Woodend offers a welcoming atmosphere to residents who require residential, nursing or dementia care. For those who need short term respite care the home is also an ideal choice.

On sunny days, residents can benefit from visiting the large landscaped garden, or relax on the patio area to enjoy the warm weather. Each private bedroom boasts under-floor heating, profiling beds and a 24-hour call system which help residents to live as independently as possible in a safe environment. New large 'Super Suite' rooms boast lovely aspect views out over the gardens to the front of the home and include a wet room and space to accommodate items of your choice.

The home works hard to cater for any special dietary requirements and seeks regular feedback on mealtime options to ensure everyone enjoys the food offered.

Regular reminiscence groups are organised for residents to help them live well with dementia and engage residents with activities. Gentle exercise is encouraged in the form of armchair aerobics to stimulate residents and keep people active.

For more information about life in the home, please contact the team.

Our lovely dad moved into Woodend in May 2019 following 3 months in hospital where he was extremely poorly. We thought his stay at Woodend would be short as he was so frail. After a short time, Dad was up and about cracking jokes and making friends. Family visited daily until Covid hit then, like many,
his 'family' were the care team at Woodend. They were all brilliant, putting our minds at rest. Dad continued to remain well until a few months ago, he slowly started to decline. The team at Woodend have treated him with so much love, dignity and respect, they followed Dad's wishes not to go into hospital and to be cared for at Woodend. Mum visited Dad and she too was added to the Woodend 'family' which gave her so much strength. During his final days family visited continually and we were supported so well. We stayed over for three nights and again the staff were amazing. Sadly, Dad passed away this week. We cannot fault the care and attention Dad received both in life and beyond. Thank you.

This was the first time I was able to see my nan properly in person since the pandemic with my little boy. The staff were so welcoming to have me visit again, which was lovely. The care has always been exceptional and you can tell the staff really do care. The floor had been decorated and updated which
has made a huge improvement. My nan looked as cared for and wonderful as she always has been.
Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at Woodend Care HomeThank you for your kind words. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your nan in our care. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care and we are looking forward to seeing you and your little boy again soon.

As this was Dad's first time in respite care (two weeks), it was a new experience for all of us.
We needn't have worried - from the minute we stepped through the door, we were all made to feel welcome. The house manager and all the team are friendly, professional, compassionate and kind. My dad absolutely
loved his stay! He said it felt like a holiday with friends! This, to me, sums up Woodend!
Such a lovely experience, thank you.

A new resident who was transferred from a previous care home. The whole family are very pleased with the high-quality care, which enabled the resident to settle down quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. As the resident's wife, I can also settle down at home knowing the resident is being well looked
after.

The care at Woodend Care Home is excellent, staff go above and beyond to make Mum feel spiritually lifted.
The activities are first-class and inclusive to all.
The recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations were incredible.
Mum had her hair washed and blow waved that morning, nails were painted and she
was dressed in clothes that had the Jubilee colours on, she looked so happy when we arrived.
Everywhere was decorated beautifully and party hats for all.
A great selection of food, drinks and music. The day was very well organised.
The gardens are absolutely beautiful which is where we celebrated first before going inside for a sing-along, love filled the lounge with everyone involved enjoying themselves.
Cakes, teas and coffee were served to all.
The activity leaders and staff are incredible and all went above and beyond to make this day a very special one.
Thank you for such a memorable day.

My father-in-law has dementia and my mother-in-law is very frail. The kindness shown to both is fantastic. The care home is undergoing a major refurbishment which is almost complete - every room, ensuite, lounges and hallway look fantastic. All furniture is new too - so smart and appealing. The small
gardens are lovely too. All the staff are very attentive, caring and welcoming. Admin is also very efficient. All in all, I cannot fault it.

My mother was no longer safe to live in her own home even with a lot of support. Finding the right 24-hour care setting for her involved a good deal of research because the decision needed to be right the first time as routine and familiarity mattered given Mum’s advancing dementia. Thanks to the experience
and kindness of the team at Woodend the transition to living in a care home was better than I would have ever dared to hope. She settled in really well.
I would like to thank everyone who works on the Stamford Unit for the compassionate care they have given my mum, especially recently after a stay in hospital upset Mum’s equilibrium leaving her anxious and upset. Special thanks to the nurse in charge of the unit who leads a team of wonderful people who make a real difference to the quality of my mum’s life and give me peace of mind.
Woodend is well-run and found in a lovely leafy setting but it’s the people that work there that really make it a good place to be.

