Woodend offers a welcoming atmosphere to residents who require residential, nursing or dementia care. For those who need short term respite care the home is also an ideal choice.

On sunny days, residents can benefit from visiting the large landscaped garden, or relax on the patio area to enjoy the warm weather. Each private bedroom boasts under-floor heating, profiling beds and a 24-hour call system which help residents to live as independently as possible in a safe environment. New large 'Super Suite' rooms boast lovely aspect views out over the gardens to the front of the home and include a wet room and space to accommodate items of your choice.

The home works hard to cater for any special dietary requirements and seeks regular feedback on mealtime options to ensure everyone enjoys the food offered.

Regular reminiscence groups are organised for residents to help them live well with dementia and engage residents with activities. Gentle exercise is encouraged in the form of armchair aerobics to stimulate residents and keep people active.

My mum moved to Woodend a couple of weeks ago. She has settled well has been much more active and busy with the activities provided at Woodend. She appears more positive since her move there

I visited for the alzheimers afternoon tea, she was my neighbour- she is very happy here. We sat in the lovely garden. She loves being outside.

Woodend Care Home is a very clean and nice home. In a lovely peaceful location and nice gardens. The staff are very caring and can't do enough for the residents. I would say don't hesitate in bringing your loved one to this home.

On visiting my mum she is always happy the staff are always lovely with her and her care and attention is 100%. Three members of staff in particular are very loyal and caring to her.

My wife has been suffering from dementia for the last three years, but has deteriorated recently. She became a resident here because we could no longer care for her properly at home. I have been very reassured with the care she is receiving, and I feel that she will be well looked after here. This makes
me feel comfortable.
The staff and management are first class, and always available to answer any queries as requests.

This is my first experience of a carehome facility and although it took time getting used to how the facility operates, it took my breath away at the patience and kindness of the whole staff/team. Very reassuring to know my dad is being cared for.

Woodend Care Home has a lovely appearance from the outside, well taken care of. Inside is very welcoming and clean, painted well, and corridors are clean and maintained. Bedrooms look cosy too and staff are all very pleasant.

My mum is a resident in Woodend Care Home, she receives the best of care there.
My dad was also a resident there until his recent death. He also received the best care. He was treated with dignity at the end of his life and his family were also supported by the staff.

I have lived in Woodend Care Home since November 2021 and my experience of it is very favourable. The home has excellent accommodation and facilities. It provides activities for residents such as fundraising fashion show which was very successful. The real strength of the care home is its very caring
staff. This is true of the staff who work in administration, the provision of meals and the provision of personal care for residents. The warm and friendly atmosphere is apparent to visitors to the home also.

The home is excellent and my wife often says how much she enjoys staying here.
My only complaint is the occasional lack of car parking places.

This is our first visit and from the onset we were treated very well indeed. The room we visited is very comfortably spotlessly clean and bright and airy.
The lady we were visiting was celebrating her Birthday and we were invited into the lounge for afternoon tea. A lovely cake complete with candles
was brought in and staff and all residents joined in to sing Happy Birthday. I understand that the lady we were visiting had been taken out to a garden centre which she thoroughly enjoyed. We know she is safe.

The last 2 years has seen a huge improvement mainly staff. Staff seem much happier and contented. The new management and medical staff have improved the care home. Food choice is still quite repetitive and requests are not always completed. Staff are very attentive and treat Mum with dignity and show
true care for her. Small downside is items of clothing have gone missing/lost.
Also, reception on entry could be more welcoming i.e. small hello etc.

Despite a change of key personnel on the dementia unit during the period, a high standard of care has been maintained. My wife appears very comfortable.

The home is well-run and excellent conditions.
Very modern decor.
Have to use quite a lot of agency staff who are caring but don't know the patients.
Downside is the enormous cost.

