Hope House is a purpose-built nursing home in Clayton Le Moors, Accrington. Situated opposite Mercer Hall Park, the home is just a stone’s throw from local shops and facilities. Residents generally require residential or nursing care.

Hope House has a total of 38 tastefully decorated bedrooms, many of which are ensuite. The homely environment includes a conservatory which residents use as a quiet lounge, two comfortable TV lounges - one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor plus, a spacious ground floor dining room. There is also a landscaped rear patio garden which is fully accessible.

The team at Hope House are passionate about delivering the very best of person-centred care. They gather details and information from those who know the resident best. They communicate with families on a regular basis to ensure that care plans are up to date, and the important finer details are recorded to reflect personal wishes.

All residents are welcome to join in with the resident programme of activities or are supported to enjoy pastimes of their own choice. Of course, birthdays are celebrated as well as other special days in the year, as well as coffee mornings, afternoon tea and active, planned social activity sessions.
Residents' friends and family members are welcome at any time and are welcome to join in the activities of the home.

Everyone at Hope House is respected as an individual and therefore the team understand that everyone’s needs, and preferences are different.

The Head Chef prepares three nutritious meals a day and the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce. Food is a big part of everyday life at Hope House, from the cooked breakfast that is offered, to the choice of meals at lunchtime and a teatime, with the snacks in between and supper.

I find this home (Hope House) excellent in every way it conducts itself. Staff are very helpful. The personal attention they give to my mother is excellent. The condition of the place itself is very good. It is a very well run place in all aspects - credit to management and staff.

My wife has been in various care homes over the last year. Plus, with spells in hospitals. She is at present doing quite well and settled.

My Mum has lived at Hope House since 2010, that is how long they have been promising to replace the windows. Thye have a lovely view of the park from the lounge but the glass is so bad you cannot see through it. My Mum's bedrooms windows are the same. The outside of the home looks scruffy and unloved.
It should be lovely with good views of the park as most residents don't go out. It looks very depressing from the inside. The then manager said the money was ready in January.

Many thanks for your feedback on Hope House, the plans for the windows to be replaced are being addressed and this was identified by us as a new provider when we acquired the home recently.

I feel so happy to have found this lovely place for my sister. I was delighted she asked to stay after her 6 week trial period. Everyone is so wonderful to her, the staff and the manager can't do enough for her. She loves the food and looks forward to meal times sitting with her 2 new friends at their
table. Above all, she feels safe from falling and her alarm bell is just by her side at night in her bed. I live a long way from here, near Southampton and when I leave here to go home, I will leave happy in the knowledge she's happy here!

I enjoy my care at Hope House, the manager is very loving and caring, the carers are brilliant, also the nurses. Nothing is too much trouble, the cleanliness all over is very good, and my needs are cared for when required. The food is good overall, in fact, I would tell everyone who needs care and respite
will get the best service in the world!

My mum spent 2 weeks at this nursing home.
I was very disappointed at the care she received. The home smelt of urine and when I went to visit my mum she had no underwear on and her hands were covered in her faeces.
I would not recommend this nursing home to anyone.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.446)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.446) out of 10 for Hope House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.546 for Hope House is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.546

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hope House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
