Charlotte House staff are friendly and caring. The rooms are bright, cheerful and clean. The restaurant serves good quality food with plenty of choices. There is good medical support if required. There is plenty of entertainment organised for residents to keep them stimulated mentally and physically.

Charlotte House is an attractive home with a hotel-like appearance, but its main asset is its staff who are unfailingly kind, responsive and good-humoured.

The result is a cheerful, safe atmosphere, which has been great for my father and I look forward to visiting.

My father has been a resident for seven months. During that time I have found the staff to be kind and friendly and the flow of information in both directions between my family and the home has been very good.

My father appears clean and well cared for, and often comments on the excellent quality of the meals provided. When my aunt also required a care home, my family had no hesitation in placing her with my father in Charlotte House.

Having moved homes due to a poor quality of care, we are delighted with the care he is receiving. My friend thinks we have moved him into a five-star hotel. As an alcoholic with incontinence issues, my friend and his room are kept clean, treated with dignity and he looks smarter than when he lived at home. His room never smells (like the previous home) and the staff and management are always pleasant and professional. They are very proactive to his needs. We highly recommend Charlotte House.

Very friendly caring staff from the initial visit to respite care. Nursing care excellent. Dad was dreading staying, but enjoyed himself, especially the food. Not been apart from Mum for 58 years and is now OK with coming back.

Have found that food is not so good, when the male chef is on ie fish is small and more batter than fish, chips are more like french fries, certain soups are watery and no flavour.

Also, there never seems to be any wholemeal bread.

Since arriving almost a year ago at Charlotte House, the standard of care has always been 5 stars. My mother is always clean and well looked after. Her room is spotless, as is all of the premises. Excellent staff, great quality on all levels. My thanks go to everyone involved for taking a great deal of previous stress and worry over mother's welfare. I remain relaxed and confident. She has dedicated caring staff. Many thanks.

Following yet another stay in hospital and being discharged back to own house, dad found it impossible to manage most personal tasks and daily activities. His health began to improve immediately he moved to Charlotte House and this brought great comfort to my wife and myself together with dads grandchildren. His abilities are now restricted and he is dependant on others to help him. The staff at Charlotte House are excellent in both their attention and manner. I visit dad each day at various times of the day and night and witness kindness and patience from all staff concerned. For many years dad and I spoke about the possibility of one day moving into a care home and this was met with many unfavourable comments from him. That has all changed. He is so happy and settled which pleases not only dad but me and the family too.

I was in a desperate situation of needing care for my aunt immediately and the team at Charlotte House bent over backwards to help, sending out a team member to make an assessment and then accepted her that evening. The staff have been attentive to her needs and have all appeared to be caring with jolly dispositions!

My aunt was not keen to ever go into a care home but has commented that whilst it's still an institution, she's quite impressed. (Coming from her that's quite something!) They have accommodated her wilful character eg no men aiding her whilst in the state of undress and even sending the nurse packing as she arrived at midnight to give her an enema - which she later regretted delaying! OK, the food and drinks end up being rather cool by the time they get to her room, but the food in the dining room has been complimented.

In the main, the service provided has been excellent. My father-in-law has been provided with care in a happy and caring environment. Staff all know him by name and as they got to know him they really began to understand his care needs associated with Alzheimer's.

My only observation for improvement is to have consistent standards and at times better communication between staff and supporting relatives.

My mother stayed here for two weeks whilst family went on holiday. Her first day was a Saturday, on arrival I thought the staffing level a little low for the size of the building but the male member of staff was friendly and welcoming. Mum was given a programme of activities but chose not to attend these.

At the end of her stay, Mum was glad to go back to her own house but the care home had met her needs adequately and she had no complaints.

Phil Job Title:General ManagerJoined: 2021

I have worked in the care industry for 29 years to date.

I have managed a range of different services, from commissioning new services to troubleshooting and improving struggling homes. I have also had experience as a regional manager, which gave me the opportunity to manage people who have become dispersed across several local authorities.

I have a degree in management, a Registered Manager's Award, and Level 5 in care management. I am also a trained dementia tutor. I am passionate about providing excellent care. I pride myself on inspiring my team to make a difference in our residents' lives.

Leanne
Leanne Job Title:Deputy Manager

I have worked in the care sector since the age of 18 and have built my career around delivering high-quality, person-centred care. I am a trained Registered Nurse and have been a Deputy Manager for the past five years, with experience across both care home settings and the NHS.

I hold a degree in Nursing, have completed my Level 3 in Health and Social Care, and I am currently working towards my Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, travelling around the UK, and exploring new places and experiences.

Lisa
Lisa Job Title:Wellbeing Coordinator

I've been working on activities now for a little under a year. My reasons for taking this position were that I wanted to bring a little light into our residents' world. Especially those living with dementia. I wanted our residents to understand that just because they live in a care home now doesn't mean their life has to stop. We can still do all the things they used to do at home, like cooking, gardening, taking trips out, and socialising. If I can bring a little bit of excitement into their world. I know I've done my job.

In my spare time, I love spending time with friends and family and my little dog.

Dominic
Dominic Job Title:Head Chef

I have worked 14 years as a chef, and I've been the head chef in 2 previous kitchens, this being my third. All are 5-star kitchens. I started as a kitchen assistant when I was 16 and gradually worked my way up. I ran a small care home kitchen previously and now manage Charlotte House care home kitchen, which is a 5-star kitchen which I’m very proud of.

I have the ability to make my own dishes rather than following recipes. Also, knowing my food can make someone’s day and improve how they feel.

When we’ve all worked to overcome and achieve, for example, when we had the summer fayre, we served over 70 people all at the same time, and the food was of a high quality.

When the quality and presentation of my plate, seeing a table praising the food to each other, is the reason why I do what I do.

I coach a kids' football team, 2 years ago, some of the kids didn’t play football. A few months ago, we won the league and a cup. Anything I do, I go all out and give it everything.

A recipe has no soul; you, the chef, must bring the soul to the recipe.

Stephen
Stephen Job Title:Home Administrator

I have a varied background and have been working in care for around five years. Before that, I gained experience in health insurance, retail, and theatre sales and marketing.

My inspiration to work in care came from looking after my mum before she passed away. I’m so pleased I had that time with her, and it made me realise that working in care is about giving something back.

What I enjoy most about my role is the interaction with people. No two days are ever the same, and I love being able to support a variety of people, from residents to team members.

A highlight of my career has been the opportunity to live and work in both France and Germany.

Outside of work, I’m a big film fan and a proud dad to two dogs, a shih tzu named Molly and a lhasa apso named Bobby.

My favourite saying is: “There’s always somebody worse off than you. Be thankful and try to bear others in mind.”
