My Grandfather was cared for with the utmost care, until the end of his life in May 2020. My mother knew that Charnwood Oaks was exactly the right care home for my Grandfather, with big wide open corridors, large windows to look out of and space for him to move around easily. The team that looked after Grandad were exceptional in their ability to care for his needs, they were kind and loving and truly professional. I cannot thank them enough. It brought much peace during the first lockdown to know he was in a safe place with good people.
My dad was a resident at Charnwood Oaks for nearly three and a half years. As soon as I walk in I knew it was the right place, I was welcomed, a welcome that continue. It was light modern plenty of room for my Dad the wanderlust, the traveller at heart. I and my two sisters went in at different times of the week and saw first hand the personal care given. The team on section 2 are based on easy access to their residents sitting around one table with them. I was able to come in and help feed or just be with my beloved Dad. Also, I got to know the staff who we could approach with any problem. I'm so glad we can look back and know dad was not only cared for but loved by the staff. What more can you want for a beloved parent in their final years.
Sadly my dad passed away to his illness, but I'm very glad it was at Charnwood Oaks that he spent his final days.
I and my family thank the staff on unit 2 for everything they did for my dad and having been there most days and weeks visiting my dad, I can say they did and do an awesome job, above and beyond, truly caring and respectful.
My father went from January 2017 until May 2020. I found the staff on unit 2 very kind and caring, treated my dad terry smith with dignity. They were always ready to help with good advice, and I could ring them up any time during the day. The more I visited my father, the closer I became to the staff, we have always appreciated that we were able to share our thoughts and feelings regarding him and the staff took these on board. They made me feel reassured by the care they gave my father and were wonderful - especially during the pandemic. Thank you all.
One of hardest things has been not being able to visit because of Covid but I know that Mum is well looked after by all the staff in Unit 2, especially a certain young lady who's name I can't reveal due to the rules of the review policy. I'm kept well informed of any changes in Mum's health and wellbeing for which I'm very grateful. I would certainly recommend Charnwood Oaks.
I was very anxious about my dad going to live in a care home. After a stressful search, my sister and I found Charnwood Oaks and from day one we never regretted it. All the practical aspects (the room, facilities, personal care and food) are well taken care of at a high standard. Nevertheless what stands out is the loving and thoughtful attitude of all staff which truly achieves a family feeling and a ‘home from home’ atmosphere. This is definitely successful with the residents but became entirely true for us as visitors and family members more and more so as the months went by.
I can’t fault the home.
Sadly my mum passed away but I know she liked the home, the staff do an amazing job.
My mother suffered from vascular dementia. The first home she resided at couldn't cope with her behaviour (despite being a dementia care unit!) We then found Charnwood Oaks and my mother settled straight in. The rooms are very clean and modern and I can't fault the staff in their professionalism. My mother was truly happy there and the staff were very supportive when she passed away in October.
Our dad was admitted to Charnwood Oaks in September 2018, when our mum could no longer look after him at home (dementia, incontinence, cancer) and he quickly settled into life at the home. We chose the home as it was nicely furnished, the staff seemed caring and compassionate and it could cater for our dad's needs. It was good that he could spend time in the communal lounge but also in his own ensuite room when he wanted to. He went on trips to the garden centre, to schools and Safari Park and enjoyed the music sessions, gardening sessions and other regular social events run on-site. No matter what time of day we visited, the rooms were open and we never heard a raised voice nor saw anything that raised concern regarding our dad's care. When he passed away this July we were so grateful that the family could stay with him in his room, day and night, during his last few days and all the staff were so caring and considerate towards us all.
Since my mother has been at Charnwood Oaks (challenging behaviour unit - she was moved there in March 2019 from another home) my mother has improved greatly. She is calmer, cleaner, happier and I am much happier. I feel she has more care and the whole set up is professional and the staff really take the time for her. I am amazed at what they have achieved. Thank you.
I do like the staff. They work hard. But today I visited my Aunt to be told her chair that is wheeled to the lounge has broken and has been for two weeks. She said she hadn't been out of bed for two weeks. The staff said they do use a wheelchair sometimes. But why does it take two weeks plus? Also, we had to sweep the bedroom floor and we collected a dustpan pull of dust cobwebs and food debris.
My relative has continued to improve whilst in the care of Charnwood Oaks. The staff take an interest in their welfare and also look after the family.
I cannot thank everyone enough. I also know that my relative is very happy with the care and support that they are shown and this, in turn, helps me to accept that although a hard decision for them to be cared for outside of their own home - that it was the right thing to do.
Thank you all
This care home is everything you could possibly ask for in a care home for a loved one. My dad was looked after with such professionalism and compassion at the end of his life. Nothing was too much for any carer. Dad had to be turned every hour 24 hours a day due to pressure sores and could not eat and drink on his own. Not one carer ever moaned. When I asked for help they came straight away. The carers even came to keep me company after their shift had finished. They made sure dad had everything for pain relief in his final days. An outstanding home. As a family we could not have asked for anything more. This home is one in a million.
However, unfortunately, one upsetting experience for me is how I do not feel the qualified nursing staff managed my grandad's symptoms of agitation effectively. I consider that my grandad had days of distressing agitation until I requested a syringe driver pump be commenced. This did finally commence on December 26, 2016, and grandad did die peacefully on the 27th December 2016.
My father lived and was loved at Charnwood Oaks for almost two years, following a lengthy stay in hospital which rendered him disabled and unable to care for himself at home. This was a traumatic time for him. Staff quickly reassured him and made him feel safe, and established a warm, fun and caring rapport. He loved their company and I would say that he was happier there for those two years than he had been for a long time previously. He enjoyed trips out, even though these were difficult to manage, his being wheelchair bound. He loved his food. The family get togethers, such as the Christmas party and the annual bonfire night and garden party were wonderful occasions when families joined in . Nursing staff were vigilant, quick to alert us to any concern and prompt action taken. The care offered to him and to us his family, during the last few days of his life was outstanding. He made his 'final journey' from Charnwood Oaks with staff assembled to see him off.
