The place was clean enough and staff were friendly. Occupational Therapist staff great and so was the ward manager (ten bed NHS bit).
The only downfall is leaving clients/residents/patients on the toilet for too long.
My mother suffers from spinal and rib fractures but was able to walk to the toilet
with a staff nurse and stick. She needed a wee and was left on the toilet, she buzzed for staff to get her off. No-one came, was in agony and had to get herself off the toilet and back to bed. Saw this happen to other people.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. The nurse call system has recently been upgraded and following your comments received we instigated a maintenance review with the contractors who were commissioned to fit the new nurse call system. A programming error was identified which has now been rectified. This means that the call system now operates independently on either floor and the calls are no longer backed up in the system. We would like to apologise for any delay in receiving care on the occasion mentioned in your review.

Overall a positive experience for a first time user of this service with helpful friendly staff. The only negative I have to say is the food is low budget, with not enough choice and sometimes quite bland.

Pleasant room overlooking trees with a big window.
Lovely dining room set with proper tablecloths and food very good and varied. Mum came for 2 weeks rehabilitation; all the staff and carers extremely kind, patient and helpful and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Richmond House.

Mum's intermediate care followed a lengthy spell in hospital after breaking her leg. At 91 years old, this care was to be extensive and often painful. The staff at Richmond House Nursing Home were so professional in their approach to mum's needs. The level of care has been outstanding.

Excellent staff which use their abilities well. Found it difficult to walk with Zimmer, with help and guidance I was walking unaided by myself within 3 days. Staff encouraged me every day until I was efficient.

An hospitable, caring and concerned environment. Nothing is too much for any member of staff from nursing staff and admissions to the cleaners. The building is obviously cared for and refurbishment of rooms, upgrading, was taking place during my wife's stay.

Mother aged 95 was recently transferred from hospital to Richmond House for intermediate care. On arrival, she could barely stand and could only walk a few steps with the aid of a Zimmer ( prior to illness was sequence dancing twice a week ). Within 2 weeks the staff had her back on her feet and preparing
for independent living back home. Mother and her family have nothing but praise for the sterling work the staff do - in fact, mother says going into Richmond House was the best thing that could have happened. Mother's stay was 1 day short of 2 weeks and she is now back home living on her own and doing extremely well. Once again we would like to thank all the staff for the excellent work they do.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“I believe kind care is treating each person as an individual and enabling them to make their own life choices.”


As a Registered Nurse, Lorraine has gained over 35 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Having worked at Richmond House for a number of years, Lorraine shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Richmond House.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Lorraine remarked: “Knowing that I can go home at the end of the day leaving my residents happy and well cared for.”


Away from work, Lorraine enjoys swimming, watching Rugby League and DIY.
