St. Catherine's Care Home is located in the middle of Horwich near Bolton and is close to shops, amenities, public transport and the M62 motorway link. Middlebrook Shopping Centre is just one mile away.

This purpose built care home provides nursing and social care for the frail elderly and the mentally infirm elderly.

Accommodation at St Catherine's is provided in single occupancy rooms, some of which are spacious enough for sharing.

St. Catherine's provides TV lounges, quiet sitting rooms and a bright conservatory with access to extensive gardens for residents enjoyment. Meals can be served in one of the separate dining rooms, where residents can enjoy the company of others when dining. Meals are based on traditional home cooking using fresh produce, with daily choices being available. Special diets can be catered for.

Visits are made to the home on a regular basis by an experienced hair stylist and a qualified chiropodist. Complementary therapies can be arranged.

Residents benefit from a varied programme of activities that are available.

Mum came to live at St Catherine's last week. She is settling in well and all the staff are friendly and approachable. It's great that when Dad visits that he can join her for lunch if he wants. I'm hoping that Mum will enjoy taking part in the daily activities. We are so pleased it's open for visiting
and we've been welcomed each time we've arrived.

We have now experienced six months of the care provided by St Catherine's Care Home and continue to be impressed with all aspects of the nursing home. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and it is apparent that all staff have a wonderful attitude to the care, support and well-being they give to the
residents. This is much appreciated by my sister and all her family, knowing she is in a safe and caring environment. St Catherine's happily considered her home.

The overall care for my wife is excellent. I am always informed if anything has happened, no matter how small. The staff are always very welcoming to myself and all my family when they visit. I can relax with the knowledge that my mum is being well looked after and treated with dignity and empathy. There are wonderful staff and management in the Emi Unit, and I cannot praise them enough for everything they do for my mum. A very special thank you to one lady for being so very kind to my mum
but have to say many staff members also are amazing and go the extra mile. Staff in the Emi face daily challenges but are always positive, friendly and always happy to help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Mum went to live at St Catherine's in May 2020. We have all been very happy with the care. The care assistants are friendly and very caring. The nurses are very approachable and helpful. They are also quick to identify any problems and let me know immediately. I have experienced some bad care in the
past, but have had no issues or concerns as staff, even admin, are always available to advise or support. I feel I can relax knowing Mum is being cared for by the best.

The staff are very encouraging and attentive. The activity programme is amazing. Residents are encouraged to participate and are valued. Mum's clothes are kept clean and changed regularly. Trips are arranged to local cafes and garden centres. The resident's crafts are made into displays. Meals are well
supported by staff, and the food is good. The nurses work hard and keep us updated if issues. The home is bright, clean and feels welcoming. The photobook in the reception shows the daily activities for relatives. The management always has time for me with any queries.

Gill Johnson

Job Title: Home Manager at St Catherine's Care Home, Bolton Joined: 2010

Gill achieved her nursing qualifications a little later in life; however, this hasn’t stopped her from thriving. She began as a care assistant and, before progressing to Home Manager, she achieved her nursing qualifications. Gill is very proud of receiving a ‘Good’ rating from CQC for St Catherine’s. She loves working with the local community and creating a bond with them. Outside of work, Gill is a lover of arts and crafts. She is full of creativity and loves knitting and sewing. She is a proud grandmother and enjoys spending time with her family where she can too. Words of encouragement from Gill for someone looking for the right care home would be: “Good care needs to be observed. Make sure the home is clean. Look at the residents to see if they’re happy. Look at the website to see if there are activities going on and have a browse at the menus.”
