Westvale House is situated within the Sankey Valley Park area of Warrington in Cheshire. It is a purpose-built care home for older people that require residential and general nursing care. In addition they provide end of life/ palliative care and care for young people with physical disabilities. The home is set in beautifully landscaped gardens with outdoor seating and easy access from all downstairs lounges.

A team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. And their dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and organising activities.

The team are also very keen to promote a home from home atmosphere recognising that this is the residents' home and they want them to feel relaxed and comfortable and safe. They offer a wide range of activities, have regular entertainment and really encourage families to get involved. They recently had a group of relatives help in the garden as well as attending a relative focus group.

My sister moved into Barchester Westvale House Care Home in January this year after her care home was closed down. It was a really stressful time for us, as a family, as the closure was very sudden and we didn't have long to find a suitable home for her needs. From the onset, the manager at Westvale
was truly amazing. She did everything in her power to reassure us, as a family, that they could cater for my sister, that she would be well cared for and that Westvale was the right home for her. The manager took away all the worries that we had, she listened to our many questions and queries and answered each one in a caring and professional manner. I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for my sister and us, as a family, since my sister moved there in January.
All the staff at Westvale are really lovely and have made my sister feel right at home from the start. I am so glad we chose Westvale for my sister.
Reply from Jackie Bray, General Manager at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, we really do appreciate it and I will share it with the Westvale team. It is our pleasure to have your sister with us and to have your family as part of our home community.

My mum was admitted to Westvale in March from another local care home where the care had been lacking and the management shocking. The experience we had at Westvale was no less than outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, amazing staff, good nutritious food with plenty of options, and a manager who was visible
and very much involved. Sadly, Mum passed away after only six weeks at the home. The last week of her life we camped out in her room. Each and every member of staff treated Mum with amazing respect and dignity, her care was outstanding. We were offered meals, drinks and anything we needed. We are truly grateful to everyone at the home for making Mum's last weeks comfortable and providing her with the care she deserved. Amazing care home and amazing staff.
Reply from Kirsty Burgess, Customer Relationship Manager at Barchester Westvale House Care HomeThank you for your review. It was our pleasure to care for your Mum and your lovely family, and thank you for being part of our home community. I will be sure to pass on your positive words to the staff team, who work hard every single day to deliver the highest quality of care.

Our mum was admitted to Westvale House Care Home in December. It was Mum's, myself and my sibling's dread for Mum to be sent to a care home. On the day Mum arrived there she was really confused and very upset as was I. One member of staff in particular sat me down and she was really empathetic and listened
to what I had to say and she comforted me. At the end of our conversation I felt reasurred that Mum was in the right place. We can visit Mum any time of the day or night. Mum seems to have settled really well. We can't give enough credit to all the staff who work there. The chef cooks amazing food for the residents. On arrival to Westvale you're greeted with refreshments. There's always a selection of beautiful homemade cakes. One member of staff in particular is a credit to Westvale. She also keeps the residents entertained. There are always lots of activities to keep their minds active. Thank you to all at Westvale for caring for our mum. I wouldn't hesitate recommending anybody to send their loved ones to Westvale.

Care and attention to detail. Support and knowing individual's needs/requirements. Nutrition and restaurant meals exceed expectations. On-site medical support, excellent.
Entertainment. Activities every day which involve movement, coordination, brain stimulation.
Carers display empathy, support,
guidance.
It's home from home.
My dad is very well looked after on every level.
If I had to make the choice again.
I wouldn't move my dad.
I'm always made welcome and my concerns listened to.
It's rather a fabulous place.

I can honestly not begin to express how fantastic the staff are at Westvale. My grandad moved in, in October and from the very beginning the staff could not do enough for him. From the management team to the domestic staff, they all went above and beyond for him. His face would always light up when
staff came into his bedroom. They even helped with my nana when she would visit. Unfortunately, his stay wasn't too long and during his final day at Westvale, the staff was absolutely fantastic and could not do enough for us as a family to ensure we were also looked after and comfortable at that time.
Once again I would just like to thank all the staff for everything.

Dad struggled to settle when he first moved into the care home after losing is wife, of sixty-four years, only a few weeks prior to this. But after only seven weeks in the home and several changes to his medications plus the care he was receiving, he was more settled and enjoying interactions with all
the staff despite missing his old home. He's had a recent short spell in hospital but it was lovely to hear him say he was looking forward to getting 'home; - meaning the care home! So reassuring for us, as a family.

