Gledhow provides nursing, dementia, palliative and short-stay care for up to 51 residents in a purpose-built home tucked away in a leafy suburb of Leeds.

Set at the end of a quiet driveway, the home offers a calm and connected setting just 10 minutes from Leeds city centre. Residents benefit from nearby green spaces like Roundhay Park and local amenities on the nearby high street. A bus stop at the bottom of the drive makes visiting simple.

All bedrooms are en-suite and can be personalised with familiar touches. The home includes a sensory room, garden room, salon, and a dedicated pub-style lounge known as The Gledhow Arms. There’s also a dementia café and a strong pastoral presence through the home’s full-time chaplain.

Meals are freshly cooked by a team of three experienced chefs, with input from residents. Popular options include Friday fish and chips, seafood specials, and themed menus. Afternoon teas, birthday cakes, and pub lunches make mealtimes social and memorable.

Daily life includes “Move to Music,” flower arranging, Reading Club, Joyful Noise singalongs, and animal therapy visits. Trips, intergenerational events with local schools, and volunteer-run projects bring colour and community throughout the year.

Our friend has been in a previous care home. We visited him there and came away thinking how horrible it was and how frail and poorly he looked.


When we visited him the other day in Gledhow Christian Care Home, we were amazed! The difference was outstanding. It was clean, staff were friendly and

very accommodating. We had tea and cake and nothing was too much trouble. Our friend was eating lunch and looked relaxed, happy and so much brighter! He was up and about and seemed very much at home. We were so happy to see him that way.

I would highly recommend Gledhow Christian Care Home the facilities are very good, always cleaned to a high standard. The staff, in particular, are wonderful, very friendly, chatty, treat the residents as people- making an effort to know what they like and asking the family for preferences etc. They
have regular entertainment for example singers, dog visiting. They also put on meals for families allowing us to eat and enjoy a meal with the family members at the home. There are a range of people in the care home, all relevant needs/requirements seem to be taken care of.

The manager (who was still working at 8pm on a Friday night!) was extremely friendly and helpful despite my ad-hoc visit. She couldn't have been any more welcoming and understanding of my worries regarding my mother and finding a home for her upon discharge from hospital. A credit to your organisation.

My brother has been a resident of Gledhow Care Home since February 2016. Younger than most residents as he has a terminal illness requiring 24-hour care. Gledhow was chosen and I think this warm and friendly home was a really wise decision. My brother needs a high level of care but is comfortable, the
friendly staff are wonderful and committed to doing their best for each of their patients and genuinely care for my brother. The rooms are bright and well maintained and the facilities are good.
As with any long stay patients, there have been times when his condition and care has changed and this has warranted discussions with senior staff. The staff, particularly the manager are very open and honest and deal quickly with any concerns. The Senior Nurse is superb.
I visit almost daily and can honestly say that what has become routine in tragic circumstances is made bearable by the caring attitude of all the staff and the fact that my brother is comfortable and appears happy there. Thank you very much.

We had to choose a care home at short notice for my mother-in-law and one that provided end-of-life care. We had seen a number of homes, but as soon as we walked into Gledhow Christian Care Home it felt right! There was a lot of laughter, smiles and a lovely atmosphere. She was only there for 6 days
but she received the best care ever. I cannot fault the staff and their attentiveness and their kindness - nothing was too much trouble. The carers/staff also looked after the visitors too with endless cups of tea, sandwiches and hugs. Keep up the good work!

The care and personal interaction with my mother-in-law was exceptional. We were allowed to make her toom as near to home as possible. Visiting is so flexible and you are always made welcome no matter how early. I love the fact we could have a cup of tea when we visited and toast if we were hungry.
The nursing staff were always available whenever you need to ask questions, particularly one carer who was with us at the end making sure we were informed of every step.

A group of us visited our friend at Gledhow in Leeds. We were pleasantly surprised to see how happy she was after leaving her home town which she spent most of her life. As soon as we entered the home it appeared it was very well looked after. There was no unpleasant smell around and visitors toilets
were spotless. We were well taken care of at the home with refreshments on hand.
The staff were very friendly, we could see the improvements in our friend from leaving the hospital at Blyth. They brought her to the door on leaving and were reassured we'd be welcome at any time in the future. There appeared plenty of activities.

My friend had a terrible 2015 due to health problems. Originally she was admitted to hospital but thereafter transferred to a community hospital. She was extremely ill and not expected to recover. As time progressed howsoever she did appear to be a little better.


Her family (who live in Leeds) decided

to transfer her to Gledhow. She has now been there for 5 months. I visited her on the 19th of March and was absolutely amazed and delighted when I saw the vast improvement she had made. She was happy and very content. She had gained weight, showing an interest and enjoying conversations. Well done to all the staff for giving her love, care and confidence. Thank you!

My family and I looked at a good number of care homes, and in our opinion Gledhow has topped the rest - impressions were it's cleanliness and after 5 years this hasn't dropped, rather increased.
The ambience of the reside was excellent and a treat to enter, "with an odd exception!!".
The staff couldn't
be more helpful and that most promptly and there is a bonding "patients and visitors!" with the staff. Food-wise, generally good and has improved tremendously
since my wife has been here.
My wife is almost blind/deaf, therefore the activities room doesn't appeal to her. It would be nice for her to have the odd short walk.

Our welcome to the home as we arrived, from the staff was excellent, mum was put at ease. Those present from the manager to carers were very reassuring. Mum has settled in very well, and her every needs are looked after by the staff efficiently and quickly. Communication between staff and my brother
and I has been very good. I think it would be a very good idea if every new arrival and their family received a small induction into the workings of the home such as names of staff, activities, mealtimes and services available. I am still finding out things after two months, the latest being mum can put money into a pouch in the save to pay for the services i.e hair.

We found ourselves at a very difficult time when our mother had to be admitted quickly into respite care. Never having any need before where do you start. We were given the name of Gledhow Christian Care Home and thought a Methodist home would be suitable for the short term, how delighted we were. She
was made instantly welcome and the room was beautifully laid out and clean. The care and compassion shown to her has been wonderful, so much so that she has decided to stay permanently which we are pleased about. Thank you.

My Aunt is currently a resident in this Gledhow Care Home. I cannot praise this home enough. Our family felt so welcome from the first moment we walked through the door and that has continued to the extent that we feel part of a larger family! My Aunt is treated with love, kindness, respect and dignity.
The staff are dedicated, committed, caring, hardworking and wonderful in every aspect of the work they carry out. The atmosphere in the home is second to none...there is laughter, good spirits and positivity everywhere and it is always a pleasure to visit my aunt, as well as some of the other residents that I have come to know since my aunt has been staying there. My late mother was a resident at Gledhow for 15 months. My wife and I would often travel for three hours from our home in Northumberland to see her, and we always received a very warm welcome from the Manager and her staff. Thanks for all the tea and biscuits by the way! The care home was always
clean, tidy and fresh, despite the considerable renovation and renewal work to keep the place in tip-top condition. When my mother first moved into Gledhow, she was rather withdrawn, but the friendly staff encouraged her to socialise with the other residents and she particularly enjoyed the Sunday services led by their chaplain. Gledhow was recommended to me by friends at Wesley Road Chapel in Armley and it turned out to be the perfect solution to mother's special needs. I have absolutely no hesitation in commending Gledhow to anyone who is troubled about finding the best care for a loved one. Thank you all so much.
