9.8 The Old Vicarage Nursing & Residential Care Centre has a Review Score of 9.8 (9.787)

The Review Score of 9.8 (maximum of 10) for The Old Vicarage Nursing & Residential Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Old Vicarage Nursing & Residential Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.787 for The Old Vicarage Nursing & Residential Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (287 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 347 Ratings = 4.787

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage Nursing & Residential Care Centre is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12 positive Reviews (60 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 25 Reviews ÷ 12 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I have total confidence in the care provided to my husband. He is now at the stage where he needs help or care with most aspects of personal care and hygiene. The help is given with patience and respect, and in many cases, real gentleness. There is not a high staff turnover and many regular staff who really understand my husband and his ways. The food is very good and wholesome, most of it home prepared and cooked. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, but the staff are the stars!!!

Thank you very much for such a positive review about the care and services at The Old Vicarage and The Willows Care Home. Your comments will do much to give confidence to those families searching for care for a loved one. Kind regards

Having made the decision to place my dad in a care home and move him from one area or another, closer to me, I knew that I had made the right choice in The Old Vicarage from day one. All the staff are dedicated, kind, considerate and caring to all residents regardless of the reasons behind their residency.
The Old Vicarage is the "residents home" and not a place of work, the evidence of which I see in my dad each time I visit. He looks so well cared for and has started to smile again!!

My father has been at The Old Vicarage Nursing and Residential Care Centre for 18 months now and I don't think he could be in better hands.
He isn't one for joining in with activities but the two activities girls always try to find ways of getting him to do things. The staff are always having a laugh and a joke with him. I think because of this he is as settled as he can be in his condition.

Excellent care and service from all concerned, both to our aunty and particularly to my wife who is struggling to deal with two very poorly relatives currently and an only child.
The whole experience has been flawless from our first introduction and to being straight with needs and health care issues. The staff are genuine and dedicated, truly lovely people.

My Aunty is a resident following a massive stroke and right from the start we were treated well.
The staff, management and administrator were very accommodating and they attend to our concerns as family members equally as they look after her with love, affection and dignity.
She responds to their care and knows their commitment and genuine care for her individual needs.

Thank you for taking the trouble to review The Old Vicarage. This is a home which really takes the time and trouble to 'go the extra mile' for all of their residents and I am so pleased that both the holiday and the bedroom 'makeover' were a resounding success! Kind regards

My nan has been at The Old Vicarage for around a year give or take.
It's always such a pleasure to visit. The home prides itself on being friendly. There is a lot of lighthearted banter from the minute you walk through the door.
They are always looking for something different to do. The recent garden competition has been great fun. The staff are so competitive and "house proud". It had us all laughing. My favourite debate of the year has definitely been the Yankee candle flavours....sorry ladies but the ginger one did smell like curry haha.
Because of the friendliness of the staff, we always feel at ease when discussing my nan's care and know that she is in safe, competent hands. This is not a care home....it is a "HOME". You should all be proud.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to send a review and mentioning a few of the small things which come together to make this home stand out as a real 'home from home'. The team at the home care about the smallest of things which will make the daily lives of our residents more enjoyable and the popularity of the home is a testament to the hard work, care and commitment of all who work at the home. Kind Regards

My uncle came to the care home 2 years ago and the difference in his quality of life is unbelievable! He has enjoyed a holiday, a garden competition and even Harbourfest. Forget V Festival for the young, the home actually put on a music festival for the residents. I feel like my uncle has a new lease on life thanks to the dedication of the staff, the love and care he receives on a day to day basis is beyond any expectations. The home is friendly, warm and the minute we walked in, we knew this was the home for my uncle.

When my brother was admitted initially and for some time afterwards, I was sometimes disappointed by certain aspects of the care home (laundry problems, articles of my brother's clothing going missing, lack of attention to his personal grooming etc) For some time now, however, I have noticed significant and encouraging improvement in the way the home is run and in its general ambience, as well as in the care that my brother receives. I would like to thank the management and staff or their continuing efforts.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to review our home. The points you raise are valid and demonstrate how when a new resident moves into a care environment, it takes a while to get to know and put in place the smallest details of care. By working with both residents and families we are able to perfect and deliver a bespoke personal care service which meets every one of our resident's wishes, no matter how small. The aim is always to keep our residents and their families happy and I am reassured to know that you are able to see the efforts which all of the home team make to ensure that this is so. Kind regards

The care my mum receives here is excellent. The nurses and carers always treat her with care, compassion and dignity. The care shown to the family is also excellent. The nurses always take the time to keep you informed of mums condition, treatment and participation in events, they are always warm and welcoming.
The staff took time and an interest in finding out about who mum is and was so they can engage her, talking with her about her interests and people who are important to her.
Even ensuring she has birthday cards for families birthdays, which means so much.
I am so pleased that mum is at this care home and getting the very best of care.

I find the staff to be fantastic with my Nana. The staff are; open, honest and truthful. My Nana seems happy and content at The Vicarage. As Family members, we are always made to feel welcome and often chat with the staff, whilst they are helping my nana (Nana enjoys having conversations with them whilst they are caring for her). The staff are quick to answer/respond to any concerns we raise. I would say the activities that are provided are excellent but I would prefer more activities than currently. I have made a suggestion so all residents can watch a TV in the communal lounge and I fully trust this will be considered. I fully trust The Old Vicarage with the care of my Nana.

