Staff work very hard to look after residents which is very difficult with all their different problems.

Had a special birthday to celebrate recently and staff were very helpful.

My father was a resident for the last three years and my mother for one year (2015) Both were cared for in Fern Unit. The care they both received was outstanding. The kindness and care shown were wonderful to see. The staff are hardworking, patient and genuinely caring, treating residents like one of their own. I highly recommend Fern Unit nursing and care staff.

I feel that the care home is lacking in staff. Also, breaks should be split so there are at least two carers in the lounge at one time.
Also, this is a very vulnerable unit and should have more carers on Waterside House.

No security at all - my grandson had his motorcycle taken in broad daylight. Security must be a priority for all!

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this allows us to improve our service where required. We were sorry to hear of the theft of a family member’s motorcycle, however, unfortunately, as with most car parks, vehicles are left at the owner's risk. Our home is staffed according to...

My mum went into the Waterside Unit in Birch Court in August 2015 when she was in a bad way, since then she has come on fantastically. She now eats on her own and has calmed down a lot. She interacts with the staff and other residents alike. She has put on nearly 2 stone in weight which was needed, she was skin and bones because she refusing to eat. The staff are wonderful, patient and kind, so I would strongly recommend the Waterside Unit. Thank you so much from myself and the rest if my mum's family.

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the carers, nurses and managers of the residents in Fern House, who recently looked after our Dad during a two month stay. There was always a friendly atmosphere and myself and my family were made to feel very welcome when visiting. Thank you for looking after him so well. If the need ever arose again, I would be confident of his care in your hands.

The care home has now purchased comfortable new chairs for the residents in the lounge and dining area. The lounge and hallways are much improved following the recent refurbishment, nice and clean. The staff work really hard and the improved environment is better for all!

Hello, my name is Kat, and I am delighted to introduce myself as one of the Registered Home Managers at Florence Mill Care Home.

As a qualified nurse with many years of experience caring for others, it has always been at the heart of what I do. I feel incredibly proud to work in a home where kindness, dignity, and compassion are so highly valued. I have worked in the care sector for 8 years, supporting older people with a range of care needs, and throughout my career, I have always believed that every resident deserves to feel safe, respected, and truly at home.

For me, a care home is much more than a place to live — it should be a place where people feel comfortable, valued, and able to enjoy life in the way that matters most to them. I believe in taking the time to get to know each resident as an individual: learning about their interests, routines, preferences, and life stories so we can provide care that is personal and meaningful.

As Home Manager, my priority is to create a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel happy and supported, families feel reassured, and staff feel proud to provide the highest standard of care. I am passionate about building a strong sense of community and ensuring every person living here feels listened to and included.

Whether you are considering care for yourself or someone close to you, I understand that choosing a care home is an important decision. My team and I are here to answer any questions, offer support, and help make the process as comfortable as possible.

I look forward to welcoming you to Florence Mill and showing you everything our wonderful home has to offer.

I am a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse with over 15 years of diverse clinical experience in both the Philippines and the UK. My nursing career began in 2009 as a Nurse in the Philippines, where I developed strong foundations in outpatient care, health education, and preventive medicine. I also served as a Nurse in a corporate occupational health setting before relocating to the UK in 2019.

Since moving to the UK, I have steadily progressed in the adult social care sector – working as a Registered Nurse, Unit Manager, Clinical Lead, and most recently stepping into the role of Home Manager at Florence Mill Care Home in March 2025. In these roles, I have gained extensive experience in care planning, team leadership, and quality improvement. My leadership journey reflects a strong commitment to person-centred care, staff development, and operational excellence. I am passionate about providing high-quality, person-centred care and creating a supportive environment for both residents and staff.
