Arriving for the first time: Worry.
What can I expect this morning?

I was greeted by a smiling face asking what I would like for breakfast. I was helped to dress and meet some other residents. The staff were all smiling, they were lovely and all introduced themselves over coffee. Then lunch. Then would I like a book or a film? Everyone was happy. It was a home from home. I was going to be here and my worries were allayed. I was glad my family had chosen Ashfield Court for me to live.

Following a respite stay, I returned for a further stay and was greeted like an old friend by all the friendly and caring staff. It felt like coming home. My room on the 2nd floor was light, airy and quiet, which suited me. Good chefs with enough choice on the menu or alternatives to suit needs, and served hot on time.
The activities coordinators enthusiastically arranged a range of events, quizzes, crafts, chats and made sure residents were active.

My care needs were promptly met, and I felt relaxed and secure with a 24hr call button, and went home after 2 weeks better than I went in. Thank you for your care.

I can sum up my experience in one word, kindness.

The staff have such a deep reserve of kindness. They're very friendly too.

Reply from Les Marshall, Home Manager at Ashfield Court

Thank you, I am so happy that Kindness is the word you used, it's not one that is used very often. We do tend to hear Caring and Loving, but the word Kindness just gives you a feeling of warmth, so once again, thank you.

My mum needed a couple of weeks' respite following a recent illness, and she had a comfortable stay in Ashfield Court Care Home. She had a lovely room with an outlook onto the courtyard and enjoyed being able to sit and watch the sky, nature and weather change. She felt safe and secure. The staff were so kind to her, and she commented on this. She also needed a different mattress, and this was organised quickly for her, and then she had comfortable rest. There is an excellent programme of activities for residents to partake in, but Mum would have done more if she had felt well. In summary, she was well looked after, and I was happy knowing that she was in the good hands of a lovely, caring team.

My mother of 93 was drawn to Ashfield Court but its sense of family. Since arriving she has found herself surrounded by kindness and patience. Carers quickly got to know mum's character and her preferred routines. They gave her the space to settle in at her own pace. She has enjoyed being able to go outside, tend plants, explore the library, watch a film and begin to make friends. Meals are a highlight, and she can't speak highly enough of the chef. Her health and happiness have increased because of this. I did worry that mum may feel isolated living at the top of the building, but she loves the view, is frequently checked in on and enjoys an independent morning walk around the building. Many of the staff have been part of the team for many years and obviously enjoy caring. Mum has begun to trust that she only has to ask for what she needs, and nothing is too much trouble. Mum feels safe. Having a nursing team on site helps and a to of her anxieties have been lifted. So too have mine and I can relax into simply being a daughter again.

The care my dad receives at Ashfield Court is fantastic and just right for him. They seem to 'get dad'. All members of staff from management, admin, nurses, carers, cleaners, dining room, activities, volunteers etc are professional and friendly and they spend time even though they may not have time. A massive thank you to each and every one for making Dad's last however long special.

My father moved into Ashfield Court in March 2021 with 3 months of funding for end-of-life care. Now 3.5 years on and aged 98 I cannot fault the care he has received. He enjoys the mix of activities provided and quiet time in his room. Volunteers assist him with hospital visits and the library supplies large print books. Ashfield Court is a very pleasant and caring place to visit. Thank you.

My mother and stepfather came into Ashfield Court just before the first lockdown. They were there until December 2023 (Mum) and June 2024 (stepfather). During that time, the nursing home had to deal with Covid and all that followed. The nursing care has been excellent throughout that difficult 4 year period.

I was immediately taken by the staff who were all courteous, understanding, helpful and approachable
This was much appreciated at a stressful and difficult time.
I was listened to from the outset, both at the initial viewing of the home and on arrival in my sleep deprived state!
The home whilst not a state-of-the-art purpose-built care home, is nevertheless a workable endearing building to provide the care needed for the residents.
Good level of cleanliness, varied menus and has a welcoming family atmosphere I quickly warmed to and established a good relationship with all the fabulous hard working team.
From the carers, to the nurses, activities coordinators, office team, caretaker to the management I give praise and gratitude to them all.
I feel confident that I can speak to any department with any queries or concerns
The nursing staff are communicative, transparent and caring I feel my mum is well looked after

The entire team are conscientious, patient and understanding.

All the staff provide excellent support and care to all the residents interacting in a very friendly manner with the residents and also the visitors. In this regard, now the need for masks has been removed, the relationships between staff, residents and visitors are more normal and enjoyable. All the facilities are bright, well-decorated and spotlessly clean. Where paintings and items from home can be placed in the resident's room, it makes it more comfortable and friendly. I particularly look forward to joining in with a cup of tea and biscuit in the afternoon, not forgetting a glass of wine on a Friday.

Les MarshallJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 2011

Hello, I am Les your Home Manager at Ashfield Court.

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1997 after volunteering on a hospital ward and realised my passion for care.

I came to Rosedale in 2011 as a nurse and worked my way to a deputy position at the home becoming Deputy Manager in 2014 and then Manager in August 2019.

Les believe the most important aspect of a happy care home is ensuring that his residents and staff are happy and well looked after. By supporting the staff at the home and ensuring they are getting the best out of what they are doing and achieving their goals makes Ashfield Court the wonderful home it is.

We are one big happy family at Ashfield Court.
