Gledhow provides nursing, dementia, palliative and short-stay care for up to 51 residents in a purpose-built home tucked away in a leafy suburb of Leeds.

Set at the end of a quiet driveway, the home offers a calm and connected setting just 10 minutes from Leeds city centre. Residents benefit from nearby green spaces like Roundhay Park and local amenities on the nearby high street. A bus stop at the bottom of the drive makes visiting simple.

All bedrooms are en-suite and can be personalised with familiar touches. The home includes a sensory room, garden room, salon, and a dedicated pub-style lounge known as The Gledhow Arms. There’s also a dementia café and a strong pastoral presence through the home’s full-time chaplain.

Meals are freshly cooked by a team of three experienced chefs, with input from residents. Popular options include Friday fish and chips, seafood specials, and themed menus. Afternoon teas, birthday cakes, and pub lunches make mealtimes social and memorable.

Daily life includes “Move to Music,” flower arranging, Reading Club, Joyful Noise singalongs, and animal therapy visits. Trips, intergenerational events with local schools, and volunteer-run projects bring colour and community throughout the year.

At Gledhow, care isn’t just about support, it’s about creating a community where residents thrive. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for nursing, dementia, palliative or short-stay care, the team at Gledhow are here to help.

I was extremely impressed with the care and compassion with which she was treated throughout her stay but particularly so in the last weeks of her life. Communication was excellent. The nursing staff and the carers attended to her needs with great sensitivity and the administration staff were extremely
helpful when it came to dealing with financial and other matters. She was a very popular resident and the staff were very close to her.
Reply from Paulina Mazurek, Administration Manager at GledhowThank you for your kind words. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to care for her. The entire home misses her greatly and she will never be forgotten at Gledhow.

We have visited a 96-year-old friend on a regular basis over the last 18 months.
She has received excellent care from all the staff especially in her last illness. Staff have always been polite, cheerful and helpful even under very difficult circumstances with Covid. She had a very pleasant room and
enjoyed the meals and any entertainment that was possible.
Reply from Paulina Mazurek, Administration Manager at GledhowThank you for your review. It was a pleasure to care for her especially during her last days. We are absolutely grateful for being able to meet such a wonderful woman. She will be missed a lot at Gledhow. Please remember, we are always here for you. I'll pass your feedback to our staff. Kind regards.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic the home have worked amazingly hard to keep the residents safe from the virus and to their credit the home has remained COVID free. They locked the home down early to visitors but through the use of Skype or other methods have enabled contact with relatives to continue.
The carers are kind, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile for the residents. A new manager is now in place after a period of caretaker management over the last few months, which will hopefully continue to provide support and leadership to the home.
Reply from Paulina Mazurek, Administration Manager at GledhowThank you very much. Our staff will be happy to hear your opinion. I will pass it on to them. Kind Regards, Paulina.

As the staffing retainment difficulties seem to be not as prominent, there are more permanent, stable staff who make a real difference to my dad's life and care. They know him (and us!) well and do their best to look after us all.
The staff have arranged contact to be maintained in these strange times
by phone, video call or outside visits, socially distanced of course.
In the absence of a hairdresser, one of the carers has brought in the clippers so my dad looks less than a mad professor/Father Christmas /Ken Dodd! The carers have gone out of their way most days to help us keep in touch.
The manager is extremely approachable and supportive in providing the best care. Any questions or concerns have been dealt with quickly.
Reply from Paulina Mazurek, Administration Manager at GledhowThank you for your kind words.
We aim to do all we can especially now to provide the highest level of care and we will continue to do so.

Kind Regards,
Paulina

During the present crisis we have been very confident that our relative has been well looked after. Although we haven’t been able to visit, we have spoken via whatsapp video calls and have seen that she is happy and cared for. We have been impressed with the way the staff have coped in this very difficult
time - keeping the members entertained as well as secure from infection.
Reply from Sue Garvey, Home Manager at GledhowThank you so much for your positive comments. The staff will be happy to receive this I’m sure. The staff are working hard to ensure the resident's care doesn’t suffer as a result of Covid and getting regular video calls all goes towards that process.

