Willow Gardens care home is known for its person-centred care and warm, family feel, with some team members having over 10 years’ experience. The home offers residential, dementia and respite care, which can be booked in advance.

Life at Willow Gardens is vibrant, with activities including animal visits, crafts and gardening in the mini allotment, where residents grow fruit and vegetables for the chef to use in meals. Pamper sessions with manicures and hand massages are popular, and the home has a hair salon for weekly appointments with a mobile hairdresser.

Community connections are strong, with regular visits from Prince’s Trust volunteers and local students. Residents attend events at the local college, enjoy weekly trips to the cricket club for comedy, music and dance, and go shopping at The Strand Shopping Centre nearby. There are also outings to Chester Zoo, Blackpool and the local safari park. Weekly Holy Communion is held at the home.
Dining is a highlight, with home-cooked meals and baking for afternoon tea. Residents help shape menus through feedback and tasting sessions and enjoy cocktail and mocktail making. Families are welcome anytime and can stay connected via a private Facebook page.

The home has recently undergone an impressive refurbishment, creating beautifully decorated bedrooms and welcoming lounges for relaxation and activities.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My sister resided at Willow Gardens, Bootle for more than ten years.
She was very happy there and it was very much her home. She felt safe and loved until the very end, she passed away in January 2018 aged 61.

Carers, nurses and all staff looked after her well. She was blind and so it was important

to her to feel safe.

Staff were always kind and the manager was very approachable in every way.
I cannot fault this care home and recommend it highly.

Review from Terence H (Sister of Resident) published on 30 January 2018 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Since my last review, there have been big improvements made. The Regional Manager invited me and other relatives to a meeting with her and the Home Manager. All issues were discussed and an agreement made that my sister would be served food in a more caring manner and would be out of bed whenever possible
when food was served.
She would also be fed smaller more manageable portions.
She has also been transferred to a better room with more facilities. Personal hygiene matters were also discussed. A suitable Care Plan would be put in place which will involve more scrutiny of her medical conditions.
Monthly meetings have been introduced with relatives of residents to participate. It was agreed that a Fire Certificate would be displayed in a prominent position. I am now satisfied that under the new ownership Willow Gardens and View is now being run in a caring and professional manner. Most of the issues raised in my last review have now been resolved.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.677) out of 10 for Willow Gardens Residential and Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.677 for Willow Gardens Residential and Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 269 Ratings = 4.677
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willow Gardens Residential and Nursing Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
