Polebrook Nursing & Residential Home

Very well cared for and received a lot of affection from staff. We felt very happy that she was well looked after - especially the last few weeks of her life. I think the nurses and carers did all they possibly could for her.

My father moved into Polebrook Nursing home in January 2019. The move for someone of 92, was very emotional, but the staff quickly tried to make him feel at home, spending time talking with him and finding out what interests he had. Whilst he wanted to go home, he acknowledged the kind staff and good food. Over the months, his mobility and dementia worsened, his care needs increased and these needs have been fully met. I have already recommended friends to Polebrook.

My mother-in-law was well looked after in her final years.

My mother spent the last few days of her life at Polebrook. Our family are very thankful for the high level of care, compassion and sensitivity that both she and all of the family received whilst she was resident at the home. The home is welcoming, calm and my mum's needs were supported and managed with confidence and skill. As her daughter, I could not have asked for a better space for my mum to be, at this point in her life. Nothing was too much, the staff supported myself and other family members, making sure that we had comfort and privacy, but also, support at what was an intense and painful time. My mum felt safe and peaceful, we as her family felt supported. We will always remember the kindness, care and respect shown to both my mum and ourselves as her family. Thank you so much to the whole team, we felt like we were part of your community, if only for a brief time.

The manager and all the staff were so friendly and they dealt so well with his care needs and my father was so much happier.

Let me start by saying how happy I am with Polebrook nursing home.

My mother-in-law has settled in very well and is happy and healthy. This is in my opinion because of two very important factors. The home itself is set in a beautiful location and the rooms looking onto the garden make it feel like you are at home looking out of your own lounge window. It is very peaceful and relaxing and access to and around the garden is easy with a wheelchair.

Second and very important is the amazing staff that you have working at the home. Each time I arrive at the home I'm meeting happy, smiling faces. I know that at times it can be very hard and stressful yet all the staff take the time to say hello and be friendly. This has made for a happy environment and seeing my mother-in-law smiling back at the members of staff as she would her friends is lovely.

This care home is well managed, clean and welcoming. Thank you to all the staff.

Since her discharge from hospital my mother has been effectively cared for with great kindness and attention to detail at Polebrook. The manager inspires confidence through her highly proactive and directive management of a staff that is consistently attentive and kind. A little refurb of some minor cosmetic details would lighten the interior impression but this is minor compared to the really important aspects which are generally excellent so far in our experience.

I am overall very impressed with the running of the home and all of its staff.

I was really happy with the care and thoughtfulness of the staff at Polebrook during the last few weeks of my uncle's life. They were both assiduous and friendly.

Over the time my Mum in Law was resident here I was mindful the care she was receiving was declining culminating in our decision to find an alternative home. The comparison is stark and confirms our decision to move her even though we were mindful that the move would be stressful, I wish we had moved Mum earlier. I have complained to Polebrook but have had no reply even though they are committed to responding within three weeks leaving me no alternative than to raise my concerns with the CQC, local Clinical Commisioning Group, CMA, Police and the family's legal team. The emphasis at Polebrook is on revenue in my view, not those in their care. Stimulation is minimal (Mum has come alive since leaving), the food is appalling, it is grubby and dingy. No sign of humility or contrition from the management. The gold standard care Mum now receives truly emphasises the failings at Polebrook.

The variety of activities are suitable for those that wish to partake. Polebrook sits in peaceful countryside and when the weather is good residents can sit out in the beautiful garden surrounding the home. My mother enjoys her room but a slight negative I feel is that the interior of the building is looking a little tired and would benefit from a ‘Make Over’. On the whole, we are very happy and feel very comfortable when visiting my mother. It is after all her home and she loves it.

My wife was taken into Polebrook nursing home suffering from advanced Dementia after I found I could not continue caring for her with the care and safety that she needed. The doctor said she should go there six months before because she was so ill. My wife settled in and adapted to the care very well. She was there for almost three years and I visited every day so I had every chance to ensure she was being well looked after and getting the care and attention she so needed. I saw the staff took every care of her ensuring she was always well turned out as I know she would have wanted. The food was always good, varied and plentiful catering for all requirements. My wife ate as well as she could for as long as her illness would allow her and the staff never gave up trying to get her to eat. The illness is very cruel and I knew where we were heading. But through to the end, my wife received love and attention from all the staff, as I did being there every day I was always welcome.

The care given to our dear friend was amazing. He had complex needs and dementia so the care he required was 24hrs and the care he received was the best we could have hoped for. ALL the staff are caring, patient and kind. They go above and beyond for the residents, their families and friends. From the day he arrived to the sad day he passed away we cannot thank the staff enough.
