Darnall Grange EMI Nursing Home, in Sheffield, is a specialist residential and dementia care facility that employs a skilled and friendly care team and adheres to recognised standards.

Darnall Grange is a wonderful Care home. Our mum lived there for the last two years of her life. The whole team are incredibly caring and compassionate towards the residents. They are led by a lovely manager who genuinely cares about the residents and the impact on their families and loved ones.
Mum
was so well cared for and treated with dignity. We always felt as though they really knew her which was a great comfort to us. The home was always spotless as was Mum's room. The food was delicious with daily choices cooked by a lovely catering team. The manager would help out with serving at busy times. We were always warmly welcomed as a family and communication was always excellent. It is a shame that names cannot be mentioned here as we have so much gratitude for so many lovely team members. We felt as though Mum became part of their family.
We would highly recommend Darnall Grange for anyone living with dementia.

Definitely not a good experience, it was disgusting. Windows didn’t close properly and when my sister went to see Dad, every day, he was really sick on this particular day. No one had bothered to do anything and when my sister said something they then called an ambulance. Dad had pneumonia and passed
away a week later. I wouldn’t put my worst enemy in this home. It has taken me a long time to write this as I was really angry. Dad had his mind and staff came in, didn’t ask and just helped themselves to his sweets that we had taken. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t mind but they shouldn’t just help themselves.

We are always devasted when a relative or loved one has a negative experience. This is never our intention and we feel that we have to respond without providing sensitive medical information but general facts for any reviewer to receive a balanced view.
On the window, we have full-time a handyman that carries out monthly checks on many items of equipment and building that include windows for safety, this includes handles and safety restraints. We are unable to verify this and have no record of any reports highlighting any defective windows in the room suggested.
The gentleman in question was transferred to Darnall Grange but not discharged from hospital as he was placed in a community hospital bed at Darnall Grange. His treatment was continued and supervised by the NHS Team including Modern Matron, Therapy and Consultant supported by the home's GP and multi-disciplinary team.
The gentleman resided at Darnall Grange for just over a week and his condition was monitored by the nursing staff and carers as well as visited personally by the home's GP and the hospital's Consultant. Due to his deterioration in his original condition that he was being treated for a readmission to hospital was organised by the Consultant.
We feel that records clearly show multiple interventions by trained nurses and carers throughout every day and night. We dispute the fact that the care was poor and that medical intervention wasn’t given in a timely manner.
It is very sad to hear the passing of a loved one and we can only share sympathy at the loss and grief experienced and hope any reader will understand both sides in this sad review.

My mother needed care after a fall and the use of an intermediate care bed. Every time I visited the warmth and care of the care staff was evident in all observed interaction with residents. Mum said she couldn't fault them for all the time she was there. The garden area is a calm and welcoming space,
thought and care have gone into its creation for those with dementia especially. Mum's return home has been made possible due to your care. A huge thank you.

I visited Darnall Grange Care Home unannounced over a Bank Holiday weekend (due to hospital timings) before mum was discharged there from hospital to make sure it was the right place for her. I was only expecting to see a quick glimpse of the building and maybe foyer. However, a member of the care staff
welcomed me in and showed me around. As if that wasn't enough, the senior nurse on duty, despite being busy, talked about my mum and her needs for nearly half an hour. When mum was discharged into Darnall Grange, every single member of staff and management on duty made an exceptional effort to introduce themselves and make mum and me feel incredibly welcomed, understood and supported. The building and rooms are clean and well positioned. The food is very good, varied, appetising and nutritious. The staff do an incredible job, they work long and hard, which makes how they have treated mum and me all the more valued - please do bear this in mind if things can't always meet your expectations.

My husband came to Darnall Grange for respite care. He has advanced Parkinson’s disease and a diagnosis of Lewy Body dementia. He also has complex medical conditions which means he requires 24-hour care.
I cannot praise the staff and the level of care they provide sufficiently. The manager is efficient
and approachable he and his staff seemed to care for my husband and his needs with genuine compassion and understanding.
I personally saw genuine respect and concern for residents provided each time I visited my husband. My husband has said he would be happy to return to Darnall Grange in the future. I would be happy to recommend this wonderful nursing care home. Many thanks.

I cannot praise the staff enough at Darnall Grange Care Home. Initially, my dad came to the home for some respite care to give my mum a rest. However, it was apparent that dad needed 24-hour specialist care due to his Parkinsons' and Dementia illness. I spent a lot of time at the home and saw how the
staff cared for the patients/residents. There is a calmness around the home with every member of staff treating the residents with dignity, care and respect.

I have not had any dealing with care homes before but I have been really pleased with the care and help my mother has had at Darnall Grange Care Home. They are helping to get Mum back to her own home and they do it at her pace and not rushing her. The odd meals we've seen Mum having are well balanced
and nourishing, so she has gone from not eating to enjoying her food.
