A retirement home of elegance and distinction. Milford House, a beautiful grade II listed building and its adjoining Coach House were transformed into a tastefully renovated retirement home in 1985.

Actively involved in the national Dignity Challenge campaign, with many members of staff taking on the role of Dignity Champions. This campaign is all about putting dignity and respect at the centre of care services, with a great emphasis on treating people with compassion and respect. Dignity Champions ensure that all residents are listened to, respected and treated as individuals, and that care delivery is dictated by residents.

A reputation for providing excellent care goes well beyond the immediate locality. This is why residents come from different parts of Derbyshire, including Duffield, Hazelwood, Quarndon, Allestree, Coxbench, Derby, Ashbourne, Turnditch, Wirksworth, Matlock and Belper.

All the staff are polite, efficient, happy and very caring. We are always notified if any problems arise through behaviour or health of resident. The home is always spotless and the meals are very nutritional and varied.

I go into Milford House almost every day. The permanent staff are always welcoming and we always have lovely chats. However, I must say the temporary staff do not always say very much to both my Mum or myself.
On a positive note my mum is very happy at Milford Care and I know she is well looked after.
This is a big weight off my mind and i really must thank all the staff involved day to day for that.

The standard of care is excellent, and especially good to see is the empathy shown by all members of staff to residents. My Mum has really settled in and thoroughly enjoys many of the activities. I couldn't recommend it more.

When it was necessary for my sister to have nursing care it was upsetting. I reviewed several and settled on Milford Care. I was still nervous when she first arrived at the home. As although you hope you have done right in the placement, you never know. However I needn't have worried. As from the moment
she arrived they couldn't do enough for her......even accepting her little foilbles! She is always treated as an individual, not a number, shown respect at all times. All staff go above and beyond to ensure the residents are well cared for and importantly happy. This really is a home from home and if I could give it 10 stars I would without hesitation.

On my most recent visit I was met as usual with a cheerful welcome from staff, and my aunt a much appreciated member of the family. At a planned assessment meeting it was clear that my aunt is known, and the challenges she faces in her extreme old age are skilfully, professionally and kindly effected.

Mum has dementia and has been a resident of the coach house for a few years. Her condition is deteriorating and her mood is variable. No matter how Mum is, all of the staff are wonderful with her, patient and kind with a real concern for her wellbeing. The staff know us, we are greeted with smiles and
it feels like we are part of a family. We are always kept informed about Mum's care.

Mum went to Milford House in early December for respite after an op. The staff have, without exception, been outstanding in making mum welcome and helping her to settle in. They are kind, understanding and supportive. They do and say all the right things, and they are really getting to know Mum well.
Their expertise and compassion shine out, and it is clear when we visit that they know all the residents so well. An example of this was choir practice, when with much humour and respect and knowledge of likes, dislikes and past experiences, everyone was warmly included, making it a very positive and enjoyable afternoon. Support for us as a family has been outstanding too and hugely appreciated, especially in the quite challenging Christmas period. Thank you all.

Mum's dementia has reached the stage where she could not cope at home, even with multiple visits from home carers. The carers at Milford House are genuinely caring. The staffing ratios seem to be good.

Mum moved up to Coach House from the main house she seems generally settled and calm although her condition is deteriorating. There are fewer activities but I understand this has been addressed. She does not engage much which is not the fault of the staff. Staff are unfailingly kind and take the time
to respond when required.

The care received by my dad Geoffrey is of the highest standard.
All of the staff during the 3 years that dad has been a resident have showed great compassion and work so hard to make sure dad is cared for and loved.

As soon as we arrived at Milford House we were made to feel very welcome. The staff are all very encouraging, and Mum loves taking part in all the activities. Her room is always kept spotless and the facilities in the home are to a high standard. Mum has enjoyed a good selection of interesting food.
The kitchen staff are most helpful and are aware of nutritional needs. Mum is happy and settled in Milford House and we would like to thank every member of staff for their continued commitment and support in meeting Mum's needs.

I've had a fantastic experience with Milford House. The staff are all lovely and very attentive despite clearly being busy. My grandma has nothing but positive things to say about her time so I couldn't ask for more.
The staff have gone above and beyond facilitating regular video calls for which I
am extremely grateful.

My Mother has been a resident of Milford Home since about Apr/May of 2024, I did as much research on the home as I could and finally got the opportunity to visit with some family members in April of 2025. I can't express my gratitude enough to how accommodating the staff members were to facilitate our
visit, there were a lot of us. To be able to see what a lovely home this was for my Mother to be living in and the genuine kindness, caring and love the staff have for the residents was more than I had expected. I live in Arizona and can only visit once a year, my mind is at ease that she is getting the best possible care. I can email as often as I like and they respond quickly. A big shoutout and many Thanks to all

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.854)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.854) out of 10 for Milford House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 50 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.854 for Milford House is calculated as follows: ( (515 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 595 Ratings = 4.854
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Milford House is based on 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 50 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
