I found the care and kindness exceptional for my uncle all be it the last few weeks of his life. The food he was a gourmet in the Navy all his life was much to his liking. I am very pleased I found the home for him to keep independent and relaxed.

Spent time to assist residents with knitting poppies for a display. Observed staff interacting with the residents. The staff always treated residents with respect and encouraged interactions. Residents always appear well cared for. Drinks and snacks are offered during the morning. Residents needs are answered in a timely manner. There is a calm atmosphere and good relations between residents and staff.

I would like to thank all the staff who looked after my Dad with care and compassion during his short stay with you. He was transferred to Shelton Lock after a month in Hospital with a palliative care plan in place. Whenever we visited, there was a quiet, tranquil and peaceful atmosphere in the home. The staff accommodated his every wish, provided him with food and drink if and when he felt able to eat and drink, encouraged him to get dressed and sit in the lounge, but returned him to his bed when he requested it. Throughout his short stay, the family were kept well informed of his condition, we are so grateful that you allowed him to pass away with dignity and without fuss, just the way he would have wanted. Thank you all.

My aunt was brought here from hospital for end of life care. From the beginning, the staff were professional, communicative and helpful. Whilst my aunt would have preferred to spend her last day at home, she was certainly well cared for.

MANAGER PROFILE – SHELTON LOCK CARE HOME

Introducing Nicola Millar

Home Manager at Shelton Lock

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“Kindness to me is treating everyone you meet with respect and dignity, in a way in which you would expect to be treated yourself.”

After beginning her career in the care industry more than 15 years ago, Nicola has gained great knowledge of general nursing, with a specific interest in palliative care.

As a qualified nurse and dedicated healthcare professional, Nicola has gained a wealth of experience in providing care to elderly people to help enrich their lives, leading to her progression as Home Manager.

Nicola closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked what she enjoyed most about her role, Nicola remarked: “I love being able to make a difference to Residents’ and Relatives’ lives through providing compassionate, kind and high-quality care.”

Nicola credits her greatest achievement to diving the Great Barrier Reef, where she got to experience swimming with sharks.

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys an active lifestyle as she participates in Zumba, yoga and Pilates, as well as spending time with her horse and upcycling furniture.

If you would like to find out more information about Shelton Lock, Nicola has an ‘Open Door Policy’ and would be pleased to welcome you for an informal discussion.
