My mother was at Avenue House for nearly five years and during that whole time we found the home to be very clean and tidy , very professionally run by an extremely able team who were always very friendly towards residents and family members .
She enjoyed her time there and her standard of care was
excellent. The staff were always caring and thoughtful.
We were impressed by the frequent activities , the activity coordinators are great , and arranged a variety of activities and were very attentive and encouraging to the residents.
Numerous visiting external entertainment was often arranged for residents which my mother enjoyed .
There was always a good variety of food and the kitchen staff always ensured my mother had food that she enjoyed.
Sadly my mother passed away at the beginning of December, and the staff were very caring and sensitive in her final weeks .
We thank the WHOLE team for their support and care during my mother's time there.

After a stay in hospital my uncle became frail and was deemed unfit to go back home and thankfully Avenue House had a room spare so he was discharged there in September 24.He was a private person and took a while to accept having to be washed and changed due to being bedridden and took a while getting
used to the staff and accepting that he was not going home . He liked having his door closed and was not always talkative so the staff respected his privacy and would always call back later to see how he was . He always liked the meals and really liked the desserts and could always hear the tea trolley coming round . Being bedridden he was regularly visited to do puzzles to keep his mind active . His medical needs were well cared for and I was always informed if he was not well and if the doctor needed to visit . Early October 25 his health drastically declined and he peacefully passed away with me and his friend by his side . The family are so grateful for the care they gave him .

Generally good. Management always helpful. Home sometimes feels crowded, especially when a lot of residents are in wheelchairs.
Space is at a premium which limits activities.

Mum has been a resident at Avenue House for over 7 years and has always been treated with respect and dignity. The staff are always friendly, and we are always greeted with a smile. All the staff are very well trained and rewarded for their hard work and achievements. WE are always kept informed of
any problems with mum's health by the head nurse or deputy. The food is always freshly cooked by the kitchen staff, and always a choice of 2 dinners. The home is kept clean, and the residents are always clean and well-dressed. The manager's door is always open if we need to discuss anything.

My nana, has been at Avenue House since 2018 so 7 years. The staff are lovely, and the managers have been there around the same time, so it's nice to see them each time we visit each week. My nana seems happy here and likes it when they do games, parties and have the singers in.

Both of my parents have been cared for here in the home for a few years now.
The care and respect has been excellent since the beginning.
The team are always welcoming and shows a great relationship with them both.
Activities are well run and have engaged them both more than I would have expected.
We are happy that they settled here, and it is a comfort to know they are well cared for.

My lovely mum came to this care home in August 2025.
She was extremely frail and over 100 years old, however she was shown care and kindness from all the staff - from the housekeeping to the nursing team.
We were extremely happy with her care and would recommend this facility to anyone who is looking
for a place for their loved one.

My mum has been a resident at Avenue House since January of this year after moving from another part of the country. The staff are fantastic, always helpful and they make what was a difficult decision (to move mum into care) the absolute right one. The home is modern and clean and even has it's own
little outdoor cinema. Would thoroughly recommend knowing you have piece of mind that your loved one is safe and well cared for.

This is a brief honest review, one overriding piece of advise is, please take the time to ask questions regarding record keeping.
Since becoming a resident within the Avenue Care Home we have seen a massive deterioration in all aspects of my mother's physical wellbeing. We chose this Care Home on the
cleanliness of the building, resident facilities and the 'feeling' of the home. Unfortunately some important aspects have badly let my mother down and us as a family. The advice I would give is, do not get blinded by nice curtains and friendly staff, the most important aspect is that your family member is safe, adequately monitored and treated with dignity, this is not obvious to see.
You will see we are positive concerning some issues, however some fundamental elements let the whole home down and makes it essential for you to ignore the smiles and ask for evidence that your relative is receiving all the parts of the care plan, as they will refer to this being done, please check.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.631)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.631) out of 10 for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.631 for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (128 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.631
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
