Booked a respite stay at short notice due to Dad needing a break. From start to finish, we were completely happy with the experience, all staff we met, were kind courteous and helpful, and Mum seemed really settled and content. The home has a lovely feel when you walk in and even we, found visits to
be very relaxing. Keep up the good work, you are a valuable part of the community.

The Manager is aware of all her residents' needs. The food is freshly cooked every day and there is a healthy balanced menu. The activity team try very hard to keep residents engaged in daily activities and know their capabilities very well. Nurses are very efficient and communicate any issues to families.
Staff are very caring and know their residents' personalities, habits, likes and dislikes etc extremely well. I feel happy and have peace of mind knowing my mum is looked after 24 hours a day and has people around her all of the time. I feel Mum being at Wood Grange is the next best place to be other than living in her own home.

The care staff are excellent with a very caring attitude as are the activities coordinators who do amazing work to keep residents happy and fulfilled. The home is in a pleasant area surrounded by houses and some wooded areas. The manager is very approachable and you get the feeling that she cares for
the residents and staff which can only improve the resident's experiences. I always feel that my mum is treated with dignity.

Since Dad has been at Wood Grange, he has flourished. He arrived from a two-week stay in hospital, looking frail and with severe mobility issues. Thanks to the wonderful care, food and company of Wood Grange staff, he is a changed man and at 93, is as active as ever. All the staff are hard-working,
caring and compassionate, and I know they all have Dad's best interests at heart. We always receive a warm welcome on arrival, are made comfortable with refreshments and made to feel part of the Wood Grange family.

I felt that the whole experience was a good one. Staff from top to bottom were courteous and helpful. Everyone of the staff interacted with my husband. The respite experience for my husband was good for my husband and myself. The food was fantastic. I would recommend Wood Grange to anyone thinking of

I was extremely disappointed with this care home. When I viewed it I was shown into a room that was clean and well decorated but the room my husband was allocated was dirty (bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied from the last incumbent); the taps in the tiny en-suite lavatory were badly corroded and one
didn’t even turn off, the carpet was filthy and the room smelled of faeces.
During the two weeks my husband was there I visited six times and on three occasions found him sitting in his own excrement. Another time I noticed he had the same clothes on for three days running and when I challenged the staff about this they admitted they had put his dirty clothes back on each morning.
The visiting physio was appalled to see his transfer frame was smeared in dried faeces. She complained and a lame attempt to clean it with a dry cloth was made.
This home is not running to a satisfactory standard.

Thank you for your review, We are sorry to hear your experiences with Wood Grange did not meet your expectations. I’m aware you had raised concerns with the home whilst your husband was a resident with us and these were looked into and discussed with you at the time and it was my understanding they had been resolved. However, as offered at the time of your husband’s stay, if you did have any outstanding concerns you would like to raise with us we would welcome the opportunity to look into these and discuss with you further. Please feel free to contact myself or a member of our team via phone 01778 424010 or email: Woodgrange@barchester.com.

Mum had a couple of falls and after a stay in hospital and diagnosis of widespread metastatic cancer she chose not to go home but to be looked after 24/7. Barchester Wood Grange Care Home was my first choice of home, I am employed by the NHS so was aware on a professional level of the care provided
there and the excellent management structure.
We as a family are so grateful for the care Mum received. Every single member of staff is dedicated to their role. The compassion and the actual caring for the residents as individuals shines through. Our Mum actually loved it here and spoke so highly of all the staff. If you are looking for a place for your parents to be cared for we as a family can highly recommend Wood Grange Care Home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.413)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.413) out of 10 for Barchester Wood Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.810 for Barchester Wood Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.81
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.603 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Wood Grange Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.703
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
