As a family we were very worried and nervous about my grandma having to go into nursing care, everybody knows that nursing homes get a bad rep but wow, what a nice surprise and huge relief! The care staff have been wonderful, always really welcoming. The nurses on Grandma's unit go above and beyond, we can't thank the staff on summer unit enough. Grandma has settled really well. Thank you to Julie, the home manager, for meeting with our family to put all of our worries to bed and being so welcoming and understanding. We appreciate how above and beyond you went for us! It is truly terrifying putting a loved one in care for the first time and we couldn't be happier knowing how well cared for she is. The place is clean, bright and homely. My grandma can be a stern woman so seeing her with a smile and saying wonderful things about the staff is amazing! Thanks everyone so much, I enjoy my weekly visits. Keep up the great work!

The care my father has received is practically non existent due to severe lack of staff. He has pressed the buzzer on numerous occasions for help going to the toilet and has wet himself so many times in just over a week. I have had to help him myself when visiting and so has my mother. The rooms are basic with no decent facilities and not even a tv. Considering we are paying £1700 per WEEK, this is just not good enough. Sadly I don't think my father has long left and I will be making a serious complaint in the future as frankly the care he is receiving, or lack of, is disgusting.

Reply from Management Team, at Bright Meadows Care Home
We are very sorry to read about your father’s experience and the distress this has caused both him and your family. What you have described is deeply concerning and certainly not the standard of care we aim to provide.

We understand how upsetting it must have been to witness your father waiting...

My friend is upset at the lack of activities offered by the home.
There appears to be no residents meetings and no minibus available either. Both of which are in your advertising.

You may want to edit your email inviting me to review Bright Meadows. Do you realise it says "we home" instead of " we hope"

Everyone has a smile on their face and a warm greeting as soon as you entre from reception through to the lounge which is were I normally visit. I have a laugh and a joke with the other residents who are there as well as the staff. The staff make sure everyone is involved with any ativities they do and no one is left out. I have seen staff mend a walking frame to just holding someone's hand, I think this makes all the difference to the residents and me a visitor.

Due to various medical conditions my husband was allocated a place at Bright Meadows Care Home, on discharge from hospital, and I was very distraught at the idea, also we have been married 63 years and always looked after each other. He has been resident now for 6 weeks and settling in. I am very impressed with the relaxed atmosphere (and only strict rule of no visiting during mealtimes) the staff are very pleasant and are professional, they always answer any questions I have, and keep me informed of everything, so I dont get worried now, I can visit every day, we can also sit in the gardens.

Based on a weekly visit observation, overall I would say that the staff at the care home all seem to be caring and diligent, although it sometimes appears that they are stretched and possibly under resourced to cope with the ongoing demands and requirements of the residents. My mum only has good things to say about the staff, but she isn't quite as complimentary about the choice of food on the menu.

There is a lack of care for the residents; they are not cared for with respect or regard for their dignity. My dad is often dirty and unshaven. He has lost a lot of weight and as a result he is supposed to be individually supervised at mealtimes, but the staff don't do it. The management keeps promising to resolve the issues, but it doesn't improve. There are some excellent staff members, particularly the nurses in charge of the unit.

Visited mum on Autumn Berry, Mum is settled and always looks well: mum loves the food, her room is always clean which is brilliant as I am really fussy. The whole place is very welcoming, clean and knowledgeable. I'm happy so far, just wish there was more to do during the day as mum is very active still.

Whilst I understand that the residents can at time be challanging. The overall experience is good. The staff seem to care about the residents, but there have been some issues with laundry and the cleanliness of her room. I do understand she can be quite difficult at times but I dont want to visit and spend quality time cleaning & tidying her room. I have passed these issues with the senior in charge and they take on board my concerns and make every effort to keep on top of things.
As with all things there is room for improvment.
But I do understand the difficulty the staff face daily.

And my wife seems settled.

My wife has been a resident at Bright Meadows Care Home for 21 months. The home is always spotlessly clean and well maintained. Her care is exceptional by dedicated carers. Every member of management, carers, nursing etc. are very friendly and thoughtful. I'd like to mention the area manager, I asked for a special request and he delivered within the week. My wife and myself benefitted from this show of kindness. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bright Meadows for your loved ones.

Carers amazing. Food could be improved. Chair in the lounge (winter) poorly maintained, stained, smelly at times, cushions missing. My mother came into this care home January '25. The care she recieves is brilliant. My mum is struggling with anxiety she does not like the fact that other residents are getting into her room. She has been told to lock her room door but she forgets sometimes due to dementia. She does not feel safe she has told us and its is one reason why she does not want to leave her room as she feels her possesions will be stolen. As a family we dont like people going into her room either. Staff just say lock the door.

Reply from Julie Valentine, Home Manager at Bright Meadows Care Home

Thankyou for 5 stars all round. I am pleased that we held a meeting and decided that it was in your mums best interest to move units. Her anxiety has lessened and she is thriving on her new unit.
