My mother chose Belong Wigan as the place she wanted to be when she needed assistance to live independently. When she needed more than assisted living, she moved into a dementia unit.
The care, support and compassion provided by the staff at Belong is exceptional. A close friend who has worked in the care industry for over 20 years told me she wished all care homes delivered the same service. It is not only the residents and their families who are supported, but the staff have the tools needed to go the extra mile.

My mother was cared for by professional and friendly staff, who took time to know her and what she needed. I cannot thank everyone enough for the care and friendship you showed my mum and our family in her final years.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were informed of everything that was happening. My dad was very well looked after, making sure all his needs were met and made as comfortable as possible. The rooms are very clean with all the comforts of home. The home is very secure. The app they have logs everything, which you can check anytime.

I can't say enough about the outstanding care my dad received at this care home. The management and staff went above and beyond, providing exceptional support and comfort. The cleanliness and top-notch facilities truly set this place apart. The well-kept grounds added to the welcoming atmosphere. I couldn't be happier with our experience here.

Grandad always expressed he didn't want to go into a care setting, however, this was out of our control. This meant we instantly felt guilty when making the decision. After seeing, hearing and reading about Belong Wigan. Every one of us in the family was keen to get the ball rolling. From the beginning to the very end, the staff were with us every step. The bistro and reception areas are very welcoming and homely. Staff on the desk and behind the counters were always very friendly, nothing being too much trouble. They make an effort to know who you are and gain a professional relationship with you. The household staff and the nursing staff were amazing and I couldn't fault their kindness, support and love. The relatives gateway was a great way of checking in and communicating if we were unable to visit. Thank You Belong Wigan for the love, care and support given to us all and to Grandad.

We are very grateful for everything.

My aunt lived at Belong Wigan for almost 18 months until sadly her health deteriorated and she passed away there in August surrounded by her family and the lovely caring sympathetic staff, both carers and nurses, who works at the home. They are a credit to Belong Wigan.

As a family we have always been impressed by the care and support given to my aunt and the friendliness and kindness shown to us whenever we visited. Belong is an excellent care home with professional,

Having had recent experience of 2 other care homes in the area I consider Belong Wigan to be outstanding. It is a beautiful home, the household system is well thought out and my aunt has thrived there. The environment is homely, welcoming and very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful, always keeping my sister and I informed of our aunt’s progress. They have treated her with kindness, dignity and respect. The Relative’s Gateway is a valuable tool that allows relatives to access daily care notes online where you can see what has happened with your relative every day - what they have done, care they have had and what they have had to eat and drink, so reassuring when you are not able to visit every day. Messages can also be shared between relatives and staff. Sadly my aunt’s health deteriorated and she passed away peacefully there last week. We were treated with kindness and compassion, it was clear that the staff had become very fond of her and were affected by her passing as much as we were.

My mum was a resident of Belong Wigan for around 3 years after my dad passed away. She had quite severe dementia but couldn't fault the care she was given in particular how they dealt with mum's final weeks before passing away. It is great that they have in-house nurses as well as the care staff and they dealt with Mum's death in a very caring and sympathetic way and provided all the support we could have wished for.

I have been residing in one of the apartments here for nearly six years and found my life very satisfactory with the establishment in both the environment and staff who have always cooperated with my requirements, both physically and mentally. My wife was also cared for, for nearly five years, especially when needing special treatment and end-of-life care. I have appreciated the experience of meeting and having an association with so many kind people and ones who care for their fellow beings. Many thanks to all concerned, love and best wishes.

Belong Wigan meets my sister's everyday needs and has a homely, welcoming atmosphere. My sister greatly appreciates the help she receives because of her medical conditions even when she can't express it in words. She is warmly reassured if she is ever unsettled. She loves to watch 'feature films' and sports on tv and she joins in with sing-alongs, discos and dominoes with the other residents as far as she is able.
My sister really values the opportunity to attend the weekly communion service which meets her spiritual needs. She enjoys socialising with family and friends that visit and occasional trips out.

Family and friends are warmly welcomed at Belong and Cedar staff know all the residents by name and their interests. I would highly recommend a visit for a family looking for a loved one's residential and nursing care.

Overall Experience
Dad has been there since February and seems to have settled in quite well. The staff are lovely and seem to genuinely care for the residents. The set-up is more like a home rather than residential care and is a massive improvement on the home he was previously admitted to (not our choice as he was fit for medical discharge and had to go somewhere) and to nearly all the ones we went looking at. There are plenty of activities arranged so I do hope he joins in.
The only downside at the moment is the loss of his most favourite jumper and the delay in labelling his clothes with his new information. Also as he was a bit freaked out at being on the 1st floor, I bought some window frosting and it looks like it's been put on by a toddler.

