Went to visit my godmother today who is at this home on respite care following a fractured pelvis. She has been in the home for 11 days so far. In this time, she has not had a shower or a bath! She was promised twice that she could have one, but the carer never returned to her. The lady in the next
room to her had the same problem. I was genuinely shocked and requested to a carer that this be addressed. Her room was so small that the arm chair was placed in front of the wardrobe so that she is unable to open it. She had no bedside light so had to turn off the room light by the door and then forage about in the dark for the bed for the first few days before she was given a light.
When I suggested a different layout to the room, the carer told me that the maintenance man was on sick leave so it couldn't be done. The one positive thing she had to say was that the food was very good. Thank heavens for small mercies.

Despite a somewhat dated building, the quality of care provided by the staff has been excellent. All the staff have responded quickly and been polite to requests for information or elements of care. A warm and friendly place I would recommend.

Since arriving at the home in December 2015, there have been some changes due to new management. My experience has been primarily positive. The nursing, caring, kitchen and maintenance staff are mainly receptive to requests. Monitoring of residence, intake of food and liquid has been introduced. Communication
with my mother can vary from good to poor depending on the individual staff. A regular meeting between management and residents family/friends is a positive move.

My Mother had to go into a care home at short notice, she was not well and very confused. We were so fortunate to find a super one at the first attempt. It ticked all our boxes; it was beautifully clean and appeared to be well run. However, it was the quality of the excellent staff that impressed
us most. When she moved in everyone worked really hard to ensure that they got to know Mum, her needs and wants and this certainly helped her settle in easily. We Cannot praise them highly enough. Without exception, they are polite and helpful and it is clear that they enjoy the company of the residents. To sum up, this home is exactly what it says - a home.

My Mother has been a resident for the last month and suffers from dementia, it is our first time having a member of the family with dementia or in a care home. Our experience so far has been first rate, the food sometimes mum turns her nose up but the staff are all very friendly and treat mum with
the utmost respect that she deserves at nearly 93. She is very well cared for, so please keep up the great work!
Many thanks
John Selby.

My mother is a resident at Sharston House. She is well looked after by friendly efficient staff who remember her personal likes and dislikes, ours too!
Mum has vascular dementia and can be difficult to care for at times but I have no qualms about their commitment to care for her in an appropriate
manner, with compassion.
The home is bright, clean and comfortable with lots of outside space.
I would have no problem in recommending Sharston House to any prospective resident.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.753 for Sharston House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (415 Excellents x 5) + (107 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 534 Ratings = 4.753
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sharston House Nursing Home is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
