Overall Experience

When mum first moved to Belong 3 years ago we were delighted with it. The location and physical building are good and the household arrangement. Mum has challenging behaviour and the staff attitude to this has at times been poor and lacking in respect, treating her as a naughty child. The behaviour includes unplugging her peg feed and the carpet is consequently stained on a weekly basis. Belong have been unwilling to replace with more suitable flooring. It has been difficult to get regular, good feedback from staff or manager but recently this has improved. Personal care has been variable.

I looked at many homes before I found Belong, after which I didn't need to look at any more - this was undoubtedly the best and I have not been disappointed. The care and attention to the individual residents is wonderful - as is the food- all personally made by each 'village' and my mother is always asked if she would like whatever they have prepared, and they discuss an alternative if she doesn't feel like it. It is expensive but money well spent to know my mother is being so well cared for.

I moved my friend from another home to Belong Macclesfield to be closer to where I live and also I had visited before. The move took place in November 2015, after 15 months as the other home. Thanks to the staff she has settled in very well. I think the household method of caring is very good with the staff are in constant touch with residents.

Overall Experience

My Mum has been attending Experience Days at Belong Macclesfield for the last 5 years or so. She has always enjoyed them and has come home happy and laughing! Unfortunately her dementia has got worse over the last 6 months and for her safety, Dad and I, decided it was time for her to move in permanently. As she was familiar with the surroundings and staff, it was a relatively smooth move (far more upsetting for us, than her) and she now has a lovely room with very experienced and kind staff looking after her. We know that she is safe. She still attends the experience days so is kept busy, and I visit whenever I want. Dad gets to visit regularly. He has the bonus of a lovely Sunday roast dinner when he visits her on a Sunday. They go to the Bistro together. All in all, I would definitely recommend this care home to anybody making the difficult decision to move a relative into permanent care.

Since my husband moved in permanently we have both been supported and looked after by the staff. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere is just right. The activities every day and attention of the staff keep my husbands mind stimulated. More than ever this is very good. The feeling in each "house" makes it feel like a family but there is always his own room if he needs it or we just want a quiet time together, very good.

A very loving and caring atmosphere which lately has been constrained by staff shortages. The food is not what elderly people need - we could do with a dietician to plan more interesting and digestible meals.

I have always felt happy with my mum being at Belong. The place is homely, relaxed, you are always made to feel welcome, you never feel that you've come at the wrong time.
The staff are, without exception, always friendly and welcoming - they genuinely care for my mum who, although deep in the throes of dementia, is always well kempt, dressed and most importantly, very happy and contented every time I visit.
I could/would've never imagined anywhere could be so caring, for the elderly as this place.

No-one wants to become old, needy, dependant; bit if this is my fate, one day; I would be happy to enter Belong as a resident.

Overall Experience

The staff are outstanding and the comfort and care second to none. Rooms are all en-suite and immaculately clean. The main lounge and kitchen area is open plan making it possible for residents to move around and join in with as much or as little as they would like. The general feeling of the place is very homely and much like a family environment. Mealtimes take place around a large table but if residents would rather eat in their own rooms or in the café/bistro with visiting family/friends then this is easily accommodated, nothing ever being too much trouble to staff. Daily activities take place upstairs for those who want to join in.

Sadly Mum passed away at the end of January 2016. Several staff members stayed on after their shifts had ended to sit with Mum in her final hours which was very touching and another mark of their dedication and care. We feel extremely grateful and reassured that Mum’s final days were happy and she really couldn’t have been better looked after.

Day Care:-

It was like a breath of fresh air and an enormous relief to speak to the Experience Day Co-ordinator at Belong Macclesfield who understood every aspect of dementia and the challenges it brings and we felt so reassured and confident we had found the right day care provider for Mum. Mum was collected from home daily and taken to Belong Macclesfield where she was kept entertained with many different activities from armchair keep fit and bowling to singing, craft making and gardening. The key being keeping Mum physically and mentally active whilst being sensitive to when she was feeling tired or anxious and dropping it down a gear to suit. We couldn’t have asked for anywhere better and the enthusiasm, understanding and caring nature of the Experience Day staff was outstanding. Mum returned home at the end of each day tired but happy and much less anxious, making it possible for Dad to continue caring for Mum at home for much longer than would have otherwise been possible.
