The Meadows in Alfreton are immensely proud to hold the Quality Premium Award from Derbyshire County Council and to have consistently achieved excellent scores in the annual NHS audit of nursing care (98.46% in the most recent audit).

The Meadows is a purpose-built care home surrounded by landscaped gardens. An inviting patio is much used by residents, particularly on a warm and sunny day.

Home-cooked meals cater for all dietary and cultural needs, and snacks and hot and cold drinks are available 24 hours a day. And of course, family and friends are welcome to join their relative for meals.

On the social front, an activities coordinator organises entertainment and in-house activities to suit all tastes, including baking and crafts, flower arranging and much more.

Above all, highly experienced nurses and carers are devoted to making residents feel both nurtured and at home.

My dad has been a resident for 5 years and I visit her every day. The home is a happy, friendly and safe place. Some of the residents can be quite demanding but the patience of the staff is limitless.
In every respect that matters, this home is 5*.

Dad's care has been excellent from the first day 2 years ago up to today. The staff are very caring, compassionate, friendly, and professional.
They pass information on about dad. He settled in really well and I wouldn't want him anywhere else.

Although my father was only a resident for four days prior to his death, his care was excellent. Staff were excellent and treated my father, mother and I with dignity and respect. They were very supportive in the final hours. The home was clean and tidy, but as a large establishment, a little noisy
at times, though unusually so. Overall, very good - we felt well looked after.

The care in this home is second to none and I would recommend it to anyone. From the moment you walk through the doors you are welcomed by friendly caring staff in all departments. My mother sadly died in the home on Friday 3rd February 2017 and the care and compassion showed to my mother and our family
will stay with us forever. We made friends at this home and we will never forget them. They have a fantastic team and we cannot fault their care in any way.

I found the home always very clean and tidy. Residents always dressed well. The food was adequate. I couldn't complain about any of the staff who were attentive and very caring. The gardens were very nice and well tended.

The care and compassion the staff and management showed our mother during her stay of one year and seven months was very good. The members of staff always made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them to do anything. The whole experience is very difficult to let a loved one go into
care however we feel as though we chose the right place as the care and dignity our mother received put our minds at rest. A big thank you to the The Meadows for how they looked after our mother in her last years.

Although my husband was a resident for only almost 4 months before he passed away, his care was faultless! All of the staff were attentive, very friendly, very caring and always cheerful. They never stopped working and were always alert and watchful.
The cleanliness - both personally and hygienically
of both my husbands needs and his room and surroundings was outstanding. They also cared about me and my well-being. The nursing staff were the same too, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, tempting and nourishing. I would not hesitate to recommend 'The Meadows' and will continue to visit occasionally to see 'my friends'.

My mother has recently become a resident at this care home as she has Alzheimer's and is not able to be cared for at home. Since living at The Meadows her mood, eating pattern and general well being has improved and she is much happier. The staff are very kind and considerate and caring well for my
mum. The staff are also approachable by visitors and family of the resident.

My mum passed away recently. She had been a resident in Rose Court, the nursing side of the Meadows Care Home. Although she had only been at the Care Home for two months, all the staff had taken her to their hearts and she was beautifully cared for in a sympathetic and dignified way. The end, when it
came, could not have been managed better and the staff's care and attention both to myself and my mum is beyond words. I will always be grateful to them for making her passing as peaceful as possible and for helping me through a difficult time.

The care home was clean, tidy and well kept. The bedrooms are well presented and the beds comfortable. The toilets are always clean. The staff are superb. They are friendly, caring and react promptly and efficiently when needed. They leave one feeling reassured that one's relative is being well cared

My aunt became a resident here and I can say with my hand on my heart that should I have to go into a nursing home The Meadows would be the home I would choose. I have informed my children of this. There is always a carer and a nurse wherever you are, they are always checking in on residents and also
asked me how I was. You can tell each and everyone of the staff including the office staff, chef and maintenance guys all care and do so by showing their respect for the elderly as if they were their own family members. I cannot say enough about The Meadows.

I brought my sister from Wales to be near me. My daughter checked out others but could not fault The Meadows, so I brought her here. Since then I have had to move her from the residential side to nursing, although the staff are good my sister kept falling. I was called out at 6.30am as she had broken
her nose. Five times in one week she fell. Since I moved her not one fall. The staff and management in the nursing side are worth their weight in gold. Every resident is treated with respect. I go in every day so tend to notice things but even the maintenance men treat them with respect. You have amazing staff in there that don't forget to laugh which in the resident's live means a lot. Go on, give them a rise, they deserve it xxx

Since leaving school at the age of 16, I have worked in adult social care, with both the elderly and those with learning disabilities.


I started my career as a care assistant with Nottinghamshire County Council and worked my way up to a management position over a period of 15 years. During this time I completed my NVQ Level 4 in Care and Level 4 in Management and then went on to complete my Leadership and Management in Care Services Award.


I left Nottinghamshire County Council after 22 years looking for a new venture and joined the team at the Meadows as their Registered Manager in 2013.
