Prince Alfred care home provides residential and respite care, with a team devoted to enriching residents’ lives every day. The gardens, overlooking beautiful Mystery Park, are a standout feature - designed by staff and residents after winning an internal Sanctuary Care competition. Raised beds allow residents to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers, which are used for cooking and flower arranging. Recently, residents enjoyed carrot cake baked with home-grown carrots, giving a real sense of achievement.

Activities include barbecues with family and friends, cocktail hours, and pampering in the hair salon. Residents play an active role in home life, with one running a book club and another leading residents’ meetings as ambassador. Community connections are strong, with visits such as Liverpool Museum’s House of Memories project, sparking conversations about local history.

Dining is a highlight, with two chefs preparing everything from roast dinners to authentic curries, plus home-baked cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea. One chef recently competed in Sanctuary Care’s Masterchef contest. Families are welcome anytime and can stay connected through a private Facebook page.

Proud to be veteran-friendly

Prince Alfred has achieved Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) status, supporting the practical, emotional and social needs of the armed forces community. The VFF is a collaboration between Royal Star & Garter, Royal British Legion and NHS Veterans’ Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA).

Dad has been here for several years now and can honestly say the staff have been a credit. They are hands-on, and nothing seems a trouble for them. They have kept me informed when Dad has been ill, cared for him and had him back on his feet when, at times, it looked unlikely. The place is spotlessly
clean and has recently been refurbished to a high standard. There is plenty of entertainment and even some aspects of gardening, and residents can enjoy the summer sun outside. The food is prepared and cooked well with a varied menu.

My mum is a resident of Prince Alfred. She has Alzheimer's. She is happy there. She enjoys the meals and the choice of food available. There are a range of activities to keep her entertained, as well as outings when possible. She has been made to feel safe by the staff, with constant reassurance, when
she is confused or upset. When she was ill recently, her recovery was thanks to the staff, who acted quickly to get her to the hospital. I know my mum is in safe hands, and I trust them to treat her with respect and kindness. I couldn't ask for more from them.

My mum is currently a resident at Prince Alfred care home. I came with some family members to view the home before Mum moved in, and we were very impressed. The building has recently undergone a major revamp and is bright, modern, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. It is warm and feels homely
with lovely fresh flowers, candles and chandeliers, and we can't praise the manager and the whole team enough for the kindness and care Mum is receiving and the dignity and respect shown to our mum. The food is outstanding, and apart from three meals a day, the staff also serve afternoon tea and supper to the residents. There are also regular activities organised for the residents. We are happy in the knowledge that our mum is receiving the best care possible. Thank you.

My mum is living at the home, and I have to say it's really home from home for her... I have reports and photos sent to me regularly. She loves being here; she feels safe and comfortable... always praising the staff. I live away from Liverpool and really happy and relaxed that she gets well looked after.
December was a busy time for everyone, but every day she had something to look forward to. There was loads of entertainment.

My mum went to Prince Alfred in December initially for respite care after being in hospital. My brother and I had viewed Prince Alfred in the summer looking at possible long-term care for my mum, and were very impressed with the home and staff then. However, since my mum has been there, we have seen
first-hand how wonderful the staff are and how caring they all are. My mum is so well looked after and looks amazing now, and we feel so relieved and happy that she is being so well cared for. The home is so clean and bright, and I feel so lucky to have found Prince Alfred for Mum. The manager and her team have been so helpful and reassuring and have gone out of their way to ensure Mum settled in so quickly and so well. There are lots of activities arranged, which are so good, and the residents really enjoy them. I would recommend Prince Alfred to anyone looking for residential for a family member.

My “aunt” has been a resident for a number of years. During that time, she has been very well cared for. She enjoys the interaction with her fellow residents and staff alike. All her needs are readily cared for. When visiting, sadly not as often as we would like due to distances involved, we have always
been made very welcome and watched the wonderful interaction of staff and residents. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff, and there is always a friendly smile and gentle kindness observed.

Our relative was admitted to Prince Alfred in December 2022 - as an emergency.
From the beginning of the procedure - the staff were really helpful, thoughtful, kind and responded to individual needs.
As our relative's nursing needs increased - she was admitted to another nursing home. I would like
to commend Prince Alfred staff for taking extra care/effort to return a Xmas jumper to the new home - this act of kindness made our relatives Xmas (Xmas2023).

Always a pleasure to visit my mum at Prince Alfred as the staff are so friendly and I know she is getting the best care possible there as well as many laughs.
All the carers take time to talk and make sure she is feeling okay and the entertainment lady is a gem and well loved by everyone especially
my mum.

