Bilton Hall Nursing Home is a 58 bedded care home which provides residential and nursing care for older people and people living with dementia. A new manager has recently been appointed and residents and relatives can be assured of the continued, excellent standards of care and high-quality facilities in a beautiful tranquil setting.

The home, which is situated in an old manor house, one of the oldest buildings in Harrogate, is set in seven acres of landscaped gardens with extensive lawns, flower beds and mature trees with panoramic views over Knaresborough. There are a range of sitting areas with chairs, tables and parasols to enable the residents to enjoy the outdoors, with a dementia friendly area.

This Jacobean former manor house has up-to-date facilities for up to 60 residents, with all rooms having private en-suite facilities. There are beautiful lounges and dining rooms together with some 'quirky' areas giving residents plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy the company for friends and family.

A person-centred dementia unit has recently been completed offering expert nursing care for people living with dementia. There is a dedicated activities co-ordinator who has developed a programme, offering a wide range of entertainment and activities to suit all tastes.

Situated conveniently between Harrogate & Knaresborough, Bilton Hall offers 24-hour nursing care to residents in a homely, compassionate environment and prides itself on its delicious home-cooked food.

From the moment we walked into Bilton Hall Nursing Home we all knew and feel it was the right place for our brother. Warm and all the staff are very friendly. My brother is very happy he loves joining in with all the activities. Definitely recommend.

My friend became a resident at Bilton Hall Nursing Home in April 2023. The staff were very enthusiastic for her to be there but on day one she was left alone and we had a telephone call from her because she didn’t know where to go and didn’t know where her room was.
On our first visit it was extremely
warm and when we mentioned this the housekeeper she told us ‘ They just sit around all day’.
Our friend sadly passed away in August and when we went to collect her belongings the lady on the desk never even said sorry.
All of her personal items went ‘missing’ including jewellery and items we had taken in to help her pass the time and feel at home. We were never advised not to take in personal items.
Her clothes had been packed into two bin bags and when we got them home we found they had included three pairs of heavily soiled knickers! This was very distressing. We sent a list of missing items to the care home manager and still haven’t had a reply. Not what you want at such a sad time.

We know how difficult and disorientating it is when people move into a care home and would like to reassure you that all our new residents are welcomed into the home and introduced to the team as well as being introduced to other residents and encouraged to socialise with them to build friendships. We have an extensive programme of meaningful activities in the home for the health and mental well-being of residents, which everyone is encouraged to take part in. Our team is caring and compassionate at all times, treating residents with the dignity and respect they deserve, even when they pass away. The manager would have been happy to address your concerns at any time during your friend's stay at the home, but no concerns were raised, she would be happy to address your concerns in more detail.

The outside of the building looks very good with plenty of parking spaces. The inside of the home leaves a lot to be desired, could do with an update and some paint.
Rooms are very basic, the food seems to be well prepared and looked appetising.

We are also surprised with your low score for our activities as we have a wide programme of activities and over the last few months this has included entertainers, alpacas visiting and a weekly cheese and wine afternoon. Overall the staff are very friendly towards residents and visitors alike, always smiling and welcoming. Unfortunately, the overall appearance of the home and grounds seems neglected and could do with a good overall. Including paving slabs outside the main entrance with are loose and therefore a trip
hazard. So much more could be done to tidy the grounds up to enhance people's stay.
On the last 3 occasions of visiting my mother my wife who is a nurse has had to ask for bed sheets and a duvet cover for my mother, which came almost immediately but we should not have to be asking.
At over £1000 per week, I expect more for a lady who has spent her life caring for others.

All the staff and management worked so hard to offer a loving, caring home-from-home experience for my father. Nothing was too much trouble, you could feel the love and warmth throughout the building. Dad passed away at the end of December, both him and all our family were treated with dignity and respect
throughout the short time dad spent in your care. I would recommend Bilton Hall to anyone looking for first-class care. It's a special place!

The home is sat on beautiful grounds, well kept and a real delight to take my father for a walk in the wheelchair. The staff were warm and caring, starting from the moment you entered with the admin team. I couldn't recommend the place more highly.

On arrival by ambulance, Mum was warmly greeted by reception, care and nursing staff, who immediately made her feel welcome and at home. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their care and love, which was evident at all times. The Manager made a point of introducing himself to Mum, which was
a lovely, personal touch. Mum was taken to a large, comfortable room with a garden view. Mum's care was put into place immediately, and we left feeling very reassured that her needs would be fully catered for. The family visited regularly and found the care to be first-class and consistent. Mum was treated with dignity at all times. The nursing staff kept the family fully informed of Mum's condition. Staff went the extra mile by making a huge fuss of her 100th birthday, producing a delicious home-baked cake. Sadly Mum passed away after two weeks, without having fully experienced the beautiful surroundings and wonderful amenities on offer. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and professionalism.

Following a broken hip operation, my mother was transferred to Bilton Hall on an interim care bed placement. Whilst here the staff provided a good level of care within a culture of respect and commitment to adapt to specific needs e.g her sight improvement all the team aimed to provide the best level
of care and the catering and support staff, in particular, were kind and helpful. The manager and deputy manager were also proactive in helping to arrange transfer to a downstairs room which was quieter and more appropriate and this helped ensure a peaceful passing.

Mum was admitted to the nursing home during the Covid-19 pandemic so it was difficult to assess things at first. Our experience when restrictions were lifted was that the staff were friendly, helpful and caring. Mum enjoyed the food and the social activities. Her room was always clean and when mum was
diagnosed with end of life the nursing care was outstanding.

My wife, who has Alzheimer's, has recently moved into Bilton Hall. We looked at a number of homes but felt Bilton Hall had the most homely atmosphere where she would feel comfortable. All the staff were very welcoming and helped her to adapt to her new home, and settled in quickly, helping her and making

This end of life home is a disgrace. It’s a very profitable care home yet the owners seem to not invest fairly. Should have been on a tv documentary programme.
Tonight I witnessed tinned spaghetti on white toast as food for someone who is dying. This is not nutrition.
Looking at the most recent accounts
I could find online their profit margins were in the high 30% region. Having grown up in a nursing home I know some of the economics of it. This is a clear case of underinvestment. Shame on the owners.

Collette is Bilton Hall’s Manager and has several years of experience. Her main interest and experience are in managing successful care homes housing elderly and frail Residents, some of whom have mental health issues. Collette is very experienced in the management of care homes and is committed to providing a high–quality service.


She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home, but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our residents' care or any problems they may be experiencing. Collette is keen to work closely and in partnership with our Residents, their relatives and significant others to benefit the Residents in her care. She is a dynamic team leader and has an ongoing interest in professional development and career progression
