Bilton Hall Nursing Home is a 58 bedded care home which provides residential and nursing care for older people and people living with dementia. A new manager has recently been appointed and residents and relatives can be assured of the continued, excellent standards of care and high-quality facilities in a beautiful tranquil setting.

The home, which is situated in an old manor house, one of the oldest buildings in Harrogate, is set in seven acres of landscaped gardens with extensive lawns, flower beds and mature trees with panoramic views over Knaresborough. There are a range of sitting areas with chairs, tables and parasols to enable the residents to enjoy the outdoors, with a dementia friendly area.

This Jacobean former manor house has up-to-date facilities for up to 60 residents, with all rooms having private en-suite facilities. There are beautiful lounges and dining rooms together with some 'quirky' areas giving residents plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy the company for friends and family.

A person-centred dementia unit has recently been completed offering expert nursing care for people living with dementia. There is a dedicated activities co-ordinator who has developed a programme, offering a wide range of entertainment and activities to suit all tastes.

Situated conveniently between Harrogate & Knaresborough, Bilton Hall offers 24-hour nursing care to residents in a homely, compassionate environment and prides itself on its delicious home-cooked food.

My Dad didn't want to go into a care home. For years he has made us promise we wouldn't do it to him. When he was admitted to hospital, the only way he could leave was to be discharged to a care home. He (and we) were heartbroken as he had been so firm on his decision.
The day before he was discharged
we were able to take his belongings over to set up his room, so that when he moved there were some familiar bits and pieces around.
Straight away the staff made us feel at ease - it was heartwarming to see how much patience and love they had for their residents.
The day after Dad was discharged I went to visit. On entering his room he was chatting to two male nurses about football. They were laughing and joking and this was the first time in a while I had seen my Dad sociable. He was happy - settled - and more importantly, safe. He told me he was living in a 10* hotel. This affirmation was so important to our family. Dad's illness was complicated and passed away the next day, peacefully.

Since my mum came into Bilton Hall following hospital- the staff have been nothing but supportive and caring towards her. All staff interactions I have seen from care staff, the catering team, domestics, activities and administrators have had a positive impact on both her mental and physical wellbeing.
The wider management team have also been good with her and have stopped to say hello on several occasions.
The food is well presented and spoken highly of.

Personal care was excellent, the staff so kind and considerate.
However I don't know why I was sent there in the first place! I do not have dementia!! Everything is geared up for dementia, so I did not join in with the activities after the 1st week. The only people I had any proper conversations with
were residents visitors. I spent a lot of time on my own in my room watching tv or reading. Food was let down by not being warm enough.

My experience of Bilton Hall is that my husband is being cared for by staff who really care for him. They treat him with kindness and respect. They look after both his physical and mental health needs. Bilton Hall extend their care to his family, making us feel very welcome, valued and less stressed.
His room is well furnished and light and airy. The outside environment is attractive and safe and easily accessable to residents who are accompanied by family, friends or carers. The meals are well cooked plentiful and nicely presented.

I have found the staff at Bilton Hall Nursing Home to be very caring and include all residents. The food is plentiful and varied. The surroundings are clean and well-maintained.
All of the staff work very hard and there seems to be good team spirit.

Sadly my cousin died in July after 3 years in the care of Bilton Hall.
I found the staff to be very friendly, and approachable and, more importantly, they were kind and caring towards my cousin who always seemed pleased to see staff when they visited her room, despite her problems and being totally
bed-bound. I saw staff interacting with other residents in the public areas and they were always respectful and kind and spoke with good humour, obviously enjoying their work.
I was kept well informed of any issues, and on the occasion of a more serious problem was able to speak to the temporary manager about it.
I always felt the home was clean, none of the stale odours found in some care homes.
In the end, my cousin was well looked after, as I was at this difficult and upsetting time.

Bilton Hall is not the most modern home but it is homely and the staff create a lovely atmosphere. I can see gradual improvements since my mother moved in. Mum is happy, safe, and well cared for which are my main priorities.

The home is shabby and requires refurbishment. Areas often smell although the new managers have improved things somewhat. The gardens and car park areas need tidying up. The staff are pleasant and friendly and kind to the residents but seem to be short in numbers. Agency staff are not the answer. My
resident friend enjoys his cup of tea and piece of cake in the afternoon and says that the food is good. He is contented and well-liked by all the staff who always speak to him.

I have not been a regular visitor to the home. I do know that my cousin was well looked after and loved by the staff. I dealt more with the financial side and I always found the staff so helpful and kind with everything I needed to sort. He has now, sadly, died and at the funeral there were two lovely
representatives of Bilton Hall Nursing Home. It is a beautiful building in lovely countryside. I would recommend the home without hesitation.

The care my mother receives in Bilton Hall Nursing Home gives me complete peace of mind. She has really settled down and enjoys interacting with the staff.

My friend became a resident at Bilton Hall Nursing Home in April 2023. The staff were very enthusiastic for her to be there but on day one she was left alone and we had a telephone call from her because she didn’t know where to go and didn’t know where her room was.
On our first visit it was extremely
warm and when we mentioned this the housekeeper she told us ‘ They just sit around all day’.
Our friend sadly passed away in August and when we went to collect her belongings the lady on the desk never even said sorry.
All of her personal items went ‘missing’ including jewellery and items we had taken in to help her pass the time and feel at home. We were never advised not to take in personal items.
Her clothes had been packed into two bin bags and when we got them home we found they had included three pairs of heavily soiled knickers! This was very distressing. We sent a list of missing items to the care home manager and still haven’t had a reply. Not what you want at such a sad time.

The outside of the building looks very good with plenty of parking spaces. The inside of the home leaves a lot to be desired, could do with an update and some paint.
Rooms are very basic, the food seems to be well prepared and looked appetising.

Overall the staff are very friendly towards residents and visitors alike, always smiling and welcoming. Unfortunately, the overall appearance of the home and grounds seems neglected and could do with a good overall. Including paving slabs outside the main entrance with are loose and therefore a trip
hazard. So much more could be done to tidy the grounds up to enhance people's stay.
On the last 3 occasions of visiting my mother my wife who is a nurse has had to ask for bed sheets and a duvet cover for my mother, which came almost immediately but we should not have to be asking.
At over £1000 per week, I expect more for a lady who has spent her life caring for others.

All the staff and management worked so hard to offer a loving, caring home-from-home experience for my father. Nothing was too much trouble, you could feel the love and warmth throughout the building. Dad passed away at the end of December, both him and all our family were treated with dignity and respect
throughout the short time dad spent in your care. I would recommend Bilton Hall to anyone looking for first-class care. It's a special place!

Lin is Bilton Hall’s Manager and has several years of experience. Her main interest and experience are in managing successful care homes housing elderly and frail Residents, some of which have mental health issues. Lin is very experienced in the management of care homes and is committed to providing a high–quality service.


She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our Resident's care or any problems they may be experiencing. Lin is keen to work closely and in partnership with our Residents, their relatives and significant others to benefit the Residents in her care. She is a dynamic team leader and has an ongoing interest in professional development and career progression