This care home is very homely, and all the staff are attentive, they help all the residents and make the part of decision making or events. For example, they have the choice of food they would like or drink. Also, the staff do daily activities which allow all the residents to participate.

The home was my family’s original choice in early 2019, but because no new clients were being admitted, she went from hospital to another nursing home.
My mother was moved to Gledhow (where places were now available) in early 2020, after recovering from further illness in hospital.
Although only at
Gledhow for a few weeks before passing away from a long-term illness, she received excellent care and food from a dedicated team who made sure that although confined to her room, she never felt alone.
My family can not thank all the staff and Chaplain enough for making her last few weeks as pain-free and bearable as possible.
Reply from Paulina Mazurek, Administration Manager at GledhowThank you very much for your lovely words. It was absolutely our pleasure to care for your mother within our Gledhow family. I'll pass your comment to the staff.

The staff are always very friendly and acknowledge when we arrive. There are a number of different activities provided and these appear to be appreciated by the residents. The meals are varied, are good quality and certainly appreciated by the person whom my wife and I visit. Overall the care home has
a good ambience and the residents appear to be relaxed and contented.

Set in beautiful woodland grounds, as a frequent visitor I'm always impressed by the welcome smiling faces of the staff. A spacious lounge where residents enjoy a wide variety of daily activities. All rooms en-suite - visiting residents for a one to one, an opportunity for folk to talk, reminisce as
I listen. Snacks always to hand and tea/coffee etc.

Care assistants are kind, caring and competent. Nurses are knowledgeable, caring and competent. All staff keep up to date with care plans and treat residents with respect.
Perhaps residents (some) need more encouragement to get up and take part in activities.
There are various activities to engage
with. In good weather, I would like to see residents taken out for a breath of fresh air. Wi-fi needs attention - it is always cutting out!
Reply from Darren Mann-Saunders, Home Manager at GledhowThank you for your feedback; it is greatly appreciated and a way of looking at where we need to improve. I will feed your comments back to the team. We have a project to upgrade all of our Wi-Fi.

My mother suffers from cardiovascular dementia and she has been in Gledhow Care Home for approximately three years. The care she has received has been excellent, providing my mum with dignity and love. Although my mum has no mobility, she is lifted (by hoist) in and out of bed each day.
There is regular
entertainment in the residents' lounge. The administration manager is always very efficient and helpful.
Equally, all the care staff have been excellent.

My mum was happily resident at Gledhow for three years. Her slow decline from Parkinson's was managed well and she was loved by the staff. Her last months of life were comfortable- she felt safe and well supported by the very caring staff. Her final decline close to her 92nd birthday was a model of
good end of life care. The staff looked after her so skilfully and tenderly, following the wishes she had expressed in her End of Life plan. The family were also treated with tenderness and sensitivity. I can't thank you enough for Mum's 'good death' and the support I personally received. In the end, there was nothing left in her room but breath and love.

My Aunt is currently a resident at Gledhow Care Home. I live quite a distance away from this home and recently arrived for a visit unannounced around tea-time but we were welcomed from the first moment we walked through the door, we were offered refreshments and it felt like nothing was too much trouble.

The

staff are dedicated, committed, caring and from observing the surrounding everyone has this same loving treatment. My Aunt is treated with kindness, respect and dignity.

The home is filled with laughter, good spirits and there is positivity everywhere. I would personally like to thank all of the staff for caring as much as they do and I feel after speaking to some of the carers all of the residents are treated as part of a big family.

During her stay in the home, my wife was treated with dignity by a caring staff. Not only were her needs catered for, but mine was too. Nothing was too much trouble for either of us. I was welcome to visit at any time and welcomed with a hot drink on arrival. On occasions when I was unexpectedly unable
to visit, I had either a phone call or a visit by a member of staff to check on my welfare. This continued up to her death on 4/1/18, when concern for my welfare was paramount.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.860)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.860) out of 10 for Gledhow is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.860 for Gledhow is calculated as follows: ( (362 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 414 Ratings = 4.86
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gledhow is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
