The staff at Florence Mill Care Home have made my mum feel comfortable, safe and secure.
They take great pride in making Florence Mill a ‘home’ away from home and treat their guests with dignity, respect and understanding.

I’ve not seen my mum sing in years!

I would like to write this review as a big thank you to the staff of Waterside, Florence Mill Care Home.
They work so hard and it doesn't go unnoticed how they have helped my mum over the past years. It has been a difficult few years but I take some comfort that they do their very best for her and accommodate her needs.

Thank you again, the staff of Waterside.

After being assessed as requiring residential care, my father was placed wrongly on a dementia unit when all he needed was help with mobility and personal care. His mental health suffered and I moved him after a week. In the 7 days he was there he was moved several times. Very badly managed.

Due to Covid restrictions and my husband only just becoming a resident. I have not been into Waterside House, however, all the staff I have met both inside and outdoors are all very friendly, helpful, cheerful and kind.

My aunt is living on Brook House at Birch Court Care Home. They do an amazing job. My aunt is well cared for, they show her kindness and they treat her like she is one of their own family. The staff always have smiles on their faces even though it's such a difficult time during Covid. The house manager is wonderful always happy, smiling and polite and always very helpful. He deals with queries or worries very efficiently and he has put my mind at rest in the past. I know my aunt must be missing her family but shes in the best place. I would recommend Birch Court to anyone looking for a care home.

I am very pleased with the loving care my mother has received in Birch Court Care Home. The staff has gone above and beyond to make Mum's stay as comfortable as possible. I can not thank them enough as we are all going through these bad times at the moment. It is a comfort to myself knowing Mum is being taken care of. Thank you.

Dad moved in approximately 4 weeks ago and over this time has started to settle in well. He is blind and lacks capacity and so needs constant care. The social interaction with care staff is critical for what is left of his quality of life and I am delighted with how he is enjoying his chats. The home is clean and the food is very good and this is a huge relief for us after caring for him at home for two years.

I cannot recommend Birch Court nursing home more highly, especially all the staff in Moss House who took care of my father in his final weeks. Staff are caring, compassionate and take the time to get to know the residents. My father was cared for with dignity and respect. I cannot thank them enough. Truly wonderful and caring people.

I was very concerned about my husband going into a care home, but after the first weeks, I realised this is the best place for him to be. The staff are wonderful, caring and friendly and also happy to help with any concerns. Birch Court gives me peace of mind knowing that my husband is well cared for and well-fed (he loves his food).

Due to a rapid deterioration in my dad's illness, we required a week's respite whilst we made appropriate arrangements at home at short notice. A very difficult time for us as it was not what he or we wanted. All the staff were kind, caring and compassionate. My dad was cared for with dignity and kindness. The staff tried hard to encourage him to eat and drink and offered a range of anything they could provide to support this. They also stored his preferred drinks and ice lollies for us in the fridge/freezer.

The environment was clean and tidy and the food I did see looked appetising with a good choice. The nursing care was excellent. As a family, we ask a lot of questions and asked the nurses to sort out some issues with the GP. Each request was dealt with in a supportive and timely manner. Although it may seem a small thing, the lovely comments a nurse made that she could see how well my mum had been caring for my dad really touched us and certainly will stay with Mum. Thank you.

After visiting several care homes for dementia nursing requirements the family chose Birch Court.

We are extremely satisfied with our choice that our wife/mother is being really well looked after. This staff's care and dignity they provide is excellent. All aspects of accommodation, activities and food for specific requirements are well catered for. We would not hesitate in recommending Birch Court.

Hello, my name is Kat, and I am delighted to introduce myself as one of the Registered Home Managers at Florence Mill Care Home.

As a qualified nurse with many years of experience caring for others, it has always been at the heart of what I do. I feel incredibly proud to work in a home where kindness, dignity, and compassion are so highly valued. I have worked in the care sector for 8 years, supporting older people with a range of care needs, and throughout my career, I have always believed that every resident deserves to feel safe, respected, and truly at home.

For me, a care home is much more than a place to live — it should be a place where people feel comfortable, valued, and able to enjoy life in the way that matters most to them. I believe in taking the time to get to know each resident as an individual: learning about their interests, routines, preferences, and life stories so we can provide care that is personal and meaningful.

As Home Manager, my priority is to create a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel happy and supported, families feel reassured, and staff feel proud to provide the highest standard of care. I am passionate about building a strong sense of community and ensuring every person living here feels listened to and included.

Whether you are considering care for yourself or someone close to you, I understand that choosing a care home is an important decision. My team and I are here to answer any questions, offer support, and help make the process as comfortable as possible.

I look forward to welcoming you to Florence Mill and showing you everything our wonderful home has to offer.

I am a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse with over 15 years of diverse clinical experience in both the Philippines and the UK. My nursing career began in 2009 as a Nurse in the Philippines, where I developed strong foundations in outpatient care, health education, and preventive medicine. I also served as a Nurse in a corporate occupational health setting before relocating to the UK in 2019.

Since moving to the UK, I have steadily progressed in the adult social care sector – working as a Registered Nurse, Unit Manager, Clinical Lead, and most recently stepping into the role of Home Manager at Florence Mill Care Home in March 2025. In these roles, I have gained extensive experience in care planning, team leadership, and quality improvement. My leadership journey reflects a strong commitment to person-centred care, staff development, and operational excellence. I am passionate about providing high-quality, person-centred care and creating a supportive environment for both residents and staff.
