Westvale House is situated within the Sankey Valley Park area of Warrington in Cheshire. It is a purpose-built care home for older people that require residential and general nursing care. In addition they provide end of life/ palliative care and care for young people with physical disabilities. The home is set in beautifully landscaped gardens with outdoor seating and easy access from all downstairs lounges.

A team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. And their dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and organising activities.

The team are also very keen to promote a home from home atmosphere recognising that this is the residents' home and they want them to feel relaxed and comfortable and safe. They offer a wide range of activities, have regular entertainment and really encourage families to get involved. They recently had a group of relatives help in the garden as well as attending a relative focus group.

My dad has been in Westvale Care Home for just over a year, prior to him moving into the home he had a lengthy stay in hospital where he was told that he could not go back to his house and we needed to look for a care home for him. As traumatic this was for the family on viewing Westvale for the first
time we knew this was the place for him. Westvale is bright, airy, smells clean and fresh as you walk in, dads room with en-suite is small but homely and is always kept tidy by the staff. All of the staff are polite, respectful and literally can't do enough for you. The kitchen staff work so hard to provide a variety of hot and cold food available. Dad doesn't really join in with the activities, however there is a weekly programme of activities to try and bring the residents together. Dad has settled in so well and I want to say Thank You to everyone involved in running the home.
Reply from Denise Henry, Home Administrator at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide us with this feedback. Glad you feel we provided good quality care for Dad and also the feedback relating to our life enrichment programme is so helpful for future residents and much appreciated ass this is very important at Westvale. My dad only moved in last week and he is settling in well. I am so happy that the manager assessed and accepted dad so quickly. I can't thank her enough
The staff are so caring and professional and my dad is so well looked after. Dad says the staff are lovely everyday I visit which is most days
It
was so nice to see dad on their social media page up dancing like my old dad it's just wonderful

I can't thank everybody enough

Adas care at Westvale House has been excellent overall. She has been treated with dignity and kindness by all members of staff admin, nursing, carers, activity coordinators and laundry/kitchen staff perse.
The only time we have raised concerns is when new carers or bank staff are undergoing training
initially especially at weekends. However senior carers are very quick to rectify any issues on Adas behalf and have treated family with respect.
Nursing care and the homes GP are excellent in implementing and changes required smoothly. Her 100th birthday party was memorable for all Adas family. Thank you.
Reply from Denise Henry, Home Administrator at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you Lynda for the lovely comments. Ada was truly a special person and glad you all felt was treated with dignity and respect. Once again thank you for taking the time especially at this sad time to review the home. This feedback is so important to us. Best wishes from us all at Westvale

Just want to thank all the members of staff from management to carers, activities team, kitchen staff etc for all the help that they have given mum during her stay at Westvale. They have been very supportive and helpful when things have got difficult for us and tried to guide us with the best way forward.
Nurses have also given us support with what are mum is experiencing. through her life physically and mentally Even thoguh mum is receiving respite we don't feel like we are being pressured or rushed to make any final decisions.
Reply from Denise Henry, Home Administrator at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you so much for reviewing. We are here to help best we can and glad you feel supported as we understand this is a difficult time for families. It's important for the family and for Mum. Feedback is very important to us here at Westvale and we appreciate this.

I can not thank the team at Westvale House enough, my mum is bed bound but this does not prevent them from including her in the fun and entertainment. But also, it is the care they give. My mum recently had a bizarre episode when - for no reason - her blood sugar suddenly dropped to a dangerous 1.2,
but your team were there in the middle of the night, discovered what was happening and got her the medical attention and assistance needed to bring her back and literally save her life. By the time I saw her the next day, she was glowing, telling us of her "adventure" and how "pampered" she felt from the care she was being given - thank you, thank you all. Just thank you.

Overall, I am happy with the level of care that mum receives here. All the carers are really lovely and treat mum very well. I have no complaints at all concerning mum's treatment.
The only slight criticism is that I think the activities could be improved.
Reply from Denise Henry, Home Administrator at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you for your valuable feedback. With now having the new activities lead and assistant onboard and settled you should find the activities improve. Once again thank you

Westvale always do their best to care for and keep their charges entertained. Most of the staff go above and beyond to care for the residents. Carers try very hard, kitchen staff are excellent always. Westvale is now under new management and seems approachable and more than capable of improving the
day to day running quickly. Nurses always courteous and helpful.

This is a very caring home and they try their best to accommodate the needs of my dad.
At the time of review there is a lot of new staff which is goof as they have been short staffed, but it does take time for new staff to settle into their roles and get to know the residents well. All staff are very
welcoming to visitors of residents. Activities for residents could be better at the moment.
Reply from Kirsty Hinton, Client Relationship Manager at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write us a review, it means so much to us and provides guidance for prospective new residents and families. The team are always happy and welcoming of visitors into the home and it is great to hear this recognised. We are also pleased to share that our newly recruited Activities Co-ordinator has been in her role for a few months now, she has been spending time getting to know our Residents meaning the life enrichment and activities in the home is steadily getting back on track. Thank you for your patience during this transition.

