Belong households represent a radically different alternative to conventional care homes, and operate with a higher-than-average staffing ratio and a maximum of 12 residents per household, offering a family atmosphere where customers can build lasting relationships with staff and other residents. My mother suffers from Vascular Dementia. She has been at Belong since September last year and I can honestly say that I can't think of anywhere that I would prefer her to be. The staff are like a second family to her and though I'm desperate to get in to see mum again, I know that she's in the best
place for her and that she's being looked after and loved.

I have been taking a friend to participate in the experience days for a number of months, and she has enjoyed a fantastic variety of activities. She is now staying in one of the houses, and it has been a massive change which she has found incredibly difficult to adjust. The dedication and care from
the staff have been outstanding and continues to be so particularly through such challenging times recently. I always feel welcome when visiting, and there is always someone who you can talk to if you have any queries even though they are incredibly busy caring for residents.

I cannot recommend or thank the staff at Belong who cared for my mother. Every single member from reception, to the nurses to her day to day carers to her key worker were brilliant.
I got to meet everyone during her last 2 weeks there. How they looked after her was amazing, but even more so was how
they looked after me as I stayed with her.
They treated me and my mother as if we were family. The care was catered for her needs, which I believe belonged not only her life but quality of life.
I cannot recommend this care home more.

We transferred my Father from a previous care home last April to Belong Macclesfield, where he spent the final months of his life being cared for at Holly House.
He gradually deteriorated over eleven months, but each step of the way he was cared for and his wishes were never questioned.
The staff
at Holly House also supported us as a family and had time to listen when we were anxious or upset.
It may be a cliche, but Belong Macclesfield are like an extended family. They work extremely hard to support all aspects of care for the elderly no matter the diagnosis and needs.
We put 100% trust in all the staff and they gave my Father and us 100% in return.
It’s been a week since my father’s death and I have no doubt that he was well cared for up until the moment he left Holly House to rest in peace.
The staff at Holly House will always have a special place in our hearts, they continually go above and beyond what is expected.

My wife needed to be placed in residential care at quite short notice, initially for a period of respite and Belong had been recommended to me. The process was quite stressful and I cannot praise the support and understanding given by the staff enough, helping us to get through the challenging transition.
The temporary placement for respite has now turned into a permanent one and my wife, although content, is still coming to terms with the fact she is not returning home. Once again, the support, care and understanding shown by the staff in managing that transition has been wonderful. Previous experience with care homes led to understandable preconceptions, pretty much of all of which have been proven wrong at Belong. With its household structure, it offers a very different environment that promotes a community existence rather than a more insular residential one and this creates a very different, livelier "feel". My thanks to all those who have helped my wife settle in.

My mother has been a resident at Belong Macclesfield for two years. Over this time her physical and cognitive functions have changed significantly but the staff at Belong have always treated her with utmost kindness and respect. Encouraging her to participate in as many of the activities as possible,
but mindful of her interests and personality. The household structure facilitates personalised care, staff consistency and a more homely atmosphere. I feel happy that my mother is being cared for with skill and dignity in the most appropriate environment for her needs.

I am very impressed by the care and support my friend has received whilst in Belong and the food and accommodation are very good. The entertainment is very impressive and there is not a dull moment as the staff provide a homely and welcoming feel to the household and to visitors and residents. There
is also continuity within the home and this is tailored to aspects of her care and I love coming to visit my friend in Holly House.

My husband sadly passed away recently after spending the last two years of his life as a resident in Beech House, Belong Macclesfield. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/vascular dementia in 2009 and sadly had to enter care in November 2017. My choice of Belong was never regretted. His care during the
last two years has been wonderful, caring, attentive and always given with love and dignity. The team in Beech cared for my husband so well and gave me peace of mind throughout. They were my friends too, often going above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you all.

The initial settling in of my mother in June 2018 was very upsetting and at the time I thought we could have done with more support. However, over the months we realised why the "settling in" stage is quite low key. The way the staff take care not to disrupt the household when sadly someone passes away
is remarkable. My Mother was so happy at Belong Macclesfield. Sadly it was only for a year. We, as a family, all enjoyed visiting and were really made to feel at home. I can't fault the whole process.

Have been involved as a family member with the resident of Belong Macclesfield for six years and find the service to be of a very high standard in sometimes very challenging circumstances. The Bistro area is an incredible asset to the care home in bringing inclusion to the residents and the local community.

Belong has a great set up with ‘houses’ containing approx 10 bedrooms with a shared kitchen and living area. The residents eat and spend time together in the houses, so they and the staff become familiar with each other and the house operates more like a loving family home than an institution.
The
staff are exceptionally kind and caring and take considerable care with residents and their families. I can’t speak highly enough of the care and support that they have given to Dad and how they have responded to his changing needs - including end of life care. Outstanding.

