My husband came to Darnall Grange for respite care. He has advanced Parkinson’s disease and a diagnosis of Lewy Body dementia. He also has complex medical conditions which means he requires 24-hour care.
I cannot praise the staff and the level of care they provide sufficiently. The manager is efficient
and approachable he and his staff seemed to care for my husband and his needs with genuine compassion and understanding.
I personally saw genuine respect and concern for residents provided each time I visited my husband. My husband has said he would be happy to return to Darnall Grange in the future. I would be happy to recommend this wonderful nursing care home. Many thanks.

The staff who have cared for my father have been professional and friendly. All the staff have been welcoming and there is an atmosphere of positivity at all times. The home is spotlessly clean and well-appointed. The food is well cooked and served. It has been a pleasure to visit my father and to feel
confident that he was being cared for in my absence.

My mum was given care with friendliness and compassion. She was treated as an individual with her own needs but was also given the confidence to attend to her own needs. She enjoyed the company not only from the residents but also of the care staff. Thank you everyone who looked after my mum, what a
lovely family of people you are.

Darnall Grange Care Home is such a wonderful home. My father was only here a short time before he passed away due to ongoing illness. All the staff are kind, helpful and made a very difficult time easier to deal with. The manager is a credit to the owner, along with all his staff. Our family was blown
away by all the support and kindness. So clean and tidy. Such a beautiful home.

I'm very happy with my mother's care at Darnall Grange Care Home. The staff are all friendly, caring and professional. They have lots of activities to keep the residents occupied and a lovely garden for them to sit in. The home is well-run and welcoming with good security to keep residents safe. Rooms
are all individual with ensuite facilities.

I cannot praise the staff enough at Darnall Grange Care Home. Initially, my dad came to the home for some respite care to give my mum a rest. However, it was apparent that dad needed 24-hour specialist care due to his Parkinsons' and Dementia illness. I spent a lot of time at the home and saw how the
staff cared for the patients/residents. There is a calmness around the home with every member of staff treating the residents with dignity, care and respect.

I have not had any dealing with care homes before but I have been really pleased with the care and help my mother has had at Darnall Grange Care Home. They are helping to get Mum back to her own home and they do it at her pace and not rushing her. The odd meals we've seen Mum having are well balanced
and nourishing, so she has gone from not eating to enjoying her food.

Staff are so committed to caring for residents with such kindness, understanding and empathy. They continued to keep residents safe from Covid using appropriate PPE and following the rules to keep them safe.
Communication with relatives is such an important part, caring for residents with dementia
and Darnall Grange has been amazing throughout my father's stay.

Mum was in for respite for a week. When I brought my mum she didn't want to stay but the staff persuaded her to go in for a drink, she went. As soon as she went in she was happy to stay. I phoned every day and Mum sounded happy and full of life, every day she said she loved it and the food was brilliant,
she came out with her hair done in plaits. Mum will definitely be coming back. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.797) out of 10 for Darnall Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.797 for Darnall Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (276 Excellents x 5) + (59 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 340 Ratings = 4.797
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Darnall Grange Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