My father has been a resident of The Willows within The Old Vicarage for just over a month, having been transformed from another home at the start of March 2017. The move went smoothly and my father settled in well. Before deciding on The Old Vicarage, I visited several care homes and this facility suited my father's needs and requirements the best. On my first visit (unannounced on a weekend evening) I was very impressed with the care home. The staff were friendly, helpful, informative and nothing was too much trouble. After watching the staff interacting with the residents, I had no reservation in putting my father's name down for a place at The Willows.
In the intervening period between expressing an interest and the move, the management team at the home were brilliant, keeping us informed of room availability and adjusting on likely timescales. As my father's vascular dementia continues apace, I have no doubt that we made the right decision and have no hesitation in recommending The Old Vicarage

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to share your experience regarding the move of your father to The Old Vicarage for his care and comfort. The home is lead by a strong and committed team and their desire to deliver the best of care and living experience is picked up by the dedicated staff team. Your experience, I am sure, will give comfort to others looking for care at the home. Thank you again and kind regards.

My brother has been here for several years now.
The carers and entertainment staff have got to know him well and have a lovely rapport with him, laughing at his dry sense of humour which lightens the darker side of life in a dementia home.
Not only do they care for him but they are always there for us, understanding the pain we go through and offering support when needed.
The current management and staff always find time to speak and I know I can approach them at any time about any concerns I may have with the knowledge that they will listen and do something about it.
The home itself is always clean and bright with a friendly atmosphere.

Everyone at the home tries so hard to make a real difference to the lives of our residents and it is great that this is recognised by family members. Kind regards

My father has been a resident at The Old Vicarage Nursing and Residential Care Centre for 18 months and the care he receives is consistently excellent. The staff are so caring to the residents, my dad's health is closely monitored and I am kept well informed. Meals and snacks are good quality and plentiful. The rooms are clean and tidy and my dad is always clean and nicely dressed. I have no hesitation in recommending The Old Vicarage and I am completely happy with the choice I made for my beloved dad's care. Appropriate and stimulating activities take place on a daily basis by a committed and caring coordinator.

We could not be more delighted at the care provided by the team here. No matter what time we visit, there is always supervision of the residents. They are all dressed and clean. The general ambience is calm and the love and kindness, together with respecting the dignity of the residents is clearly evident. The little touches are also there e.g. giving hand massage and moisturiser after cutting nails. The staff all have a sense of humour and are compassionate towards the residents and their families. This home is truly a home and a wonderful place to be.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to review our home. The staff team work very hard to welcome new residents and we are glad to hear that new residents are able to settle so well. I am sure that you know, but should you ever have a comment regarding the care or other services in the home, please let the team aware as they will do all they can to ensure that both residents and families are happy. Kind regards

The staff are all nice and caring but we need more staff and staff training. Clothes go missing all the time, and we don't know where they go. Sometimes they end up in other residents rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Old Vicarage. You have highlighted an issue concerning laundry and I would urge you to go and speak to the staff who will be more than happy to help you. Occasionally there is the issue that clothing items which are very similar are not returned to their rightful owners, but we do all we can to ensure that this does not happen. We ask that all clothing is labelled. The laundry rooms are organised in such a way to ensure that everyone has laundered items returned to them in room numbered baskets but despite the best will in the world, and a laundry team which is very used to running the service very smoothly, very occasionally, something may have been returned in error to the wrong person. We apologise if this has happened and we will do all we can to help identify any missing item, so please speak to the team who care for your loved one and they will be more than happy to help. Thank you again for reviewing the home and we hope that you will do so again in the future and comment again on the service. Kind Regards.

Recently I found myself looking around for a care home for my dad having looked at a few you get a feel for the type of home you have in your head and how you would like your loved ones cared for, this for me was by far the best with its modern décor and its really bubbly staff that like a good genuine laugh and a joke with the residents and engaging with them. I go in most days even taking my black Labrador in who gets made a big fuss off, it's great to see my dad smiling again as he went through a period of not being well and losing the interest in a lot of things, this place gets a big thumbs up from me, so to all the staff keep up the good work.

My Mother in Law has ongoing health issues. The staff give regular updates by phone. They keep me well informed. I can't praise the staff enough for the ongoing care she receives.

The care provided is second to none. You are made welcome from the second you walk through the door to the minute you leave. The staff are very friendly and approachable and the place is so homely.
The home has started to have a refurbishment and is looking fantastic....Lets hope the good work continues!

My uncle is treated with dignity and respect by all members of staff and I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Vicarage.

Thank you everyone.

Thank you very much for your wonderful review, I am sure the Home Manger and her team will be very pleased to know that their hard work is appreciated. Kind Regards

I am extremely happy with all aspects of care my grandfather gets from exceptional food (and the encouragement to eat!) to personal care my grandad receives. Each member of staff has bonded with him and knows who he is and his character. They are very good at communicating any concerns with us. Most importantly my grandad has dignity, he always is clean, well dressed and cared for. I think this is a wonderful nursing home. I would recommend this to anyone seeking excellent care for their loved one! (I could go on with about all they do!)