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff in Beech House and the outstanding way in which they have cared for my husband over the past year and more. All of them have gone out of their way to ensure he feels safe and secure and that his personal needs and interests - particularly his long held food
likes and dislikes - are respected and catered for. That each household has its own kitchen, situated adjacent to where many residents choose to sit, means that the familiar sights, sounds and smells associated with food preparation - the mixing and baking of puddings and cakes, peeling and chopping vegetables, making pizzas, cooking and carving the Sunday roast – can be enjoyed close up and on a daily basis. This highly valued ‘home from home’ arrangement, in which all staff take turns to cook, not only allows flexibility around the ‘what’ and ‘when’ of residents’ mealtimes, it also provides the perfect environment for staff and residents to interact in a routine, relaxed and easy manner.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the care my husband is receiving in the Beech House in Belong. I understand the aim is to present a family atmosphere but I believe it puts pressure on the staff who are employed as carers. Too much time is spent preparing and cooking food. That time would be better
spent with residents. I believe someone should be employed to do the vegetable preparations and the baking, leaving the carers to do their job. My concern is that, if a resident needs urgent attention, care is delayed because staff are peeling vegetables or baking cakes. I would appreciate management comments.

A strong recommendation from a colleague led to my initially exploring the Experience Days at Belong Macclesfield for my wife with advancing dementia. The positive experience convinced the family that this care home would fulfil our aspirations for a safe and caring end-of-life home. Then a 5-month
hospitalisation followed in a dementia assessment unit before my wife transferred to Holly House in Belong Macclesfield where her behavioural problems were initially quite challenging. The staff were simply outstanding in their empathy, patience, care and sensitivity, displaying a clear understanding and experience of the care required for such patients.

From the moment we entered the building, on our initial visit, it was clear that the staff were dedicated to giving my Mum the best care possible. Two of the senior managers took time out to sit with my Mum, answer her questions and assure her that they would take good care of her. From that Mum started
attending the Experience Days, initially once a week and then twice a week. The Engagement Day team have been great in helping her, providing company and support. Mum speaks very highly of them, the activities and of course the food and looks forward to each visit.

  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Cheryl

Cheryl Davies

Job Title: General Manager

Formerly a Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield, Cheryl has over 27 years of experience in a range of care sector roles. Her career with Belong spans over a decade, from when she joined as registered manager of its home care service, Belong at Home, which she helped establish in 2010.


As Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield, Cheryl shared knowledge and ideas with Belong villages in Crewe and Warrington as part of the organisation’s job swap scheme to improve group-wide standards of care, including industry-leading dementia care.


Cheryl’s perspectives on driving standards of care at multiple villages make her ideally qualified to be a General Manager. Her background, including helping to found Belong’s award-winning home care service, also gives her a particular understanding of many customers’ journeys, which often involve deciding to move to a Belong village after requiring domiciliary care.

Helen Marsden

Job Title: Support Manager

Helen is passionate about providing the best care to customers. Her career with Belong began after leaving school, nearly 20 years ago, initially with CLS Care Services before moving to Belong's flagship village in Macclesfield when it opened in 2007. Helen worked as a support worker and lead senior support worker, before progressing to the role of Support Manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme in 2020. She has achieved a Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and has recently completed qualifications in Leadership, Health and Social Care. More recently Helen moved back to into the role of Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield.

Nicola

Nicola Head

Job Title: Front of House Manager Joined: 2010

Nicola joined the Belong team as a Receptionist when Belong Macclesfield first opened in September 2007. She was soon appointed as an Administrator before being promoted to Senior Administrator and later to the Front of front-of-house manager role in 2010.


Nicola started her career in administration at a pharmaceutical company in Hertfordshire, before moving to Macclesfield in the summer of 1992, where she worked as a part-time carer/support worker in the community, for 14 years. She also worked as a self-employed mobile beautician (NVQ level 2 in Beauty and other holistic treatments) in her spare time.


Since working at Belong Nicola has qualified in Business/Administration NVQ Level 3, Team Leader NVQ Level 2 and more recently Advanced Level Apprenticeship Level 3 in Fine Line Management. Nicola also holds a BIIAB Level 2 Personal Licence Holder.


As part of the village management team, Nicola leads the front-of-house teams at Belong Macclesfield including, Reception and Administration, Housekeeping and Laundry, Catering, Salon and Caretaker.

Charlotte

Charlotte Jackson

Job Title: Village Nurse Manager

Charlotte has a bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing, with a background as a registered nurse for the NHS.


Working over two years at Macclesfield Hospital as a Transfer of Care Hub Sister within the discharge team, she brings her broad knowledge of supporting those living with dementia to this role, as well as a strong track record as a mentor.

Anna

Anna Seaton

Job Title: Experience Coordinator

A dedicated and caring individual, Anna initially joined the Experience Team as a Support Worker before being promoted to the Experience Co-ordinator role in 2023. Her objective is to promote wellbeing and quality for Belong Macclesfield’s residents, tenants and Experience Day customers through a vibrant and extensive range of events and opportunities.


She plans the village’s bi-monthly ‘What’s On’ programme, with activities reflecting the interests and wishes of our customers. Her role also encompasses building links with stakeholders in the community, including local schools and businesses, churches, music groups and a range of entertainers. This ensures that residents continue to have opportunities to meet new people and enjoy new experiences.

Karen

Karen Burgess

Job Title: Belong at Home Area Manager

Karen has worked in the care sector for 29 years starting as a Support Worker in a dementia unit. After 2 years Karen took up a position as a Community Support Worker for Social Services, working with vulnerable adults in the community. In 2009 she worked as a Senior for the Reablement team within Social Services assisting vulnerable adults to aim towards independence sourcing care and support when required.


After 21 years with Social Services, Karen joined Belong at Home as a Community Support Worker, quickly rising to Senior, and in 2016 became the Registered Manager for Belong at Home.