The service was excellent, the staff at Barchester Westvale House Care Home went the extra mile caring for my dad, until he passed, with the superb nursing care he received. The home is comfortable, safe and secure and welcomed my dad and family with compassion. The staff provide an excellent service

My mum went into Barchester Westvale House Care Home for end-of-life care on 11/07/2023. Sadly, she passed away on 25/08/2023 but the care she received whilst there was excellent in every way. Without exception, staff were warm, empathetic, professional and so caring (to both Mum and us).
On discharge
from a lengthy hospital stay, Mum was so poorly and frail that she was only expected to be in Westvale House for one to two weeks. She was actually there for over six weeks and we believe this is because of the quality of the care she received there and having all her medical needs fully met.
Westvale has a calm atmosphere and everyone is made to feel welcome. Although Mum's appetite was small, she loved the food she had and her room was clean, bright and comfortable. For all the reasons already mentioned, we are so pleased that Mum's final weeks were in a place that was so caring and so responsive to her changing needs. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westvale to anyone looking for a home where the care is superb.

Our fiercely independent mum refused to go into any home. We her daughters were at our wit's end and found the general manager wonderfully reassuring. Her team delivered 100% superb quality of care, concern and support. Confident they were listening, proactive, reactive and competent, a couple of minor
initial niggles were quickly resolved with good communication, smiles and a can-do attitude. The hallmarks of a professional facility. The food, gardens, furniture and cleanliness were exactly what we hoped they would be. At the end of Mum's life, the whole team guided us and ensured she had a serene and calm soft landing. We were overwhelmed by the compassion showed to us as we kept a 3 day vigil and want to especially thank (in no order) those who cared for us as we cared for Mum. Thank you to you all.

My 85-year-old mum has just had 6 weeks of respite after a hip replacement. After 3 weeks in the hospital, they brought her back to the Mum we know, they have worked wonders. The staff are all great, always happy and smiling. She loved the food and made friends with the other residents. She enjoyed
the activities and was encouraged to take part which is what we wanted. Thank you so much.

I called to see my friend was moved to Barchester Westvale House Care Home.
I have been a carer for a few years and have been in quite a few nursing homes and was very impressed. Outside was smart and welcoming. Reception were very nice, friendly and helpful. First impressions, clean and tidy, wheelchair
friendly, large life, lovely decor and the dining room looked like a restaurant with menu displayed. Lovely, well done.

I just feel at the moment they are short of staff, the rooms haven't always been cleaned to a good standard. The furniture in Mum's room is looking quite shabby (drawers not fitting well).
Sometimes she is given food she doesn't like and she needs to eat because she's underweight.
The regular staff
are excellent.

We are very grateful for the excellent care provided from the time my mother in law was discharged from hospital following two fractures until her death in September 2022. She reached the age of 102 so was extremely frail, and although she didn't manage to regain her mobility she did manage to enjoy
the facilities in a wheel chair. Particularly impressive was the skin care.

My mum has been in Westvale House Care Home for 18 months, since the middle of the pandemic. My mum loves living there, and the staff are all very caring and kind. My mum had a couple of visits from her friends over the past week. Both of them said to me how impressed they were with the welcome, cleanliness
and friendliness at Westvale House - as am I. And how happy my mum is living in Westvale House - mum's friend said she had never seen someone living in a care home so happy! I chose Westvale House on the advice of a friend whose mum had been a resident there. I am really pleased we did, they have the highest standards of care and cleanliness for the residents and lots of activities for them.

I am very happy with the care and consideration my sister receives at Westvale. More importantly, my sister likes the staff and routine in her life; she tells me so. The care she receives has stopped her from being admitted to the hospital, as was previously happening before she came to Westvale. Thank

Many thanks for your care and support during this challenging time. My friend always feels safe and secure living here and enjoys the high quality of care given. Activities

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (204 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 296 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Westvale House Care Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2023

Hi, my name is Lesley and I'm Head Chef here at Westvale House.

I started working here in 2023, and absolutely love my job. My passion is cooking and baking, and trying new ideas, so I love that I get to explore and create new menus. Every day is different, and exploring the likes and wants of residents' food choices makes it so exciting. There's not a request we haven't had!

Outside of work, I love to walk my Boxer dog Cooper. I also like to read, going to darts and rugby tournaments, and visiting my children and grandchildren who live over in Ireland.

As a team, we ensure we maintain a professional, relaxed and friendly environment, and we work hard to promote a homely atmosphere. I love working at Westvale House.

Job Title: Registered General Nurse Joined: 2022

Hi, I'm Emma and I am a Nurse at Westvale House.

I qualified as a Nurse in 2022 and having worked as a carer for many years it was a natural progression for me and I love it. The best part of the job is the people, the Residents and the families you meet.

There is always something going on at Westvale House - which suits me down to the ground. It matches my life outside of work, where I enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking with my Husband and then what better way to end a day on the water than with a BBQ and a glass of fizz!

Aimee Dyas

Job Title: Activities Co-Ordinator Joined: 2025

Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.

My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.

I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families. They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.

Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.

Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.
