Entrance hall clean and not smelling institutional. Staff friendly, helpful and kind. Food unimaginative, unvaried with overcooked vegetables and very small helpings. Salads and sandwiches OK. Larger rooms nice but an expensive extra.

I am very pleased with Recency Care Home and how they care for my husband who has Lewy Body with dementia.
They always keep him clean and tidy and spend a lot of time talking to him and spending some time with him which he enjoys.

I highly recommend Recency Care Home.

My sister has been in the home 17 months and the care and attention have been very good. The carers are so kind and friendly and always try their best to make their stay as nice and happy as possible, and when my sister has not been very well the care has been wonderful. All the staff I have found to be fantastic.

Staff care for the resident is excellent. Genuine care and concern shown and looking to ensure as good a quality of life as possible, including reviewing appropriate medication. The standard of the room is only adequate bearing in mind the level of changes. Improvement could and should be made.

My mother has nursing care and the team of nursing staff are brilliant. All the carers know my Mum really well as they have worked there for a long time. It is very rare to see any agency staff. In fact, all the staff from management downwards are excellent and dedicated to making sure the residents receive the best care possible. My only criticism would be the food as I feel there is definitely room for improvement.

All the staff are very caring and friendly to the residents and their families and will go above and beyond their duties to ensure all are happy. The home itself is clean and brightly decorated. I have not noticed the smell that is associated with care homes.

The activities are good and day trips out are arranged. My aunt enjoyed going out for a meal. I can't comment on the food as my aunt didn't eat a lot, she did remark she didn't like the bread.

The activities held a Royal Wedding garden party which was a sounding success. The garden and lounges were decorated beautifully. The residents had made decorations to adorn the room. Afternoon tea was served to residents in the garden under the gazebo. Everyone wore decorated hats or tiaras. All in all, very well organised.

Regency Care Home have been very helpful and accommodating in the placement of my father.

The staff are all friendly and professional and approachable. My father says this home is much better than his previous home. He is encouraged to join in the activities, he really enjoyed the Valentine's Day concert. I feel all my father's needs are met at Regency Care Home. Many thanks to all concerned.

I have been in the nursing unit at Regency for six months now. I have found the staff friendly, caring and supportive. They helped me enormously to cope with the upset of having to sell my home and were happy to listen while I showed them photographs and shared my memories.

At the weekend, I am taken by a member of staff to the local Catholic Church. This means a lot to me and has allowed me to become part of the local parish community. The staff here are very welcoming to my family and visitors who all agree that I am more confident, relaxed and happier now than I was prior to moving in here.

Living at Regency care home has certainly given me a new lease on life and my family and I are extremely grateful to everyone here for the wonderful care they provide.

Sometimes, seemingly simple things are overlooked. My mother has no mobility and therefore needs items to be used in arms reach.

When mother is in bed, often her tissues are on the other side of the room. Used tissues are left lying on the floor, intercall switch is not within reach. The jug of fruit juice often does not have a cup to drink from.

My mum came to Regency yesterday, after a long journey from Kent. The staff were all so welcoming. The deputy manager stayed late to ensure she met mum and got her settled. The room has been made up beautifully. The staff came and introduced themselves but also didn't push mum as she has only just arrived. The deputy manager has been brilliant in the transition. Helpful and caring.

My mother was at the end of her life and was in the Regency for 10 days before she passed away. She was treated with respect and dignity from all the wonderful staff. She was spotlessly clean every day and cared for so wonderfully. The staff were so kind to her and I am so pleased that her last days were spent in the Regency. Thank you so much.

Overall Experience

My mother, aged 91 years, has lived for almost three years within the care of the Regency Care Home. The responsibility of care largely rests with the permanent staff under the new, and current, manager. They are remarkable people with genuine commitment who have clearly embraced the new and revised codes of care, responsibility and conduct introduced within the last year. Not all things at the Regency are perfect, including staff not always having enough time for their allotted duties, detailed training of agency staff brought in when required, labelled laundry items going missing. But at the core of the care home is a big heart displaying North of England warmth. My mother regards the carers as her friends, and this is testament to their effectiveness and value, particularly in a modern world that seems increasingly distant and dismissive to the aged and vulnerable. Well done to all and keep up the good work!

Nichola
Nichola Job Title:Home Manager at Regency Care Home, BuryJoined: 2016

“My passion is end-of-life care and ensuring that residents are advocated for and families experience support at the worst time.”

Nichola has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for 17 years and has been with Regency for four years. Nichola comes from a family of nurses and believes this was her calling in life.

Why did you decide to join Lovett Care?

Having suffered bereavements myself, it emphasised my need to care for others. I wanted to be a positive change agent, ensuring the delivery of meaningful care and treatment to a high standard.

Also, I was really impressed by the care and nursing team at Regency as they strive to deliver person-centred care to the highest achievable standard. I liked how the home is friendly, engaging and has a homely atmosphere.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
As the Registered Manager, I enjoy having the opportunity to make meaningful changes to the service that directly affect the health optimisation of the residents in my care. Also, I like how nothing is too much for the care team, and they always go above and beyond their duties to ensure the residents' lives are enriched.

My passion is end-of-life care and ensuring that residents are advocated for and families experience support at the worst time.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?

I have two teenage children and my little dog Bella, so I enjoy spending time with family and going on trips away. I am also passionate about fundraising for charities.

Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?

In 2018, I was awarded the FSHC National Deputy Manager Award from 235 applicants. Also, in 2019, the Chief Nursing Officer visited Regency and commended the service we provide.

Recently, in 2020, the home and I were awarded 'The High Sheriff Special Recognition Award' for outstanding care delivered and innovation shown throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

What are your Qualifications?
I worked as a hospital auxiliary for the first part of my career. Then I went on to complete my nurse training. I worked as a registered mental health nurse across a variety of hospital settings before working in the private sector in 2015.

In 2016, I took the role of Deputy Home Manager at Regency. After a short period, I became the registered Home Manager.

What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?

If you are looking to place a loved one in care, I would advise anyone to read the CQC inspection report and look around all available facilities to ensure the choice you make is the right one for you and your family.