On the whole, though it is a completely charming place and the care they are giving Dad is excellent. 5 stars.

My dad is a resident at Belong, Wigan and has been for 9 months. He has Dementia and living at home was getting too difficult for him. From moving Dad into Belong, the care and treatment to both Dad and his family has been outstanding. The household set-up is not like a regular care home and with only eleven residents per household, it is very homely. I have recommended Belong to a number of people, as I feel the quality of care given is excellent.

My mum was looked after beautifully during the years she lived in Belong Wigan. Choosing a care home for a relative is such a difficult decision but I'm so glad we found Belong as they really do provide the highest quality of care you could hope for. Mum was diagnosed with a complex neuro-degenerative condition at a relatively young age and the care staff at Cedar house took the time to get to know her and give her the support she needed (physically, mentally and emotionally). The household's accommodation is cosy and homely - it felt like her own home, rather than the typical nursing home set-up but still had all the equipment and adaptations needed. Belong Wigan is a happy, vibrant community with staff who really care about their residents. Thank you again for looking after Mum, I know she was well-cared for and happy there.

Choosing a nursing home can be so difficult. For anyone reading this, there are four features about Belong Wigan Care Home that make it stand out. First; the household system (eleven residents per household) is fantastic. My late father had dementia and the familiarity of being in a living room that resembles a home, where people sit and eat together, is excellent. During Covid, it also minimised infection. Second; the home has on-site nursing care 24/7 and they are excellent. Other homes say they have this but actually use external resources. Thirdly the online portal enables you to log on and monitor every move, from their meals, the amount of fluid intake, activities, sleeping - everything is on there. If you live 200 miles away, like me, this is a godsend. Finally, the culture of the home is a testament to everyone who works there. It's a happy place, you hear laughter all the time, staff are loving and caring, it's a vocation not a job. Hope this helps!

Belong Wigan has provided residential dementia care to my mother for over eleven years, and it has been of a consistently high standard throughout. The staff are not just professional but also naturally caring, warm and committed. Many of the current care staff who look after my mother have been there as long as she has, and it's very good to have this continuity. Communication is good - I am always informed of any concerns and consulted on significant decisions. The living areas and bedrooms are comfortable, pleasant and well-furnished. It's hard to imagine a better place for my mother.

Lana's goal was to move away from acute care into a social care setting and in 2016 she began her career at Belong Wigan, as a Registered Nurse. She went on to be nominated for the Good Nurse Award at the 2017 Great British Care Awards, before progressing to the role of Lead Nurse in 2018 and in April 2019 she was appointed to the role of Support Manager. Lana has since completed a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and remains a Registered Nurse.

Tanya joined Belong in 2012 as a temporary receptionist and developed her role whilst working toward Health and Social Care qualifications 2 and 3, progressing to the role of Senior Support Worker and later to the role of Experience Coordinator, with responsibility for the development and implementation of a programme of activities for customers living in the village and the wider local community. In 2021, due to the retirement of the village’s long-serving front-of-house manager, Tanya made the decision to move back to the front-of-house team to lead the front-of-house, administration and caretaking teams.

Charlene Frodsham
Charlene FrodshamJob Title:Experience Coordinator

Local community champion, Charlene Frodsham, from Wigan, joined the team at Belong Wigan in early 2021, taking up the post of experience coordinator and working alongside residents and colleagues to provide a creative programme of meaningful occupation via events, one-to-one and group activities.

Initially from a customer service background, Charlene's enthusiasm and cheerful nature prompted her to take on the role of community champion for the supermarket brand Asda. It was here that her talent shone as she organised community challenges and fundraising activities for local groups and charities, including those that provide dementia care and support for adults with learning disabilities. When donating board games to Belong, she was 'blown away' by their set-up, which far exceeded her expectations of a typical care provider. Upon learning about the vacancy of experience coordinator, Charlene was excited to apply, feeling this was an opportunity that she couldn't let pass by.

Taking a leading role in both these programmes, Charlene will be working closely with the residents and providing activities to inspire and delight them.

Sophie Walls

Sophie has completed a level 5 in leadership Management and in 2013 Sophie won the Excellence in Resident Handling Award at the Regional Care Awards and went on to the National Care Awards and won the National award.
