Colton Lodges Care Home, situated in the historic town of Colton, near Leeds, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential, nursing and dementia care.

Colton Lodges offers a comfortable home for all residents. There are many areas for residents to relax and unwind as well as engage in hobbies and interests. The onsite café and conservatory provides residents with areas to socialise with one another and their relatives.

The catering team at Colton Lodges understands the nutritional needs of older people and creates delicious meals to ensure a lovely dining experience for all residents and visitors. The popular dining areas provide a welcoming space to enjoy meals with fellow residents, or family and friends.

My mum is asked whether she wants to get out of bed or have a shower as soon as she wakes. When she says no she is not asked again. Mum is bed bound now and often does not get a wash - she uses face wipes and I brush her teeth when I arrive each day at 4pm (even though these basic care duties have been
brought up by me before). Often given a cup which she can not hold and food she cannot cut up or chew. Some, but not all, staff do not speak to her when attending her.

My mum has been a resident of Colton Lodges Care Home since February 2020 and in all this time, we have been happy with the care and dignity with which she has been treated. She can no longer sit in the lounge and join in any activities but she always looks warm and cosy in her room. A big thank you
to the carers on the Newsam Wing.

The home is clean, good food. Husband is well looked after. Day staff have a good relationship with both husband and family. Room is nice, would prefer hard flooring not carpet. The activity staff are lovely, trips are good such as nature walks/pubs.

Mum has been here for nearly 2 years and has been well cared for. The staff are very caring and treat her like member of their family. If I have concerns about mum, the staff are very responsive and I fell I can raise anything with them. Mum is on Newsam and I feel this unit has improved so much in
the past year. There are lots of activities and opportunities to take trips out. Mum says she likes it here and everything is here for her.

When I go and visit my brother, I can see for myself the good care he gets. The food is excellent. You can go to any staff if there is a problem. They are so kind and caring, nothing is too much trouble. The entertainment and activities are good. They are taken on trips. It is a very well run home.

My mum has been in Colton Lodges Care Home for 4 months now and she is happy and looked after. The nurses and staff are always happy to help and will listen to you if you have any problems. The nurses and staff will also keep you informed of any issues with your loved one. I can sleep easier knowing
she is safe and that mum is being cared for with compassion and care.

The staff are extremely helpful and caring towards residents. The food is lovely and residents are encouraged to eat and choose food that they want. All residents are treated with dignity and respect.

Mum moved to this home on closure of her council run care home, a big thing for an elderly 91 year old frail lady. Colton Lodges Care Home have made the move easy and made mum feel really welcome. She has now settled and it is good to again enjoy quality time with her.

Buzzers not answered in time. Big shortage of staff. Medication not being given on time. Patients who can't help themselves should be washed down or showered, plus their hands should be washed before meals. Some are left in wet pads which causes bad smells of urine and the patients smelling of urine.
Some are left in their chairs just staring at the same four walls all day with no motivation. The food is really bad and not enough, so they are told there is not enough to go round, i.e. meatballs (just one per patient), ice cream etc. What about their dignity? It's so sad.

I visit regularly at Colton Lodge and I have found it to be quite a depressing time. The residents just sit in the lounge staring at the walls, there is no or hardly any interaction between residents and staff. On visiting my friend or making requests to staff such as nail cutting, hand washing, and
cuts - their reply is yes it will get done but takes weeks for basic needs to be met. There is minimum communication between staff - no one seems to know any answers.

I am very pleased with the care Mum is given at Colton Lodges. The staff are always friendly and smiling, and are always happy to answer any questions. If there are any problems, they contact me immediately and contact the doctor immediately if there are any medical issues. There are lots of activities
for residents to take part in. Mum always says she enjoys the food and that it is appetising and nicely cooked.

Danielle Longthorn

Job Title: Home Manager

“For me, kind care is treating everyone with respect and dignity, while offering choice and promoting independence.”


As a Registered Nurse, Danielle has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Danielle chose to become Home Manager at Colton Lodges as she closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Danielle remarked:


“Making a difference to people’s lives, it’s a pleasure to see our Resident’s living happy and fulfilled lives.”


Outside of work, Danielle is a devoted wife and mother to two boys who enjoys travelling to America, she hopes to visit all 52 states in her lifetime. In her spare time, she is a big supporter of football, rugby, American football and ice hockey.
