Everyone at Belong provides a first-class service to both residents and to their families. The household staff, in particular, are really caring, and nothing is too much trouble. The food provided is varied and nutritious. The en-suite rooms are clean, spacious and well-equipped.

Mum and Dad were both residents of Belong at the same time. The staff did everything they could to make their stay as comfortable as possible. The carers and nurses were brilliant. Special mention to the manager who helped me resolve many difficult situations involving other agencies. She was very comforting and compassionate with me at a very difficult and emotional time.

Our mum and dad didn't have much of a retirement together. Dad passed from MND at 68, then Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's six years later aged 73. After some time using home care, we thought Mum deserved the best and so found her a place at Belong.
It's a wonderful place, doesn't look like a typical care home, more like a hotel.
It's spotlessly clean and tidy, inside and out. The staff are amazing and care for Mum so well.

We're so happy to have found the perfect place!

Many thanks to all of the carers, nurses, and management staff at Belong Wigan, for their outstanding care for my Dad, especially during the last few months when his health deteriorated before his recent passing at the start of Jun'24. We are very appreciative of everything that was done for my Dad, and also for the amazing levels of support and sensitivity that was shown to our family during the last few weeks of his life.

The village is amazing and feels like a hotel. The carers must be trained to a high standard because everyone is amazing. My mum moved into nursing care in Nov she is so happy and the staff on Laurel House and the nurses have been so feelful and explain everything so clearly. Thanks everyone who makes Belong so different.

Having looked after my dad for almost four years, we can't thank Belong staff enough for their support and care during his final weeks. Dad's dementia had seen him go from an incredibly active and lively person to someone who didn't recognise us and couldn't care for himself. Throughout this time, the only 'bright' spot in an otherwise desperately sad situation was the care, support and standards that we knew Dad was receiving 24/7. Everything from the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the environment to - and probably most importantly - the care was exemplary. Special thanks to one member of staff and her team on Elm House. Thank you so much.

My husband, who has dementia, became a resident at Belong Wigan just a month ago, and we have been so pleased with the attention and care he is being given by the staff in Laurel House. From the first time we visited, we found everyone involved in the running of Belong so friendly and caring, from reception, the bistro and the household itself, which feels homely and welcoming. There are plenty of activities available for the residents to take part in if they so choose and when relatives and friends visit, they can visit the bistro for coffee or a meal which feels like “going out” to my husband.

We are so happy we chose Belong and it gives me and my family peace of mind to know he is being so well cared for and his needs are being met by all the caring staff.

One day I hope that all care homes will be like Belong.
The staff are all knowledgeable and caring and put both residents and relatives at ease.
Belong is a social hub for the residents with numerous events to cater for all abilities and needs.
The bistro is the focus of Belong and everyone is welcomed for their amazing selection of 'home-cooked' food, the bistro staff know all the residents well.
The venue is a great facility and the on-site hairdressing salon is easy to use and convenient.
The carers in each household take care to cook food that is enjoyed by the residents and the environment is always spotlessly clean with capable on-site maintenance staff.
The carers ensure that all residents are as comfortable as possible with strict attention to medication needs.
There is good access to a GP and the on-site nursing team.
There are gardens and children's facilities.
The front-of-house staff and management are highly capable and approachable.

I hope that I haven't left anyone out!

My mother-in-law has middle-stage dementia and has lived at Belong Wigan for ten months. She managed to live in her own home for quite a long time with live-in carers but became increasingly unhappy, didn't eat well and was basically fading away. We reluctantly moved her into Belong Wigan but it has proved to be a very positive change. The environment is bright, clean and welcoming and the staff make a huge effort to include her in lots of activities which were not available whilst living at home. She is now much happier (although the dementia prevents her from realising it) and she has regained lost weight. We cannot think of anything that could be improved at Belong Wigan and we thoroughly recommend it.

My aunt moved into Belong Wigan in September 2023 and has settled in very well. The staff on Cedar are excellent and provide fantastic care for her. Her health and well-being have increased enormously and it's a massive weight off our shoulders knowing she's happy and cared for. I would highly recommend Belong for its facilities, cleanliness and first-class staff and in my opinion, there's nowhere better.

A modern, purpose-built, homely and very well-maintained caring environment for residents with dementia... staffed by friendly, compassionate and dedicated carers. Full facilities present: scrupulously clean. Residents' rooms open directly into a lovely, spacious communal area "landscaped" by groupings of soft-furnishings with a TV viewing area, tables and chairs and an open-plan catering space... all permanently staffed in good number: no "institutional" corridors etc!
Large, glazed panel doors give access to a lovely garden area.

Qualified staff diligently deliver prescribed medications. Health issues are well monitored with timely interventions included from GPs and health care specialists when needed. There is a very detailed daily logging of personal care measures delivered for each resident which is available for viewing at any time via the online portal. There is a very good programme of inclusive, daily activities operated to stimulate and engage residents.

I can’t speak highly enough of all the staff at Belong in Wigan. Everyone you meet is busy but happy to help and above all, they look after my dad with care and attention that I find hard, even as his son, to understand how it’s maintained. His dementia has made him really quite difficult and the patience required to get him to do anything - get up, eat, behave (!) etc. - is impossible to maintain, unless you are a Belong person. We thank our lucky stars that we found this place, this home (in the familial sense) for Dad in the twilight of his life. They even bought him socks and new slippers for Christmas; how lovely is that?

