Sharston House have been very proactive in dealing with my mother. They have supported her in maintaining her independence and living as full a life as possible as her health deteriorates. They always keep me informed as her daughter.

Very pleased with all the aspects of Mum's care. The staff were helpful at all times and obviously had had conversations as they know a lot of her history, where she lived etc. They were kind enough to wheel her outside for her nightly cigar and a tot of her whisky.

Sharston House is a comfortable, happy and safe environment for our relative. She has been a resident for almost seven years. The Nursing team are well led by the manager and work well together. They are caring and support relatives. The food, decor and wonderful activities team ensure the residents are kept busy and happy. Residents are treated with dignity and empathy. Relatives are welcomed and encouraged to take part in activities.

The resident in question had an extremely infected toe, necrotic, which needed a lot of attention. New dressings every other day, pain killers and antibiotics. The worry was the possibility of septicaemia.
Thankfully due to the excellent care of the nursing staff, the local GP and the carers, the toe is completely healed and the threat of a serious infection has diminished.

Thank you to the team.

Overall Experience
Mother was settled and happy at Sharston House once she got over the shock of Dad’s sudden death and the need for her to go into care.
She liked her room, which was important since she was bedridden.
She enjoyed the food and the home usually managed to adapt it to her needs e.g. pureeing some things or leaving off a sauce which she did not like.
She was a fussy eater, a creature of habit and her condition could make her cranky so the home did very well in largely managing to accommodate her needs and quirks.
She did establish a deeper relationship with a few of the staff she particularly liked and her overall care was good.

On what I saw and experienced, I would recommend the home.

Sorry, not 100% positive about food - my taste-buds seem to have been affected by happenings...sorry chef! One suggestion I have, a more direct way of communicating with management/nursing staff. Care staff are so busy with so many different people with so many problems) Just an observation which may be helpful. The smiling, attentive, personal care given by all the staff bounces off the walls and creates a happy, friendly atmosphere! Thank you to you all! Love and laughter.

Generally pleased with cleanliness and friendliness. Good variety of activities and entertainments. Mum took a while to settle. It would help if a) staff all wore name badges b) introductory booklet or leaflet would help with general routine i.e. mealtimes, laundry, hairdresser etc. c) fluid intake could be better monitored. Mum often let her tea get cold, then removed by staff. She didn't like water in the jug, so often didn't drink enough.

Sharston House has a homely atmosphere, friends and family are made to feel very welcome. The standard of care is very good on the whole, the carers and nursing staff are very responsive to any questions regarding care provision. The food is of a very good, nutritional standard, paying particular attention to individual dietary needs. The home provides a varied programme of entertainment and activities, providing stimulation for all the residents and their families. The home offers very good value for money providing a high standard of care.

We are fairly satisfied with Sharston House.
I appreciate it's a demanding job but to us, this is my dad, so to us, he is very special.
-Buzzing the bell, help does not always appear.
-Clothes have gone missing.

-A couple of members of staff not too keen on.

My late mother stayed at Sharston House during the last four months of her life. She has been in two previous care homes which she did not like. However, the move to a proper nursing home was the best move, we the family, made. The staff at Sharston House are super professional and caring and my mum loved it there. The management too are super caring and professional. I fully recommend Sharston House to anyone who needs 24/7 care.

My mother, at 96, has had a new lease of life here. The activities are wonderful and she has done more here than in the last decade. My brothers and I know she is being looked after really well, and are so happy to have complete peace of mind. The staff are exceptional. The place really feels like home from home. We have already recommended it a number of times to others looking for care.

Own room really nice after 16 days in a hospital ward, which was very noisy. Minor negatives were almost perpetual "alarm beeps" and on occasions, a neighbour, presumably hard of hearing, with the radio turned up. Food was good and varied. Staff were excellent. Very helpful and cheerful.
