We participated in arts and crafts today and it was one of the most rewarding things we have done. The experienced team at Belong Wigan make us feel special and try and cater to our mental state and loneliness especially through Covid. They are a credit to your company.

Belong Wigan is very caring, loving and respect residents as though they are like their family. They look after my dad so much that I know I can rest at home knowing he is in safe hands. The food is excellent, the activities are excellent, care/support is excellent this home is 5 star. All the staff are great and caring not just for the residents but for families too. My mother has been a resident for almost 5 years, she has advanced Alzheimer's. During her stay, she has been treated with dignity, care and respect by the staff. A caring professional atmosphere is evident through the village. The staff strive to make life here as homely as possible whilst maintaining high professional standards. All care should be like this.

Belong is a high-quality care home, it is not cheap but you get what you pay for, other care homes we visited seemed lacking compared to Belong there really was no other choice. In particular, we loved the idea of father being in an apartment and mother in a cared for facility and they could still be close. The family love the Bistro where we could all get together and share a meal.

I would like to thank all of the staff at Belong Wigan who are involved in the care of my mum. They do an exceptional job. I would especially like to mention Mum's named companion for going above and beyond with Mum with the pamper sessions and being a friend to her whilst I am unable to visit during this unprecedented time. Thank you for being amazing and for all that you do.

My mum lived in the village for 5 years. At the beginning, in Honeysuckle Apartment and later Willow Household. The care mum received was first class. Mum was loved by all the fabulous carers and staff and always felt happy. We cannot thank you all enough for everything you did as she sadly slipped away. You are true champions and if mum was here she would hug you all. I highly recommend Belong Wigan.

Overall Experience

Our mother sadly passed away at the beginning of August and had been a resident on the Willow household since June 2017. The staff treated Mother with great care and dignity at all times and for that we are very grateful. The care home manager and all her staff do a great job in what, at times, must be difficult circumstances and are always willing to listen to any concerns relatives may have. The nursing staff are also very caring as are the ladies in the Bistro. Nothing is 100% perfect in this world but the positives far outweigh any negatives.

I am not a relative who is easily pleased as those who know me will attest. However, I cannot be more grateful to everyone on Cedar who care for our mum. With the COVID lockdown and all the difficulties that brings I have been really impressed with how Belong have handled things. Emotions have run high especially with myself, all carers and staff have been sensitive and understanding. I can only thank everyone again and assure you we do understand how very difficult the work you do is. We appreciate and value everything you all do.

My mum was very happy at Belong. She enjoyed her meals in the bistro with family and friends, her day trips out and the different activities she got involved in with the wider community. The staff are extremely caring and know all residents by their first names. They have a super activities team to keep residents busy at all times of the day. We enjoyed all the family days and always felt very welcome when we visited.

I would like to thank Belong Wigan for caring so well for my dad who had gone into them paraplegic due to a spinal abscess.
The journey from start to finish was fantastic, extremely good communication with my dad and his family. All the staff on Willow House are to be commended for the care, patience and kindness. My dad only being 61-years-old and the loss of his ability to walk only happening over a year he was frustrated sometimes had low moods but Willow House kept his spirits high.

He has now returned home yesterday to his wife and I can not thank you enough for helping this happen especially through this pandemic. I know it's been difficult to sort but you did it, you know who you are. Thank you for not just being carers but also good friends to my dad.

It was a real privilege to support your Dad, and we are so pleased that we were able to help with his rehabilitation so he could return home - even though we miss him at the village! Thanks for your kind comments, which will mean a great deal to the team and we wish your family all the very best.

Belong Wigan and particularly Beech House, where my mum lived and now cared for over the last few years is an amazing place. I felt that she was part of a family who encouraged her to do things and live life to the full. Mum was well fed with home-cooked meals, clean and well cared for. The staff were always there for her and also for relatives like me, keeping us updated and informed, also making us welcome. I would recommend this wonderful home with its fantastic staff to anyone. It really is a home from home.

Gill has led the team at Belong Wigan as General Manager since the village opened in 2009. She is highly experienced and has worked in the care profession for over 25 years, starting her career as a care assistant in a dementia unit. She progressed to the role of Care Supervisor and then to Care Manager in 2000, working at several homes within the organisation. Gill was promoted to the post of Home Manager in 2003 and moved to Sherwood House in 2006, where she moved the learning and development strategy forward to prepare the team of staff for the move to the Belong setting and working culture. She holds the Registered Managers Award, along with a number of other management and training qualifications.

Lana Welsh
Lana WelshJob Title:Support Manager

Qualifications: Registered Nurse, Level 5 in Leadership and Management

Experience: Lana moved from Edinburgh in 2002 to complete a nursing degree at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and qualified in 2005. She worked as a Registered Nurse for eleven years, as a Specialist Nurse in women’s health and oncology.

Lana's goal was to move away from acute care into a social care setting and in 2016 she began her career at Belong Wigan, as a Registered Nurse. She went on to be nominated for the Good Nurse Award at the 2017 Great British Care Awards, before progressing to the role of Lead Nurse in 2018 and in April 2019 she was appointed to the role of Support Manager. Lana has since completed a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and remains a Registered Nurse.

Tanya Highton
Tanya HightonJob Title:Front of House ManagerJoined: 2012

Tanya joined Belong in 2012 as a temporary receptionist and developed her role whilst working toward Health and Social Care qualifications 2 and 3, progressing to the role of Senior Support Worker and later to the role of Experience Coordinator, with responsibility for the development and implementation of a programme of activities for customers living in the village and the wider local community. In 2021, due to the retirement of the village’s long-serving front-of-house manager, Tanya made the decision to move back to the front-of-house team to lead the front-of-house, administration and caretaking teams.

Charlene Frodsham
Charlene FrodshamJob Title:Experience Coordinator

Local community champion, Charlene Frodsham, from Wigan, joined the team at Belong Wigan in early 2021, taking up the post of experience coordinator and working alongside residents and colleagues to provide a creative programme of meaningful occupation via events, one-to-one and group activities.

Initially from a customer service background, Charlene's enthusiasm and cheerful nature prompted her to take on the role of community champion for the supermarket brand Asda. It was here that her talent shone as she organised community challenges and fundraising activities for local groups and charities, including those that provide dementia care and support for adults with learning disabilities. When donating board games to Belong, she was 'blown away' by their set-up, which far exceeded her expectations of a typical care provider. Upon learning about the vacancy of experience coordinator, Charlene was excited to apply, feeling this was an opportunity that she couldn't let pass by.

Taking a leading role in both these programmes, Charlene will be working closely with the residents and providing activities to inspire and delight them.

Sophie Walls
Sophie WallsJob Title:Belong at Home Area Manager

Qualifications: Level 5 in Leadership Management.

Sophie has worked for the organisation for over 11 years, starting her career as a support worker in the village households. Two years later, Sophie was appointed to the role of senior support worker and quickly progressed to the role of lead senior support worker, before joining Belong's home care team.

Sophie has completed a level 5 in leadership Management and in 2013 Sophie won the Excellence in Resident Handling Award at the Regional Care Awards and went on to the National Care Awards and won the National award. Particular outstanding features included her ability to empathise with residents in their own care planning for moving.