Dad had been a household resident for about eighteen months now. Everyone is so friendly and understanding of the position we are in as a family and they have definitely helped us to cope with the best way of communicating with Dad and understanding his needs. The bistro and the venue are two brilliant resources which help us to treat Dad as he feels as though he has been out for a meal even though he has just changed rooms. Nursing staff are practical and caring. As a family, we are so grateful to all the staff at Belong Wigan who contribute to our peace of mind that Dad is in the right place and receiving the right care.

I found the home to be a very warm and caring place, very clean and comfortable for the residents. There are lots of extra facilities for residents to use. Carers in Willow House, where my sister resided, were always kind, considerate and hardworking and I will forever be grateful for the love they showed my sister, especially the last days of her life.

Many thanks.

My stepmother moved to Belong Wigan 20 months ago. She had dementia and other health conditions. I was worried she might not settle but she made the transition easily and her health and wellbeing improved. The household model works very well and does feel like home. It’s small enough for staff and residents to get to know each other well.
She enjoyed socialising in her household and taking part in some of the organised activities. Meals and snacks were home-cooked in the household and were varied and interesting. Her care was excellent in all ways and her family was welcome and supported too. The relatives gateway gave daily updates and allowed the family to exchange messages with staff.
Her health gradually deteriorated and she died recently, very peacefully and with family with her. The end-of-life care was compassionate and absolutely outstanding.

I am so grateful to the manager, care staff, nurses and everyone at Belong Wigan for all their warmth and care.

We have sadly lost our dad recently. Very hard to think Dad is not here anymore, I miss him terribly. But, I wanted to say that the whole team at Belong had made Dad's life good. He was struggling with dementia, but the family at Belong gave us as a family really, really good memories to be left with. If Dad had still been at home things wouldn’t have been as happy as they were. Dad was so content and happy, the girls were absolutely great, caring, genuinely good-hearted people, perfect hearts. Really good place to be, made Dad's and our life so much better than it would have been. Thank you so so much, genuinely couldn’t have asked for more.

She progressed to the role of Care Supervisor and then to Care Manager in 2000, working at several homes within the organisation. Gill was promoted to the post of Home Manager in 2003 and moved to Sherwood House in 2006, where she moved the learning and development strategy forward to prepare the team of staff for the move to the Belong setting and working culture. Lana WelshJob Title:Support Manager

Qualifications: Registered Nurse, Level 5 in Leadership and Management

Experience: Lana moved from Edinburgh in 2002 to complete a nursing degree at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and qualified in 2005. She worked as a Registered Nurse for eleven years, as a Specialist Nurse in women’s health and oncology.

Lana's goal was to move away from acute care into a social care setting and in 2016 she began her career at Belong Wigan, as a Registered Nurse. She went on to be nominated for the Good Nurse Award at the 2017 Great British Care Awards, before progressing to the role of Lead Nurse in 2018 and in April 2019 she was appointed to the role of Support Manager. Lana has since completed a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and remains a Registered Nurse.

Tanya Highton

Tanya joined Belong in 2012 as a temporary receptionist and developed her role whilst working toward Health and Social Care qualifications 2 and 3, progressing to the role of Senior Support Worker and later to the role of Experience Coordinator, with responsibility for the development and implementation of a programme of activities for customers living in the village and the wider local community. In 2021, due to the retirement of the village’s long-serving front-of-house manager, Tanya made the decision to move back to the front-of-house team to lead the front-of-house, administration and caretaking teams.

Charlene Frodsham
Charlene FrodshamJob Title:Experience Coordinator

Local community champion, Charlene Frodsham, from Wigan, joined the team at Belong Wigan in early 2021, taking up the post of experience coordinator and working alongside residents and colleagues to provide a creative programme of meaningful occupation via events, one-to-one and group activities.

Initially from a customer service background, Charlene's enthusiasm and cheerful nature prompted her to take on the role of community champion for the supermarket brand Asda. It was here that her talent shone as she organised community challenges and fundraising activities for local groups and charities, including those that provide dementia care and support for adults with learning disabilities. When donating board games to Belong, she was 'blown away' by their set-up, which far exceeded her expectations of a typical care provider. Upon learning about the vacancy of experience coordinator, Charlene was excited to apply, feeling this was an opportunity that she couldn't let pass by.

Taking a leading role in both these programmes, Charlene will be working closely with the residents and providing activities to inspire and delight them.

Sophie Walls
Sophie WallsJob Title:Belong at Home Area Manager

Qualifications: Level 5 in Leadership Management.

Sophie has worked for the organisation for over 11 years, starting her career as a support worker in the village households. Two years later, Sophie was appointed to the role of senior support worker and quickly progressed to the role of lead senior support worker, before joining Belong's home care team.

Sophie has completed a level 5 in leadership Management and in 2013 Sophie won the Excellence in Resident Handling Award at the Regional Care Awards and went on to the National Care Awards and won the National award.
