and to have consistently achieved excellent scores in the annual NHS audit of nursing care (98.46% in the most recent audit).

The Meadows is a purpose-built care home surrounded by landscaped gardens. An inviting patio is much used by residents, particularly on a warm and sunny day.

Home-cooked meals cater for all dietary and cultural needs, and snacks and hot and cold drinks are available 24 hours a day. And of course, family and friends are welcome to join their relative for meals.

On the social front, an activities coordinator organises entertainment and in-house activities to suit all tastes, including baking and crafts, flower arranging and much more.

Above all, highly experienced nurses and carers are devoted to making residents feel both nurtured and at home.

My wife is my full-time carer, and I attend The Meadows every six weeks or so for a week so that she gets a break. Having used two other care homes in the past 10-years, I find The Meadows excellent in every respect and will continue to use it as long as they will have me! It is clean, friendly, well-appointed
with very caring staff. It feels like visiting an old friend when I go, so that I am comfortable, cared for and feel safe. The staff always have time for RAK's (random acts of kindness).

He came to The Meadows from the hospital where he was suffering from delirium and was unable to be cared for at home. During his stay at The Meadows, the delirium greatly eased, and he was able to return home. During his stay, the staff were kind, polite and helpful at all times, and we are really grateful
for all the help you provided at this difficult time.

My mother came to stay at The Meadows for a week respite. We were apprehensive but needn't be. Staff very friendly and helpful. Mum really appears to be enjoying her stay. Decided to stay for another week. I would like to say a thank you to staff at The Meadows for making a really difficult time less

When my husband had a stroke, I never thought he would have to go into a care home. When we looked at The Meadow it was ok, so we let him stay. He's been in The Meadow a few months and he's settled in. If he is ok there then so am I for him to stay. We've got to know the staff and they all seem very
nice and caring, do a good job caring for their patients.

The Meadows care home is suiting both mum and dad. They have adjacent bedrooms and when possible are placed side by side in the lounge area to hold hands. The meals are excellent and thoughtfully served. My only niggle is the amount of laundry that goes missing, particularly socks and underwear. Mum
and dad are both deaf and mum can be very demanding, expecting things to be done immediately. The carers are dealing with this situation and providing an excellent service.

When we were told that our dad needed to go into a nursing home we were very unsure. But he was ill and needed 24/7 care. He was very unsteady on his feet and needed help with everything including his eating but now he is walking well, going to the toilet on his own, dressing himself and eating everything
put in front of him. The care he has received has been excellent. The nurses and carers obviously have everything right.

My sister and I would like to thank all the staff at The Meadows, Lavender Court for the care and attention our mother received during her 18 months at the home. It was a daunting decision to make when we knew she needed more care than we could give her, but from the moment she entered the home she
was settled and well looked after, and all our fears were allayed. All the staff were genuinely kind to her and dealt with any health issues she had immediately. The atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxed and we were made to feel welcome and supported by the staff, who are a credit to the organisation. We would certainly recommend the home to anyone.

Mum initially took residence at Lavender Court, but within a few weeks, it was obvious that she needed additional care. Things became difficult very quickly and necessitated in a visit to A&E. The staff recognised a deterioration in the situation and very quickly arranged for Mum to enter nursing care
at Rose Court next door.
All the staff at both Lavender and Rose Court look after the residents very well. I visit very regularly and any problem with Mum is immediately dealt with. Residents without relatives or friends are dealt with equally well. I was worried about choosing a home for Mum and reluctant to allow her to move, but I have no complaints about the care and attention she is receiving. Thank you to all the staff who do a really good job under very difficult circumstances.

What I had feared most, taking my wife (who has Alzheimer's) to a nursing home and the effect on her. When we arrived at an appointed time, I was overwhelmed with the greeting we received on arrival, a very jovial group of staff allayed my fears. She has settled in very well, everything here is done
with smiles, warmth and compassion. The manager helped me through the darkest hours of my life with comfort and advice. The staff are brilliant, creating a very relaxed, comforting atmosphere. Completely redecorated this year and spotless. I was astonished the effort they put into getting everyone into the dining room they possibly can for lunch. Drinks and snacks through the day, including visitors. 5 star hotel.

What a fantastic home. My mother got transferred to the nursing home after a spell in hospital. All of the staff there were caring, professional and nothing was too much trouble, not only for my mother but for family too. First-class home.

Couldn't be better, all staff very helpful and cheerful. My mother is being very well looked after and couldn't be in safer hands. The staff go out of their way to help and make all the patients smile.

My Mum was at The Meadows for over 4 years, both at the care home and the nursing home. Mum was, to say the least, a 'character'. She had a diverse range of needs which her carers managed with great care and sensitivity giving her dignity and compassion in difficult circumstances. It is a hard decision
to make having a parent in care but this was made easier for me by the way Mum was in, what became her home.

After a long hospital stay, Mum was too poorly to return home. She came to stay at The Meadows.
The carers made Mum feel welcome straight away and continue to go beyond their way to make Mum feel happy and comfortable. The food is homemade and is always very tasty and fulfils Mum's dietary needs.

This nursing home is very comfortable with good caring staff and nurses. They are always willing to help you with any difficulties. The only thing I feel lacking is it would be helpful if there is some aid in improving your condition like exercise or aids to improve your mind, as it is very tiresome
sitting in a chair all day. On the downside, it can be very noisy throughout the day.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2013

Since leaving school at the age of 16, I have worked in adult social care, with both the elderly and those with learning disabilities.


I started my career as a care assistant with Nottinghamshire County Council and worked my way up to a management position over a period of 15 years. During this time I completed my NVQ Level 4 in Care and Level 4 in Management and then went on to complete my Leadership and Management in Care Services Award.


I left Nottinghamshire County Council after 22 years looking for a new venture and joined the team at the Meadows as their Registered Manager in 2013.
