Regency Care Home is conveniently situated in Whitefield, between central Manchester and Bury, and is within easy reach of local shops and other amenities including public transport.

The home provides residential care for people who need support with everyday activities such as washing, dressing or eating, as well as keeping on top of taking regular medications. Additionally, the service offers specialist residential care for people who are living with dementia or a mental health condition.

Nursing care is also available at the home for people who live with more complex medical needs.

Short-term respite care is also offered at the home to give family or friends a well-earned break.

Upon arrival, residents are supported by the staff to develop a personalised care plan using an electronic comprehensive integrated Care Planning system. This not only records information around an individual’s care needs but includes interests, hobbies and dietary preferences also. This system gives everyone involved in residents’ care instant access to care information and preferences from their individual care plan to provide responsive and person-centred care.
They use an electronic medication system for clear and accurate and safe administration of medications and they also assist residents, who are able to and chose to look after their own medications.

Traditional home cooking using fresh produce is offered with choices being available. Special diets can be catered for.

With a dedicated activities coordinator in place, you will be rest assured that there will always be meaningful activities taking place in and out of the home for residents to enjoy.

My mum has been in this care home for year now. I could not want for a better place to care for her. While there is always room for improvement, that improvement would take it from is already 4 stars.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.898) out of 10 for Regency Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.898 for Regency Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (260 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 285 Ratings = 4.898
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Regency Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Nichola Birkett

Job Title: Home Manager at Regency Care Home, Bury Joined: 2016

“My passion is end of life care and ensuring that residents are advocated for and families experience support at the worst time.”

Nichola has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for 17 years and has been with Regency for four years. Nichola comes from a family of nurses and believes this was her calling in life.

Why did you decide to join Lovett Care
Having suffered bereavements myself, it emphasised my need to want to care for others. I wanted to be a positive change agent ensuring the delivery of meaningful care and treatment to a high standard.
Also, I was really impressed by the care and nursing team at Regency as they strive to deliver person-centred care to the highest achievable standard. I liked how the home is friendly, engaging and has a homely atmosphere.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
As the Registered Manager, I enjoy having the opportunity to make meaningful changes to the service that directly affects the health optimisation of the residents in my care. Also, I like how nothing is too much for the care team and they always go above and beyond their duties to ensure the residents lives are enriched.
My passion is end of life care and ensuring that residents are advocated for and families experience support at the worst time.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
I have two teenage children and my little dog Bella, so I enjoy spending time with family and going on trips away. I am also passionate about fundraising for charities.

Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
In 2018, I was awarded the FSHC National Deputy Manager Award from 235 applicants. Also, in 2019, the Chief Nursing Officer visited Regency and commended the service we provide.

Recently, in 2020 myself and the home was awarded 'The High Sheriff Special Recognition Award' for outstanding care delivered and innovation shown throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

What are your Qualifications?
I worked as a hospital auxiliary for the first part of my career. Then I went on to complete my nurse training. I worked a registered mental health nurse across a variety of hospital settings, before working the private sector in 2015.
In 2016, I took the role of Deputy Home Manager at Regency. After a short period, I became the registered Home Manager.

What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
If you are looking to place a loved one in care, I would advise anyone to read the CQC inspection report and look around all available facilities to ensure the choice you make is the right one for you and your family.
