My mum spent the last 4 weeks of her life at the home when her medical and care needs could not be met at home. The care they gave more than exceeded our expectations and the nurses were wonderful especially with end of life care. Highly recommend.

Staff have been consistently friendly, helpful, considerate, respectful.
Rooms are a little small and no outlook but clean.
No complaints at all.

My mother was a resident for just over 5 years, having suffered a stroke after already showing signs of dementia. She was looked after with care, thoughtfulness, compassion and kindness. The staff were always easy to speak to and gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing, especially in terms of Mum's medical needs. The building, having been built I guess in the 1960s or thereabouts was beginning to look a bit "tired" in places when Mum moved in, but ongoing improvements were made and continue to be so. The place has a comfortable, cheery atmosphere and always appears clean and fresh. The staff were particularly kind and helpful as Mum approached her death.

The care home previously looked after my mum who has now sadly passed away. When my dad was no longer able to care for himself this care home was our first choice. They offer excellent care, great communication with relatives and a warm, homely environment with activities for those who are able to participate.

My friend was sent from Hospital to the home. She was so impressed with the care she received here. I was hoping that she would be here for many years. If I have to go into a home It must be here.

My husband was in the home until his death on November 30th, having been sent there from hospital for end of life care 3 days earlier. His care was good. We have no complaint with the home but were disappointed by the NHS system because he could have ended his life in the care of the hospital where he was also well cared for.

My father has been a resident at Shelton Lock Care Home for a few months now. He has settled in well, thanks to the care and support from all the staff. He is always clean, well-fed and happy. It is reassuring for me to know he is in safe hands and is being well cared for.

Well decorated. Staff helpful, polite and friendly. Food well prepared, good selection and dining room well presented.
More stimulating activities could be provided to involve all residents which cater for after teatime, as all residents do not want to be in their room by 7pm.

The grounds seem to be neglected and not in the pristine condition as last year, not a good impression to visitors and some details i.e tissues have been removed - now have to buy.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, TBC at Shelton Lock Care Home

Thank you for your feedback which we really welcome and this has helped us to identify how we can learn from the issues you raised to ensure this is not repeated in the future. The gardens have recently been maintained by the home’s team due to the sudden departure of our gardener. I am pleased...

I was looking for a care home for my brother for over 2 months. I visited 5 homes which felt were not suitable for my brother. After some time visiting various homes unannounced I came across Shelton Lock and couldn't believe my luck. He has been here for 4 weeks and has had the best care anyone would want for a loved one. The staff are wonderful. Thank you.

My father was treated so respectfully with real care and love, all the staff were wonderful to him.
The room and food were fantastic, he had everything he needed in his final days, he was only there for 5 weeks but it was so special not just for my father but we were treated really well.

The home should be given the highest recommendation.

MANAGER PROFILE – SHELTON LOCK CARE HOME

Introducing Nicola Millar

Home Manager at Shelton Lock

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“Kindness to me is treating everyone you meet with respect and dignity, in a way in which you would expect to be treated yourself.”

After beginning her career in the care industry more than 15 years ago, Nicola has gained great knowledge of general nursing, with a specific interest in palliative care.

As a qualified nurse and dedicated healthcare professional, Nicola has gained a wealth of experience in providing care to elderly people to help enrich their lives, leading to her progression as Home Manager.

Nicola closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked what she enjoyed most about her role, Nicola remarked: “I love being able to make a difference to Residents’ and Relatives’ lives through providing compassionate, kind and high-quality care.”

Nicola credits her greatest achievement to diving the Great Barrier Reef, where she got to experience swimming with sharks.

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys an active lifestyle as she participates in Zumba, yoga and Pilates, as well as spending time with her horse and upcycling furniture.

If you would like to find out more information about Shelton Lock, Nicola has an ‘Open Door Policy’ and would be pleased to welcome you for an informal discussion.