I can’t sing the praises of Prince Alfred and every one of its staff more highly. From the moment first visited we were met with kindness, understanding and friendliness. The staff member we met was hugely sympathetic and went out of her way to help.
The home is literally that home. It’s immaculate,
spotless and beautifully furnished. My mum had a lovely room overlooking a beautiful garden and fields beyond. The staff are unbelievable. Nothing is too much trouble. They constantly talk to residents and offer drinks, food and treats. The activities coordinator is the loveliest woman always thinking of new fun activities to keep residents happy. We visited many homes terrible, some ok and some good but none compared to Prince Alfred. The manager prides herself on running a fantastic home with fantastic staff, she deserves a medal. If you’re looking for somewhere for your loved one look no further. You will find no better than Prince Alfred!

A wonderful home. The staff here are amazing and incredibly attentive to the needs of the residents. We were immediately made to feel welcome on our first visit to have a look at the home and our minds were made up immediately. A lovely location overlooking the park, with wonderful landscaped gardens
for the residents to enjoy and with the recent refurbishment to the main communal areas and bedrooms, the place is immaculate and the home is truly a home from home.
Couldn't recommend Prince Alfred's enough!

My mum has been a care-home resident at Prince Alfred since March 2021.
The care she has received from all of the staff has been exemplary!
She recently had a fall, had to be checked out at hospital and was discharged the next day. Throughout this time, the manager and her staff kept me updated on
how she was.
I visited Mum the next day in the care home. All of the staff displayed genuine warmth, care and concern for her.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Prince Alfred staff make this care home the best there is. Myself and my family feel very blessed that my mum is in your care.
Thank you all so much.

My dad received the best care and support from all the staff at Prince Alfred during his 2 and a half years there, they 100% supported his transition into dementia care and I cannot fault them. My dad was very happy there and I would recommend this home if any family are looking into a residential home
for their loved ones.

I have nothing but praise for Prince Alfred Care Home. My aunt moved here just over 18 months ago. She has learning difficulties. The staff made her transition into care so easy. My aunt has flourished here and loves the staff and residents alike. The staff are so friendly and they obviously love caring
for my aunt. She has a lovely room overlooking the park and has all her personal belongings there so she settled in really quickly.
We can’t thank them enough and we would highly recommend Prince Alfred Care Home to anyone looking for high-quality, friendly and responsive care in lovely surroundings. Thank you!

I couldn’t recommend Prince Alfred for the care of your loved one enough.
All the staff go above and beyond to always personalise the care of each individual resident, nothing is ever too much trouble and they treat all the residents with dignity, respect and good humour at all times.
Whenever you
visit the home there is always a lovely, warm, friendly atmosphere and staff always have lots of different events/activities on to cheer the residents up so they can do as much or as little as they want but always feel included.
I am so happy my nan is at Prince Alfred’s, it was a really hard decision to have to put her into care but it brings my mum and I tremendous comfort that she is in a care home that is second to none.
Thank you so much to all the staff who work so incredibly hard and do such an amazing job.

My father has lived at Prince Alfred for nearly eighteen months and has settled there very well. The staff are caring and know their residents very well. I recently visited for a game of Scrabble, played in the lounge and was made very welcome. The atmosphere was light and bright with banter and conversation
between residents and staff made a very pleasant afternoon.

My mum is a resident at Prince Albert and has thrived since moving there. The staff are kind and caring and do everything they can to make the residents life's comfortable and enjoyable. The residents are treated with dignity and respect, and staff always find time for a friendly conversation or to
offer assistance. The accommodation is great with lots of thoughtful touches providing a home-from-home environment. The home is spotlessly clean throughout. The food is good and well-presented. There are also activities and socialising so residents quickly feel welcome and part of the community and days pass pleasurably. My congratulations and thanks to the manager and all of the staff for providing a truly outstanding and personal care experience which makes a huge difference to the lives of those in their care.

My mother has been in Prince Alfred for a few months now and whenever I ring to speak with her the staff are always very friendly and helpful.
I live a long way out of the area and I am planning a visit very soon but my sister lives locally hence, she is able to visit weekly and is very happy with
the care that Mum is receiving.
I am looking forward to meeting the team soon and in the meantime, it is very reassuring to know that she is being well looked after.
Thank you all.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.853)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.853) out of 10 for Prince Alfred Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Prince Alfred Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 222 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prince Alfred Residential Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
