Westhaven Nursing & Residential Home

The staff were always helpful and compassionate to Mum. Her personal care was very good and the room was always clean and tidy. We always found the management and staff approachable and willing to address any personal worries Mum had. Totally confident in the level of care of all staff. Mum felt safe and comfortable during her stay at Westhaven Nursing & Residential Home.

Although there are some "niggles", I am more than happy with the care they are receiving.

Mum arrived at Westhaven Nursing and Residential Home with an irreparable bilateral break in November 2018; she was 91. We were told she was unlikely to survive more than a few months. Westhaven Nursing and Residential Home took her under their wing and cared for her. Through constant attention (nursing), a good diet and kindness, Mum thrived. Whenever I visited her, she was always clean, dressed and comfortable. You can tell a good care home when you walk through the door, no smell and a happy atmosphere - try it.

My father was admitted to Westhaven on Tuesday 17th May. He was in poor health having had a serious chest infection and heart fibrillation and he needed 24-hour nursing care. Following a change in his medication and excellent nursing care, he will return home on Monday 13th of June. He was well looked after and the staff were very helpful, especially the matron, nurses and handyman.

My mother-in-law has been in Westhaven now for several months. She has struggled to adapt with her health problems and moving into a care home. All the staff from the management to the carers have been so supportive and understanding with her, and we have seen how relaxed she is with them. We feel reassured my mother-in-law is in a safe and loving care home that meets her needs well.

Kindness and concern shown to a resident with increasing dementia over a five-year stay. Initially, great flexibility in visiting was modified by meticulous insistence on safeguarding rules during the Covid period. He seemed as content as he could be given that he was a severely disabled man, especially towards the end.

The staff at Westhaven provided an outstanding level of care from my mother in the last year of her life. She was considerately and thoughtfully looked after and given individual support to live as she wanted to. When she injured herself in a fall, the staff, including the senior managers, went beyond their responsibilities to ensure she was kept safe and reassured until the ambulance came. Really good care home.

This home is the definition of compassion. All the staff care beautifully for the residents and show concern for families. They provide residents with a friendly, safe space and ensure dignified and personalised care for each resident. The staff take their time to ensure each resident is well fed and always clean. At end of life, they care deeply for the resident and family. The whole team should be commended as a beacon of excellence.

West Haven Nursing Home is a very comfortable home with excellent facilities, the staff are very caring and the food is exceptional. It is run to a very high standard and my mother-in-law and father-in-law were very happy there.

I cannot thank the whole team at Westhaven enough for the care and attention they gave my friend. She arrived at Westhaven four years ago and right from the start, the staff went above and beyond to care for her and keep her healthy. My friend looks so well kept always and she was most happy with her stay at Westhaven. Telling me frequently how she was so well looked after and how lucky she was to be there.

Dad only managed a short stay however, during this time he was treated with kindness and understanding by all the staff. The staff were supportive to dad and me under difficult Covid situation. A big thank you to everyone at Westhaven.

Ratio of staff to residents on occasions makes it difficult for the staff to spend time "socialising" with residents and to offer outside activities during this recent spell of good weather. In particular for the residents with limited mobility who would benefit greatly from the vivid and mental stimulus.

I have always found Westhaven to be a welcoming place, very well kept and the care, in my view, is excellent. The food, the staff, everything is, as I said, excellent.

My mother has been a resident for a number of years. From the outset she has been treated with care, consideration and dignity. The matron, deputy and administrative and care staff have been professional, approachable and are dedicated to their individual roles. Nothing has been too much trouble and my mother is safe, well looked after and content. I have no hesitation recommending this care home.

My mother has been well looked after during this difficult time. The days I have been able to visit she has looked clean and had her hair permed by one of the staff who was also a hairdresser, fortunately as she has dementia she has not known what was going on. The staff are so kind to her and they still put on entertainments for the residents to try and keep things as normal as possible. I have nothing but praise and a big thank you to all the staff at Westhaven who have kept everyone safe and well.

Westhaven provided exceptional care to my father in the final days and hours and even to the very last minute of his life. From accomodating my father at short notice over one weekend to managing his health issues and his frustrations, the discovery of this care home was an answer to our prayers. From the leadership of the matron to the individual care provided, every member of staff showing compassion, respect and dignity - we cannot say thank you enough.

My aunt was in Westhaven for over three years. During that time, we felt the staff assessed her needs well and coped well with her idiosyncracies. During her last months, she was nursed well and we were treated with understanding. We did have issues with one member of staff but these were dealt with. We felt pain relief could have been better, but this was partly due to covid, restricting GP visits and so on.

During this time we had regular video calls so could chat to Mum and see how she was. It was clear that attentive care became genuinely loving during Covid. The staff were very vigilant, always contacting the GP about any changes and always let me know. As Mum approached the end of life we could visit once again. Fantastic care, support and friendship were extended to us too. We were with Mum as she slipped away peacefully in her fantastic final home, having experienced the best of care over 2.5 years.

Our lovely mum passed away in Westhaven after living there for the past 2 years. The care Mum received at the end of her life was amazing. Everyone who works in Westhaven, from the carers to the catering and domestic staff, all genuinely care for the residents. Mum was treated with dignity and compassion during her final days. The staff also gave tremendous help and support to our family during this difficult time. As a family we were able to spend time with Mum and say our goodbyes for which we are very grateful. I would recommend this wonderful place to anyone looking for a care home.
