Wheldon Complex, Wheldon Road, Castleford WF10 2PY
Fairburn Vale is a rehabilitation service that cares for those with brain injuries and long-term neurological conditions. The focus is on increasing independence and developing life skills of service users.
Following an acquired brain injury, Fairburn Vale work with service users, families and professionals to develop a care and rehabilitation plan centred around the specific individual. It is important service users are cared for, are happy and can work towards their specific goals.
Two 10-bed units, Moor and Turner, have a choice of lounges, spacious dining rooms and a sensory relaxation bathroom. The new sensory bathroom boasts a sound and vision spa bath, awakening senses and providing comfort. Service users are encouraged to decorate their bedrooms as they wish, which allows them to feel more at home and relaxed within their environment. All bedrooms are fitted with TV and telephone points, have WiFi available and also boast an en-suite wet room.
A full-time physiotherapist, occupational therapist and two therapy assistants are on-site, readily available to work with service users in the Life Skills Kitchen, and physiotherapy room to increase independence.
Outings to local attractions, the cinema and entertainment centres are a regular occurrence at Fairburn Vale - a private, accessible minibus means transport is always available.
It is important to provide a healthy and balanced life through social activities, leisure interests and hobbies. The activity team at Fairburn Vale work together with service users to create meaningful activities for all, as well as encourage access to education and volunteering.