Barchester Westvale House Care Home is a purpose-built, friendly care home which is extremely clean. The care staff are amazing and go above and beyond to ensure that all residents are cared for in a warm and friendly environment. Residents are offered a variety of home-cooked, nutritious, tasty dishes
from the daily menu. Hospitality offers a variety of daily activities to keep residents minds active. You can visit a resident any time, day/night, always greeted with a smile. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Westvale feels like a home from home which makes such a difference. I have had a few niggles along the way but these have been addressed and resolved quickly. My dad's en-suite room is extremely comfortable, bright and airy. Relatives decided to set up a gardening club, residents join in helping us make the grounds look lovely during the summer months. We are like one large family, all helping each other which creates a lovely atmosphere.

After a lengthy hospital stay, we were so pleased that my dad was able to gain a place at Barchester Westvale House Care Home. He moved in within two days of being offered a place and the staff have been amazing, getting to know him and taking care of him. Nothing seems like too much trouble for the
kind and friendly staff and management. Although his appetite is not what it once was, he is enjoying the food and his room is light and airy. We are very pleased with the care shown so far. Thank you.

So very grateful to have found such a lovely, welcoming home for my dad to have regular respite stays.
Upon my first viewing, I knew this was the right place for us.
My dad's en-suite bedroom was so comfortable, bright and airy.
Every time I rang him during his stay he was always upbeat and full
of praise for all staff members.
He would complement the food he'd had and said how well he had slept.
I can't thank everyone enough for making my dad's stay perfect for him.
My dad is booked to stay again while I go on holiday in October and both of us are so pleased that he is able to go back there.
Many thanks to all.

My sister moved into Barchester Westvale House Care Home in January this year after her care home was closed down. It was a really stressful time for us, as a family, as the closure was very sudden and we didn't have long to find a suitable home for her needs. From the onset, the manager at Westvale
was truly amazing. She did everything in her power to reassure us, as a family, that they could cater for my sister, that she would be well cared for and that Westvale was the right home for her. The manager took away all the worries that we had, she listened to our many questions and queries and answered each one in a caring and professional manner. I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for my sister and us, as a family, since my sister moved there in January.
All the staff at Westvale are really lovely and have made my sister feel right at home from the start. I am so glad we chose Westvale for my sister.

My mum was admitted to Westvale in March from another local care home where the care had been lacking and the management shocking. The experience we had at Westvale was no less than outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, amazing staff, good nutritious food with plenty of options, and a manager who was visible
and very much involved. Sadly, Mum passed away after only six weeks at the home. The last week of her life we camped out in her room. Each and every member of staff treated Mum with amazing respect and dignity, her care was outstanding. We were offered meals, drinks and anything we needed. We are truly grateful to everyone at the home for making Mum's last weeks comfortable and providing her with the care she deserved. Amazing care home and amazing staff.

Our mum was admitted to Westvale House Care Home in December. It was Mum's, myself and my sibling's dread for Mum to be sent to a care home. On the day Mum arrived there she was really confused and very upset as was I. One member of staff in particular sat me down and she was really empathetic and listened
to what I had to say and she comforted me. At the end of our conversation I felt reasurred that Mum was in the right place. We can visit Mum any time of the day or night. Mum seems to have settled really well. We can't give enough credit to all the staff who work there. The chef cooks amazing food for the residents. On arrival to Westvale you're greeted with refreshments. There's always a selection of beautiful homemade cakes. One member of staff in particular is a credit to Westvale. She also keeps the residents entertained. There are always lots of activities to keep their minds active. Thank you to all at Westvale for caring for our mum. I wouldn't hesitate recommending anybody to send their loved ones to Westvale.

Entertainment. Activities every day which involve movement, coordination, brain stimulation.
Carers display empathy, support,
guidance.

My dad is very well looked after on every level.
If I had to make the choice again.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.606)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.606) out of 10 for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.606 for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (159 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 236 Ratings = 4.606
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I joined the Westvale team in March 2025, but I have been with Barchester since 2019 when I joined as a Registered Nurse at Cheshire Grange Care Home, this is where I progressed to become Head of Unit, then Acting Deputy Manager, before working across the region as Deputy Manager supporting multiple homes – this is where I fell in love with Westvale House, so when the permanent position became available for Deputy Manager, there was no question this is where I wanted to be.

I decided to become a nurse when my children were small and I was a carer, I quickly discovered I love working in care, looking after people makes me happy. Whether that be my family or patients in a hospital or residents in a care home, it gives my life meaning. As a nurse it can be the most challenging job but also the most rewarding job.

I am a true believer in team work and I value every member of staff. Each department cannot work well without the other. I aim to support the staff so they feel appreciated, educated and empowered to be able to their job to the best of their abilities and in doing so, we as a team can deliver the best care possible to our residents.

Hi, I'm Emma and I am a Nurse at Westvale House.

I qualified as a Nurse in 2022 and having worked as a carer for many years it was a natural progression for me and I love it. The best part of the job is the people, the Residents and the families you meet.

There is always something going on at Westvale House - which suits me down to the ground. It matches my life outside of work, where I enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking with my Husband and then what better way to end a day on the water than with a BBQ and a glass of fizz!

My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.

I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families.
