We have a few concerns. We buy toothpaste but it doesn’t seem to ever run out. Mum was left in her room due to the lift being out of action, which we completely understand but there was no one around. We rang for help and phoned, no one answered the phone. Finally, someone appeared and we asked if they
could open the door for us to get downstairs. Mum had been left watching tennis on tv which is something mum has never had any interest in. Mum seemed worried that I’d turned the tv over. Every weekend we visit trying to find staff is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
This does explain why every time mum has had a fall it’s been at the weekend. Last year they left mum overnight before ringing for an ambulance and she’d broken her hip.
It’s like things we’ve asked don’t seem to matter.
My sister is concerned if we say anything mum will be kicked out of the home.
But I know mums got dementia but the people who work there don’t seem to either want to know.

The care home is a wonderfully laid out home for residents. Rooms are fabulous and lots of activities. Space to be alone if needed but plenty of social too.
A wonderful little library and beautiful gardens and view outside.
The food is excellent with great quality and choice. Prepared freshly on
site. Drinks are continuously provided.
Very clean environment. Hygiene of residents is also taken care of very well.
The carers and nurses on site look after all in a caring professional way. Friendly but not familiar.
My only criticism is the associated accountancy and owner who clearly care not one jot about you or your resident. They want the money and are the opposite of professional or caring.

A caring and supportive environment is provided with residents being treated more like family members rather than residents.
The team always listen to my concerns regarding my mum’s health and are very knowledgeable and compassionate. I am very reassured as they provide the best level of care possible
and treat her with the dignity and respect she deserves.

Very happy with my father’s first month at the home. He is loving the food and being able now with assistance to shower regularly. There are three lounges two of which are quieter which he prefers. The staff are friendly and visitors are welcome anytime during the day.

Think twice about letting your loved one reside at Avenue House. After reading good reviews my family and I decided to move our mother into Avenue House. During a period of one year, we had to complain about her basic care needs on several occasions. The management and nursing care were virtually non-existent.
Our mother is bedridden and has dementia and we watched her gradually deteriorate before our very eyes. However, after having to raise concerns yet again about the lack of basic care needs, we received out of the blue a notice of Termination from the home outlining that our mother would have to vacate the home within 28 days, our mother at this time was very frail, on a liquid diet and only 5 and a half stone. Obviously, our family was shocked with disbelief at the termination notice. Thankfully our mother now resides in a wonderful care home and already her quality of life has improved immeasurably.

I was visiting from New Zealand. My mum has been in the home since May 2022. I was able to spend two weeks with her. The staff were accommodating, sympathetic, caring and professional. I was hugely impressed with the facilities, with the care, with the staff. I was able to ask questions and these were
answered honestly and with empathy. I return to New Zealand confident my mum is in a good place and will be cared for and looked after.

We are delighted with Avenue House Nursing & Care Home. Staff are caring, respectful and kind to the residents. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming to visitors and the rooms are always clean and fresh. The food is varied and delicious. The laundry service is great. Both care and nursing are excellent.
It's so good to know you can ring at any time and speak to a friendly, helpful member of staff who will answer your query. Well done all of you!

My friend has lived at Avenue House for the past 3 1/2 years. She has been well looked after and safe since she developed dementia and was no longer able to look after herself safely. The staff have been absolutely brilliant. Caring, and sensitive to her needs. She was treated as though one of the family.
It is a very well-run home with an excellent Manager. The staff in the kitchen ensure that there is always a very appetising meal for the residents, whether it is breakfasts, dinner, or sandwiches with lots of choices. The carers make sure that the resident's needs are addressed and would tell me when she needed extra toiletries or money for hairdressing or chiropody or a new pair of slippers or shoes. My friend was happy at the light and airy home. It has a good activities organiser who is enthusiastic and caring. The cleaning staff and laundry staff and maintenance staff all keep the home in good order. I have nothing but praise for all those who care for others at Avenue House.

I am so glad that I came to view Avenue House Nursing & Care Home. I decided immediately that it was the right place for my mother as her medical needs were increasing. The bright and caring atmosphere was apparent from the start. The staff were always professional, calm and showed great care in looking
after the needs of the residents and their families. Dietary needs were met alongside the medical care and we all felt supported. My thanks to all the staff for their compassion and excellent care.

My dad had a short stay at this care home. He rapidly declined after he was put on certain medications to calm him down. He had been in a previous care home for a few months where he went downhill very quickly.
We found the staff to be great at times but short-staffed and not enough specialist nurses.
The carers were lovely and took good care of our dad. By the end of his life we were sat with him for 4 days and we were looked after. But we still felt they were short staffed at times.
Overall we are happy with the care he got, we just felt his medication was all wrong which brought his death on quicker.

Avenue House is an excellent care home. The staff not only care for the residents but their families as well. The only aspect of the home which in my opinion needs improvement is the laundry. My mum has 'lost' several items of clothing and on occasions has been dressed in clothing that is not hers.
In fact, I now take Mum's washing home to overcome this problem.

I can’t recommend this Nursing Home highly enough. My beloved Dad was discharged here from Hospital in May 2021 and he received end-of-life care at Avenue House during his last 6 weeks. The staff, led by a truly outstanding, knowledgeable, and compassionate clinical lead nurse, were competent, understanding,
and caring and took every precaution to ensure he was made as comfortable as possible and the pain management was very good. Care was taken to ensure his wishes were adhered to, even though his condition meant he was not an easy patient at the end. He was treated with respect at all times which was so important to him and us and much appreciated. Communications with the family were good and we were kept informed as his health deteriorated. It was a comfort to know that he was receiving the levels of professional end-of-life care we could not have provided at home. I am so thankful we found this place and thank you so much for everything you did for my Dad.

My mum was a resident at Avenue House from the end of June 2021 to the end of December 2021 when she passed away. The staff at Avenue House gave her superb care and love, and especially so during the last three weeks or so when she was extremely vulnerable and frail. Everyone who cared for mum treated
her with love and respect and a lot of gentleness and care mixed with humour, which she would have appreciated if she were able to respond more! The senior clinical nurse was with mum when she died and for that, my family will always be so very grateful. A last mark of respect and kindness given on our behalf. The chef heated up soup especially for mum at a time when she was eating very little and not at regular mealtimes. Another example of kindness that we appreciated very much. On a more general note, mum's room was clean and warm and looked out onto the garden. Staff were accommodating and helpful at all times. Avenue House is highly recommended by my family.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.631)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.631) out of 10 for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.631 for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (128 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 439 Ratings = 4.631
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avenue House Nursing & Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