I couldn't wish for a better home for Mum. She is so well cared for by the amazing team, and seems so settled and happy. Food is brilliant, always a choice and carers encourage and support everyone with their meals. Lots of activities if the residents want to take part. Rooms are lovely and kept super

My mother moved in here ten months ago and is very settled there now - it has a very homely feel. The staff are lovely and the food is good. Each week there is entertainment from bingo to karaoke, live singers and more and there are activities organised for most mornings. Visitors are welcome at any
time during the day and evening. Would definitely recommend Woodend to anyone looking for a lovely caring environment for their elderly loved ones.

Jane Abdoh

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2023

I’m Jane and I joined Woodend as Home Manager in June 2023.


I became a nurse because I wanted to look after people. I qualified in 1978 and have worked in the NHS and the private sector. I also worked overseas in Abu Dhabi for 10 years.


Throughout my career I have always been passionate about care of the elderly, which is the reason I joined the care sector 25 years ago. Care of the elderly is complex - some have many physical needs or may be living with dementia. The work is so rewarding though, and residents have such wonderful tales to tell. Part of my role is also to support their loved ones, who also become part of our family.


Outside of work, I have three children and four grandchildren. Family is very important to me, and they all know how much I love my job. I have lots of interests, including gardening, reading, travel and going to theatre.

I’m a Clinical Deputy Manager at Woodend, having joined as a Registered General Nurse, before advancing to Unit Manager. I qualified as a nurse in 2024 and previously worked with the NHS as an Endoscopy Nurse. My true passion lies in elderly care and in June 2024, I took on my current leadership role, bringing my expertise and dedication to the team.


Outside of work, I’m a proud mother to a wonderful daughter and I have a close-knit family, including four siblings and cherished nephews and nieces. In my spare time, I love traveling, watching sports —particularly football — and staying active through walking and yoga.

Job Title: Financial Administrator

I was a catering manager in a 120-bedded home in Warrington but went back to college and received all my NVQ administration 1,2,3, and Management level 4.


I then worked at a care home as an administrator. After 12 months I was promoted to non-clinical Deputy Manager, which I did for two years. After some consideration in where my role was going, I decided to go back to a financial administrator role and applied to work at Woodend.


I am a very caring person and I love to be able to help others and see their reaction when I can do this.


Outside of work I am married with one son who is 24 and at university. I still love to cook and bake, which I do often and treat the staff here at Woodend. I like to swim and walk where and when I can. I always love to push myself and learn new things.

I have spent many years in Health and Social Care, specialising in older people with dementia. I also taught adults and children with learning difficulties/disabilities/ complex health problems and mental health issues.


I love being able to make a difference to the lives of individuals and do my best to give them the best quality of life possible.


I live relatively near Woodend but have lived very close to it in the past and am very active in community work in the area. I enjoy walking , rambling and cycling, singing, cooking, embroidery - just not enough time for everything! I am also president of a local Rotary Club and undertake voluntary work with The Homeless and Older People. I also enjoy visiting places and going to the theatre.

I began my career at Woodend in 2007 as a Hotel Service Assistant, where I developed a strong foundation in hospitality. In 2012, I transitioned to the kitchen as a Kitchen Assistant and steadily progressed to the role of Cook. During this time, I pursued my NVQ qualifications to become a fully qualified chef. After completing my Level 3 NVQ in Senior Chef training in 2018, I was promoted to Chef Manager, a position I have held ever since, overseeing kitchen operations with dedication and expertise.


Outside of work, I maintain an active lifestyle by regularly attending the gym and running. I also enjoy hiking and have completed the UK’s Three Peaks—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdonia—alongside colleagues from Woodend, fostering teamwork and camaraderie beyond the workplace.

I was self-employed for several years before moving to Spain in 2006. I returned to the UK in 2011 and joined Woodend.


I love the connection I have with the residents; they make me laugh, they make me cry, but I honestly could not think of a better work environment. I am a friendly person with a good sense of humour, and I feel the residents know this and they make coming to work a pleasure for me.


I live locally and I’m married with two children and six grandchildren. We have a caravan in Anglesey which we go to whenever we can, and we love going for lovely coastal walks. I also enjoy holidays abroad, especially Greece.