I have wanted to see my friend for many months, due to the current situation this has not been possible. The staff have kept me updated on a regular basis and are a complete joy to speak to. Nothing is too much trouble when relaying messages and updates. My friend speaks so highly of the staff and how
well they have coped under very trying circumstances. The food is spot on and when I have visited previously have always been included at mealtimes, and at the very least always offered a drink and snack. They really do include everyone and make, not only the resident but visitors alike feel part of the family. I cannot recommend the staff and home highly enough.

I’d like to thank everyone at the Tatton unit for looking after my Mum so well. When she came to Woodend straight from hospital, we were naturally anxious, especially as due to lockdown restrictions, we hadn’t even had a chance to see the place, however, my mum is happy. She can be challenging, but,
only ever has nice things to say about the unit and her caters - believe me, if she was not happy, we’d hear about it.

My wife has been a resident at Woodend for three years now and I feel that she has been kept safe and has been looked after in a caring and friendly manner. During the very trying times of the last 12 months, I have been kept well informed about the developments of the situations at the home, regarding
the health of staff and residents and also the efforts made to ensure visits could be made, when possible. Now that staff and residents have had the first vaccination, I am hopeful that things will improve for everyone, although it may be 12 or so weeks and the second vaccination before we can start thinking about getting somewhere close to the old normal. I would like to thank the manager and all of his staff for all their efforts to keep my loved one safe.

Clothes go missing even after putting names on, her general dressing still not sorted although this is difficult. Her showering and bathing more should

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.631)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.631) out of 10 for Woodend Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.631 for Woodend Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (355 Excellents x 5) + (143 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 521 Ratings = 4.631
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodend Care Home is based on 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8, which has been reached with 43 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I’m Jane and I joined Woodend as Home Manager in June 2023.

I became a nurse because I wanted to look after people. I qualified in 1978 and have worked in the NHS and the private sector. I also worked overseas in Abu Dhabi for 10 years.

Throughout my career I have always been passionate about care of the elderly, which is the reason I joined the care sector 25 years ago. Care of the elderly is complex - some have many physical needs or may be living with dementia. The work is so rewarding though, and residents have such wonderful tales to tell. Part of my role is also to support their loved ones, who also become part of our family.

Outside of work, I have three children and four grandchildren. Family is very important to me, and they all know how much I love my job. I have lots of interests, including gardening, reading, travel and going to theatre.

Outside of work, I’m a proud mother to a wonderful daughter and I have a close-knit family, including four siblings and cherished nephews and nieces. In my spare time, I love traveling, watching sports —particularly football — and staying active through walking and yoga.

Job Title: Financial Administrator Joined: 2022

I was a catering manager in a 120-bedded home in Warrington but went back to college and received all my NVQ administration 1,2,3, and Management level 4.

I then worked at a care home as an administrator. After 12 months I was promoted to non-clinical Deputy Manager, which I did for two years. After some consideration in where my role was going, I decided to go back to a financial administrator role and applied to work at Woodend.

I am a very caring person and I love to be able to help others and see their reaction when I can do this.

Outside of work I am married with one son who is 24 and at university. I still love to cook and bake, which I do often and treat the staff here at Woodend. I like to swim and walk where and when I can. I always love to push myself and learn new things.

Job Title: Chef Manager Joined: 2007

I began my career at Woodend in 2007 as a Hotel Service Assistant, where I developed a strong foundation in hospitality. In 2012, I transitioned to the kitchen as a Kitchen Assistant and steadily progressed to the role of Cook. During this time, I pursued my NVQ qualifications to become a fully qualified chef. After completing my Level 3 NVQ in Senior Chef training in 2018, I was promoted to Chef Manager, a position I have held ever since, overseeing kitchen operations with dedication and expertise.

Outside of work, I maintain an active lifestyle by regularly attending the gym and running. I also enjoy hiking and have completed the UK’s Three Peaks—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdonia—alongside colleagues from Woodend, fostering teamwork and camaraderie beyond the workplace.

I was self-employed for several years before moving to Spain in 2006. I returned to the UK in 2011 and joined Woodend.

I love the connection I have with the residents; they make me laugh, they make me cry, but I honestly could not think of a better work environment. I am a friendly person with a good sense of humour, and I feel the residents know this and they make coming to work a pleasure for me.

I live locally and I’m married with two children and six grandchildren. We have a caravan in Anglesey which we go to whenever we can, and we love going for lovely coastal walks. I also enjoy holidays abroad, especially Greece.
