Ashfield Court Nursing Home is located close to the Stray public parkland on Tewitt Well Road and walking distance to many of the local attractions in the town centre. This glamourous, late 1800s building was the former Barnardo’s Roberts Memorial Home, used to care for boys from 1910 until 1947 when the home first became a convalescent home. The home, which has retained many of its original features, specialises in care for adult services, including nursing, residential, respite and palliative care, as well as opening its doors to the public as a day care centre.

Inside the home, which is located over 3 floors, you will find a modern lounge, comfortable dining rooms and conservatory on the ground floor. The bedrooms in the basement boast access to a private, secure courtyard, spacious lounge and dining room. All of the bedrooms have ensuite facilities are provided with furniture and there are communal shower rooms and bath amenities.

Parking is available on the main road and side streets to the home for visitors accessing the home by car. The number 36, A2 Flyer and X52.

They have two dedicated activities coordinators on-site and residents enjoy activities in and out of the home which includes trips out, entertainers in the home, crafts, prize bingo, gardening, home baking, dominos, knit and knatter club and activities for special events. For residents who do enjoy quiet time to themselves, there are board games available as well as 1-1 time in resident bedrooms.

They have a 5-star award in Food Hygiene and believe food is a huge aspect of their care at Ashfield Court. Residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

Their door is always open to visitors and they will be delighted to send you further information in the post including brochure, sample menu and sample activities pack.

A welcoming, caring, friendly environment. Dad has been very well cared for since moving in last summer.

Thank you for your review, your dad is a fantastic gentleman, I personally love chatting with him, been a keen golfer as he was. He always asks about how I have played at the weekend, which always ends up in a great chat.

My mother of 93 was drawn to Ashfield Court but its sense of family. Since arriving she has found herself surrounded by kindness and patience. Carers quickly got to know mum's character and her preferred routines. They gave her the space to settle in at her own pace. She has enjoyed being able to go
outside, tend plants, explore the library, watch a film and begin to make friends. Meals are a highlight, and she can't speak highly enough of the chef. Her health and happiness have increased because of this. I did worry that mum may feel isolated living at the top of the building, but she loves the view, is frequently checked in on and enjoys an independent morning walk around the building. Many of the staff have been part of the team for many years and obviously enjoy caring. Mum has begun to trust that she only has to ask for what she needs, and nothing is too much trouble. Mum feels safe. Having a nursing team on site helps and a to of her anxieties have been lifted. So too have mine and I can relax into simply being a daughter again.

Thank you for those wonderful kind words, your mum is definitely very popular around the home. I can't say I have ever seen your mum without a smile on her face and a sense of purpose of where she is going. I am so pleased that we, as a home, are providing you with comfort and reassurance in the care and attention we give to your mum. To have you both recognise that, makes what we all do worthwhile,

The care my dad receives at Ashfield Court is fantastic and just right for him. They seem to 'get dad'. All members of staff from management, admin, nurses, carers, cleaners, dining room, activities, volunteers etc are professional and friendly and they spend time even though they may not have time.
A massive thank you to each and every one for making Dad's last however long special.

My father moved into Ashfield Court in March 2021 with 3 months of funding for end-of-life care. Now 3.5 years on and aged 98 I cannot fault the care he has received. He enjoys the mix of activities provided and quiet time in his room. Volunteers assist him with hospital visits and the library supplies
large print books. Ashfield Court is a very pleasant and caring place to visit. Thank you.

From our first visit selecting Ashfield Court for my Mum to our last visit following her death, this home was welcoming supportive and kind. The friendly feeling of a real home was always present and the care was warm, compassionate and excellent. Mum felt safe and cherished and so did we. So thank
you so much.

My mother and stepfather came into Ashfield Court just before the first lockdown. They were there until December 2023 (Mum) and June 2024 (stepfather). During that time, the nursing home had to deal with Covid and all that followed. The nursing care has been excellent throughout that difficult 4 year
period.

From our first visit, we felt that Ashfield Court would be a lovely place for Mum to live and that they could offer all the support she needs. The staff are fabulous and have made every effort to help Mum settle in and live as good a life as possible. We know she is in good hands, and that helps us
so much. The biggest possible thank you to everyone at Ashfield Court.

I was immediately taken by the staff who were all courteous, understanding, helpful and approachable
This was much appreciated at a stressful and difficult time.
I was listened to from the outset, both at the initial viewing of the home and on arrival in my sleep deprived state!
The home whilst
not a state-of-the-art purpose-built care home, is nevertheless a workable endearing building to provide the care needed for the residents.
Good level of cleanliness, varied menus and has a welcoming family atmosphere I quickly warmed to and established a good relationship with all the fabulous hard working team.
From the carers, to the nurses, activities coordinators, office team, caretaker to the management I give praise and gratitude to them all.
I feel confident that I can speak to any department with any queries or concerns
The nursing staff are communicative, transparent and caring I feel my mum is well looked after
The entire team are conscientious, patient and understanding.

What a wonderful place. From the top man, through the care staff and all trained staff. Without fail they all show great kindness and willingness to help in any way they can. I was impressed by the look and communal spaces of this home. Very well presented and cleaned. Nothing was too much for anyone.
They
assisted me in my recovery and I remain grateful to one and all. Thank you.

All the staff provide excellent support and care to all the residents interacting in a very friendly manner with the residents and also the visitors. In this regard, now the need for masks has been removed, the relationships between staff, residents and visitors are more normal and enjoyable. All the
facilities are bright, well-decorated and spotlessly clean. Where paintings and items from home can be placed in the resident's room, it makes it more comfortable and friendly. I particularly look forward to joining in with a cup of tea and biscuit in the afternoon, not forgetting a glass of wine on a Friday.

Staff are very helpful and friendly. Variety of meals is generally good, although sometimes challenging for the age of residents, eg. large sausage roll for tea, chicken with bones, goats cheese stack. Excellent room but ensuite small and dated.
Fees are high, especially with recent eight percent
increase. No discount given when residents are in hospital, although no care or meals received.

The home was nice and tidy. The manager greeted me and after covid checks, he kindly took me to see my friends. He was just right in his approach, he was very kind. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.629)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.629) out of 10 for Ashfield Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Ashfield Court is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashfield Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
