My husband was very well looked after by all the staff. All his needs were catered for and in his end of life care the kindness and compassion of the staff not only to my husband but also to his family was excellent. We were offered food and drinks to see us through our very sad few days. The care in
that time for my husband was really outstanding, not a thing was to much trouble for them.
Reply from Andrea Gamble, Regional Director at Farnworth Care HomeThank you for taking the time to recognise the staff at Farnworth particularly at such a sad time for you and your family. it was a pleasure and a privilege for the staff to have known your husband and cared for him in his final days.

I liked to join in with all the festivity over the Christmas period. There were Christmas carols from local schools, Christmas parties with lots of lovely food and beers. I sat with the other residents and the company was good. Families are always made welcome. All the staff are my friends and they
are lovely.

I cannot praise this care home enough. From six weeks respite, with a view to being permanent, a buddy made my dad feel at home on a one-to-one basis and settled him in and I lost my bet! Dad has a lovely new life, 24-hour care, a social life, it's all good and I am delighted with the outcome. I take
him out for fresh air locally as our quality time together is very precious. Keep up the good work everybody.

We feel confident that our mother is safe and cared for, we have built a relationship with staff. From day one the staff knew she was arriving and greeted her by name, these little things go a long way. The home is clean and modern, the food fantastic, the staff are always on the go, but always have
time to stop to help or answer any questions we have. Thank you Farnworth Care Home.

Although my Uncle was only there a few days before he was taken to hospital, they took great care of him and the staff were very friendly and helpful to us. He settled in really quickly and enjoyed the food while he was there.
I would like to thank everyone who looked after him. You provide excellent
service and the facilities are brilliant.
Many Thanks.

I'd like to thank all of the staff at Farnworth Care Home especially on the Belmont Unit for making the extra effort to make Christmas special for my mum. We've had lots of laughter, Mum has really flourished with taking part in some of the organised activities - she loved the donkey visit and in particular
the carol service over at St Gregory's which was so well attended and really enjoyable.

My grandma spent a short few months in the care of the wonderful nurses and staff at Farnworth Care Home. She had cancer and wasn't strong enough to stay in her own home, she received the best care and treatment I have ever seen. She wanted her final days to be spent at the hospice but there wasn't
any beds.
All I can say is she herself was more than happy with the care and service she had and then when she was in those final days she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. We couldn't of asked for a better place for her to be at her time of passing.
There aren't enough words for myself or my family to use to say how much we appreciate the kind way she was treated.
The staff here came across like they do the job they do because they are passionate about caring and not because they want a wage.

They have improved their response times to personal alarms. Some of the poor carers have been weeded out. Response times of the entry door is poor. The ambulance staff had to wait an excessive amount of time to access the building 30th of March in the evening.

My mum was admitted to Farnworth Care Home after being in Salford Royal for 4 weeks after suffering a stroke. She also had Alzheimer's so things really weren't good. The care she was given was second to none, nothing was ever too much trouble, every member of staff who looked after her, treated her
like they would their own family. They were amazing with my mum and with us too. Sadly, our mum died, but the nurses who cared for her in her last days were absolutely wonderful and when we couldn't be there, we knew she was being looked after in the best possible way.
Farnworth Care Home is a remarkable place, with the most amazing staff I have ever come across.

My mum is in the care home and they look after her to our satisfaction, so I can't understand the report in the local news, they must have gone round the home picking every loose hair, dust etc. My family and myself are happy with her wellbeing.

My father-in-law was resident at Farnworth care home for nursing care. From the moment he was admitted he was treated with dignity, kindness and care of an extremely high standard. Dad was a very private and proud man, he was kept immaculately clean, well-dressed and was encouraged to eat and drink
in the most wonderful way. We witnessed a bedridden resident encouraged to walk with a Zimmer frame and then unaided which was fantastic to see. His room was furnished to a high standard, we were encouraged to make it his home, we were told “it’s his home now so bring in whatever you think he would like”. The staff were warm and welcoming to our family, nothing was too much trouble and they became his, and our, friends. Thank you for all you did for our dad, I’m sorry it’s been 5 months since I’ve posted this review. We did write and email when he passed away but I felt this “public” review may help other families pondering the difficult decision in choosing where to place their loved ones.

My Mum was looked after for nearly three years by the staff of the Beaumount nursing Unit at Farnworth Care Home, Mum was totally dependent on the staff and could not verbally express herself. She was well cared for with the staff respecting her dignity. Mum was on a very soft diet but her food always
looked appetizing and smelt good. Her skin integrity was maintained. She was always dressed in matching clothes and her cleanliness was maintained. The staff tried to give the residents treats in Mum's case it was homemade chocolate mouse as she was very limited in what she could do or eat. The turnover of staff is very low and the trained nurses had not changed throughout her stay. The nursing staff kept the family well informed about Mum's care.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.828)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.828) out of 10 for Farnworth Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.828 for Farnworth Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (518 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 603 Ratings = 4.828
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Farnworth Care Home is based on 51 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 51 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

After qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse in 2007, I have gained over 15 years of experience working in the private care sector, predominantly with older adults. This area is especially important to me as I have experienced first-hand the negative side of caring for a loved one. I vowed to my profession that I would try my very hardest to ensure that nobody within my care would experience what I experienced. This is the ethos that I use each and every day.
