Westvale House is situated within the Sankey Valley Park area of Warrington in Cheshire. It is a purpose-built care home for older people that require residential and general nursing care. In addition they provide end of life/ palliative care and care for young people with physical disabilities. The home is set in beautifully landscaped gardens with outdoor seating and easy access from all downstairs lounges.

A team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. And their dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and organising activities.

The team are also very keen to promote a home from home atmosphere recognising that this is the residents' home and they want them to feel relaxed and comfortable and safe. They offer a wide range of activities, have regular entertainment and really encourage families to get involved. They recently had a group of relatives help in the garden as well as attending a relative focus group.

Patients having to wait far too long for attention when requesting assistance ie commode request and when finishing on the toilet due to a shortage of staff however hard the work. Not a satisfactory situation in the morning that people are being washed, dressed and pills while using the commode, due
to pressure on staff - again a lack of numbers. Eating utensils not up to standard in cleanliness.

I took a long time to find a suitable home for dad and Westvale House was the best that I saw. I am glad that dad was there. He was an 'easy' gentleman to have to cope for as he was quiet and cooperative. However, he was unable to talk and this was real frustration as often the care staff didn't have
the time to be with him or understand him.
His room was adequate but could have been cleaner. However, overall, the staff were really good and kind to dad and gave him the best care they could.

Mu mum stayed at Westvale for one month. The care was palliative as she had suffered a huge stroke in November, that coupled with her Alzheimers was all too much for her sadly.
The care received was very good and carers were all respectful and caring towards her.
I have only praise and thanks for
the team that took care of my dear mum.
I would highly recommend to anyone.

My sister and I went in every day to help by feeding Mum lunch. My mother was a resident in Westvale Nursing Home for around 3 years. Her care and the support she was given was excellent. All the staff did their utmost to make her comfortable, as Mum did not leave her bed for around 2-3 years.
The
only comment I can make is that there was never enough staff. The staff there worked so hard to look after the residents and the main nurse on the upstairs floor was excellent at her job, nothing was too much trouble.

In my experience, there is not enough staff for all the patients.
They do not do enough activities for the bed-bound patients that are aware of being bored.
Patients are left too long to be changed etc i.e Staff shortages.
My sister is happy here but does get depressed with the lack of activities
etc.
You need to employ people just for activities.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry to hear your experience of Westvale is not as we would have wanted. Westvale continuously reviews its staffing in relation to dependency of our residents, currently Westvale is one of the highest staffed homes in the area. We have had a gap in our activities, which we have now filled with a full time activities coordinator. I can understand how this has impacted on life in the home, however our coordinators have lots planned for the residents at Westvale, including our Open Day on 16th June.

My mum passed away in august this year at Westvale House. She and all my family cannot thank the staff enough. She died with dignity and peacefully.The care she received was amazing, the staff all care. Always smiling staff, helpful in any way they could.

Nice, clean friendly home but it is understaffed, not enough carers. Do not get me washed and dressed before 11.30 because there are not enough carers. My activities get cancelled, very little activities on offer. No outings on offer. Would be a marvellous care home if more caregiving and activities
people.

I was extremely concerned when my mum went into a nursing home and made enquiries about CCTV cameras. However within a very short time I realised I need not worry about mum being a resident at Westvale.
The whole atmosphere of the place is warm and inviting, the staff are very friendly. I find it
difficult to nominate 1 person for 'employee of the month' as the ones who I meet via my mum are all brilliant.
I have 5 brothers and lots of nieces who visit mum regularly and they would all agree with my comments.


If I have any concerns/ queries I can always go to the office to speak to someone. They always have time to put my mind at ease.
The carers I have seen always make a point of smiling, speaking and sometimes 'playing' with the less able residents.
We recently had a party at Westvale to celebrate mums 86th birthday. The chef made a tasty buffet and the activities worker arranged for entertainment and balloons etc.

I would like to say thank you to the care staff at Westvale for supporting our family and helping us through the recent loss of our father, they were very kind and although our fathers stay was short we think this was a very relaxed and pleasant home. In these situations there is never a perfect place
but we all appreciated Westvale at our time of need. We would recommend this care home.

Natalie Harris

Hello, my name is Natalie and I am the Deputy Manager here at Westvale House.


I joined the Westvale team in March 2025, but I have been with Barchester since 2019 when I joined as a Registered Nurse at Cheshire Grange Care Home, this is where I progressed to become Head of Unit, then Acting Deputy Manager, before working across the region as Deputy Manager supporting multiple homes – this is where I fell in love with Westvale House, so when the permanent position became available for Deputy Manager, there was no question this is where I wanted to be.


I decided to become a nurse when my children were small and I was a carer, I quickly discovered I love working in care, looking after people makes me happy. Whether that be my family or patients in a hospital or residents in a care home, it gives my life meaning. As a nurse it can be the most challenging job but also the most rewarding job.


I am a true believer in team work and I value every member of staff. Each department cannot work well without the other. I aim to support the staff so they feel appreciated, educated and empowered to be able to their job to the best of their abilities and in doing so, we as a team can deliver the best care possible to our residents.

I started working here in 2023, and absolutely love my job. My passion is cooking and baking, and trying new ideas, so I love that I get to explore and create new menus. Every day is different, and exploring the likes and wants of residents' food choices makes it so exciting. There's not a request we haven't had!


Outside of work, I love to walk my Boxer dog Cooper. I also like to read, going to darts and rugby tournaments, and visiting my children and grandchildren who live over in Ireland.

As a team, we ensure we maintain a professional, relaxed and friendly environment, and we work hard to promote a homely atmosphere. I love working at Westvale House.

Hi, I'm Emma and I am a Nurse at Westvale House.


I qualified as a Nurse in 2022 and having worked as a carer for many years it was a natural progression for me and I love it. The best part of the job is the people, the Residents and the families you meet.


There is always something going on at Westvale House - which suits me down to the ground. It matches my life outside of work, where I enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking with my Husband and then what better way to end a day on the water than with a BBQ and a glass of fizz!

Hi, I’m Aimee and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Westvale House.


My role is to support Residents well-being, to provide enriching and meaningful activities and promote independence and social engagement.


I joined the team in April 2025 and by far the best part of the role is getting to know our Residents and their families. They have many stories to share and understanding their individual needs enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities program that captures and includes everyone in the home.


Prior to joining Westvale I worked in Forensic Mental Health and prior as a Community Support Worker and feel that along with my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Social Care, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise not only to my role but to contribute to the Barchester whole home approach.


Outside of work, I enjoy regular trips to the cinema with my Fiancée, we adore our six cats and have plenty of cuddles and when time allows we get out and about for long walks.

Hi, I'm Pam and I am Head Housekeeper here at Westvale House.


I have worked at Westvale for a number of years and then took the position as Head Housekeeper in 2021. Me and my team strive to keep the home looking its best, and ensure residents' rooms are always clean and tidy. I work hard to make sure our home always meets Barchester's high standards and create a warm and friendly atmosphere for residents, families, team and visitors.


Outside of work I love spending time with my two horses and enjoying downtime with my family.
