After taking care of my husband for several years I felt unable to manage any longer. He was taken into respite care at Bucklow Manor Care Home. He has now been taken into full time care and has settled in well. The process went very smoothly with input from social services. It was agreed that the time
was right. Fortunately there was a room available for him. This took a lot of pressure off me. I have found management and staff very helpful and respectful. It is warm and friendly.

My father in law went into Bucklow Manor for respite. From the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming friendly & proffesional. Nothing seems to much bother. The support given to service users is excellent & always treated with dignity. It is kept very clean, food looks lovely, and the activities
are amazing. Well done everyone for all you hard work. My father is hopefully staying permanantly!

When my husband had a downturn episode with his health I was immediately contacted.
The necessary medical professionals attended so quickly.
A new care plan was made and put into immediate effect.
I have always been happy with the care my husband has received and it's 21 months since he has been
at Bucklow Manor and the standard of care and communication is beyond my expectations.
The staff are angels and on the visits I get upset they care for me too.
I'm beyond thankful and I continue to have peace of mind that he is in the best of hands.

From my initial visit as I researched homes for my wife with dementia, I was impressed by the sense of family between residents and staff. I left that visit already knowing that my wife would be genuinely cared for.
I subsequently moved my wife in on 4th Nov and almost immediately knew it was the
right decision as I visited and got to know how the residents were treated with respect and humour. My wife is clearly happy and content.

My sister in law has been a resident for 14 months due to her dementia. The staff and carers are all excellent and we are always greeted with a warm hello and smile. My sister in law always appears clean, nicely dressed hair, nails, teeth cleaned. She tells me she is happy and enjoys spending time with
her new friends in the lounge, she enjoys the activities and the trips out! The well maintained garden provides beautiful outdoor space where residents can take leisurely strolls and simply relax.

Our Dad was admitted to Bucklow Manor post a hospital admission/5 week stay. Prior to that he lived independently in his own home with ongoing support from my sister and I. We enabled him to remain in his home of 68 years as best we could after Mum died in September 2022.
His deterioration during
the hospital admission was significant and it was clear from the MDT professionals report that he was unable to return home and live independently. It was a rapid and sad change of events for my sister and I and we feared the outcome for Dad.
The transition to Bucklow Manor however has been a positive experience from day one especially given the traumatic and sad demise over such a short period of time for Dad and a huge shift for us all. Dad was welcomed on his arrival by Franklin and we too were made welcome and reassured that Dad would be well cared for. Within a short time of his admission Dad was joining in with an exercise to music session. We thank you all for his care

I cannot speak highly enough of Bucklow Manor Care Home and the incredible team who work there. From the moment you walk through the doors, it's clear that this isn't just a place of care - it's a true home built on dedication, compassion, and commitment.
The staff at Bucklow Manor go above and beyond

Mum was a resident of Bucklow for 15 months after a stay in hospital. She had dementia and unfortunately had a number of falls. Initially she was not happy and wanted to go home (which sadly was not an option). The staff dealt with a difficult situation really well and Mum settled in after a week or
so. Bucklow is a very pleasant environment with the conservatories and the gardens to sit in. Mum's room was light and pleasant and had a nice view of the garden.
She enjoyed the activities and the staff really liked her. They put on a very nice party for her birthday and were always attentive and treated her very well. The staff were always in touch with me and very helpful with Mum's specific needs.

This home is so fantastic, the staff are so caring and understanding. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff go out of their way to make sure the residents are stimulated and entertained with lots of different activities. My husband is always presented in a very clean and hygenic manner. Considering
he is doubly incontinent I have never detected any impleasent odour when I give him a hug. Thanks should be given to the management for such a great service.

Myself and my husband were so worried about using anywhere for respite care, but, unfortunately we both knew that this was the way forward for us, and, as soon as we were greeted by everyone at Bucklow Manor Care Home we felt at ease. Our first visit was unannounced and we were greeted very warmly and
nothing was too much trouble. Within 30 minutes of being shown around, my husband said "I know I will feel comfortable here", which was quite overwhelming to hear, as we are a very close couple and have lived together 24/7 since retiring in 1998.
My husband has now completed two short respite stays at Bucklow Manor and has been very happy and comfortable both times, we would not entertain anywhere else, as the staff are just wonderful, I really feel as a loving wife that it is the only place other than my husband spending the odd day at home with family members that we feel is right for both of us. We convey our warmest and most loving thanks to all at Bucklow Manor for putting us at ease

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.931)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.931) out of 10 for Bucklow Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.931 for Bucklow Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (420 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 450 Ratings = 4.931
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bucklow Manor Care Home is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2016

I have worked in the care sector for 39 years, mainly with older people. I have worked for Springcare for nearly 9 years as the registered manager at Bucklow Manor. I have worked for numerous organisations over the years in different capacities, such as a senior support worker and healthcare assistant. I have been a registered home manager for 22 years. I am passionate about the continual improvement and growth of the services that I manage.

My hobbies are spending time with my family, holidays, and my beautiful French Bulldog, Princess Lulu.

I would say the best thing about being a registered manager is the diversity of the role and being able to give back to the older generation.

The one piece of advice I would give to someone starting their career in care is to take every day as it comes; every day is different
