My wife has been in a care home twice since having Covid19 in January, and the first care home, I think, didn't care if she lived or died, but since she has been in this care home, she has improved 100%. I am just sorry that she wasn't sent here in the first place. My wife loves the staff, who care for her every need, and I know they listen to me if I have any concerns.

My mother has come on so much since moving from the hospital and having a couple of strokes. The care she received is great, and they keep me updated with how my mum is. The carers make my mum laugh and smile daily, which is great to see.

The day my mum came to Farnworth Care Home, I was nervous because of all the bad stories you hear of nursing homes. Absolutely made up. What a beautiful place from the entrance to her room, nothing but nice people. Could not be happier, perfect.

I find staff do not always make you feel welcome, some very nice.
Lack of stimulation for residents.
My friend says there are TVs and Phones in every room, not so.
Personal care could be better.
Diet not very good, soup and sandwich, if you have swallowing problems, chef.
Bar optics empty.
Clothes washed but not ironed.

Garden party coming up. I bet the garden is cleaned up by then.

Previously commented on the staff as they have been brilliant during the Covid pandemic. Without their dedication, my mother wouldn't have survived if living at home. They are always happy to chat about your loved ones and have a smile when greeting you. I could eulogise all day about the staff. Only one negative comment would be regarding the laundry service, laundry service is a nightmare in my humble opinion as clothes not only go astray even with name tags. It's constant having to replace missing items which is a financial burden and most poignantly is upsetting to my mum. Last week's visit my mum didn't a pair of socks to her name. Socks are just one example, had to replace jumpers, cardigans, vests and nightwear.

I feel humbled to read your review regarding the care and compassion shown towards your Mother and I feel so very proud of the team who spend their days knowing that a smile makes a difference to a persons life. It is, however, always a disappointment when we identify a shortfall in the service and I can assure you that I am happy to review our system to try to improve on this.

Overall Experience

Farnworth Care Home continues to provide exceptional care for my mum who has now been a resident on Belmont for almost five years. The strength of the Belmont Unit is the leadership and the staff, their consistency and high standards of genuine care mean that residents are known well and are cared for as family members. The challenges afforded by the coronavirus pandemic have led to high levels of anxiety for family members of care home residents, however this has been eased by the regular communication, the solution focussed approach and the knowledge that my mum is being cared for and loved by a team that knows her well. I could not ask for more from any staff member. My mum has a high level of need and poor cognition and communication but the staff on the unit understand and anticipate her wants and needs and equally importantly they make her happy. I feel very lucky that my mum is able to be cared for at Farnworth Care Home.

The care given at Farnworth Care Home to my Mum has been excellent. The lovely staff have looked after her with compassion and dignity. My Mum loves all the staff and is grateful for a chat if they have time. I have been visiting her again after the lockdown and I always take a lateral flow test and wear PPE before I can enter the home this is always done efficiently. This home is always nice and clean and always smells nice.

The nursing staff were very unsympathetic with us during dads final days. My sister wasn't allowed to say goodbye to dad, because I had already seen him. They even denied dad's request to see my sister. Horrible place, this place is more like a prison.

Inside the care home there is a pleasant atmosphere. All staff, I have come into contact with, are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are kept very clean and have everything needed making the residents comfortable. There are a number of activities available so that residents can be as active and involved as they wish. Having a 'hairdressers' open within the home is excellent!

The carers who I have dealt with, I feel have been excellent,t and if inspected would be outstanding. I feel they have a really tough job and in the circumstances, I am very happy with them. I do feel office management is poor, however. I did request a call back from the regional office manager and as of yet... I have not received one, nor have I received one from the office management team at Farnworth regarding my issue at the time. I also feel that poor phone connections have been an issue, again, on no account do I put the blame at the door of the carers, this falls on the office management department. To only have two phones on a floor and one that cannot reach certain rooms and internet providers not having previously sorted this issue I feel is poor. Again, this does not reflect the poor carers who run from pillar to post accommodating and bringing relatives to the phones to help it lies with the office management team.

Reply from Sarah Willitts, Regional Director at Farnworth Care Home

Thank you for your review and particularly your praise of the care staff. I hope that following on from our conversation we have resolved the issue. I have also chased the issue with telephones, and hopefully, will have a positive resolution soon. Thank you for giving your feedback and for your support of the staff.

The home provides a good standard of support to my mum but they have needed additional support in covid which I don't believe they received. Visits can only be facilitated Monday-Friday between 9-5 which makes it impossible for working relatives. Staff are friendly, upbeat, caring and compassionate but they need more of them!

Review from Christine M (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 4 April 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My stepmother was moved to Farnworth Care Home in January 2020 when my Father was taken into hospital. Her situation at their home was just intolerable. She spent 24 hours a day in a dark bedroom, often in a wet bed, carers working under pressure often failed to arrive, my Dad was blind to my step mother's needs, I had tried over the previous 2 years to get them both to move into a Care Home, but there had been a flat refusal from both. Dad died therefore my stepmother stayed at Farnworth and all I can say is she has thrived. Her underlying diagnosis means she will deteriorate and develop increasing problems as the weeks go by but the wonderful staff at Farnworth Care Home have managed to make life bearable for her, they care, they support, they communicate, they meet the day to day challenges without complaint. I live at the opposite end of the country, and Covid-19 put a stop to any ideas I had of visiting regularly. I am so grateful for the care my stepmother receives, thank you.

After qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse in 2007, I have gained over 15 years of experience working in the private care sector, predominantly with older adults. This area is especially important to me as I have experienced first-hand the negative side of caring for a loved one. I vowed to my profession that I would try my very hardest to ensure that nobody within my care would experience what I experienced. This is the ethos that I use each and every day.
