Ashfield Court Nursing Home is located close to the Stray public parkland on Tewitt Well Road and walking distance to many of the local attractions in the town centre. This glamourous, late 1800s building was the former Barnardo’s Roberts Memorial Home, used to care for boys from 1910 until 1947 when the home first became a convalescent home. The home, which has retained many of its original features, specialises in care for adult services, including nursing, residential, respite and palliative care, as well as opening its doors to the public as a day care centre.

Inside the home, which is located over 3 floors, you will find a modern lounge, comfortable dining rooms and conservatory on the ground floor. The bedrooms in the basement boast access to a private, secure courtyard, spacious lounge and dining room. All of the bedrooms have ensuite facilities are provided with furniture and there are communal shower rooms and bath amenities.

Parking is available on the main road and side streets to the home for visitors accessing the home by car. The number 36, A2 Flyer and X52.

They have two dedicated activities coordinators on-site and residents enjoy activities in and out of the home which includes trips out, entertainers in the home, crafts, prize bingo, gardening, home baking, dominos, knit and knatter club and activities for special events. For residents who do enjoy quiet time to themselves, there are board games available as well as 1-1 time in resident bedrooms.

They have a 5-star award in Food Hygiene and believe food is a huge aspect of their care at Ashfield Court. Residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

Their door is always open to visitors and they will be delighted to send you further information in the post including brochure, sample menu and sample activities pack.

My 95-year-old father was transferred to Ashfield Court from hospice three months ago, needing full support from their team. A care home was the only option given his needs, despite his prior statement that he would never go to a care home. Since then the team at Ashfield Court have provided full physical
and medical support to enable him to quickly settle in his new home. I have been very impressed with all of the staff at Ashfield Court who have always demonstrated patience, compassion, and care in their work, and in all aspects, the team are organised and well managed. Three months on my father has settled well and despite his intent to never set foot in a care home, and he recognises that this is the only practical option given his health. As it fell to me to find a suitable home for my father to move to, I relied on CQC reviews and a visit to Ashfield Court. I am very happy that I made the right decision by moving my father there, and can highly recommend it.

Staff have been wonderful in caring for my aunt and supporting myself (her niece) and her daughter, particularly during these difficult times. I can not thank them enough in being so accommodating and caring. They are all amazing and I feel 100% happy with the choice of home I made.

From the minute my husband arrived at Ashfield Court he was made to feel at home. He was treated with a superb level of care and support for his complex needs. He and all his visitors were made incredibly welcome. In his final days, as difficult as they were, the care and kindness shown by all the staff
was exceptional. I cannot thank the manager and all his staff enough for all their kindness.

Ashfield Court is a well run, beautifully maintained, and homely setting for all residents. The staff are thoughtful, attentive and kind. My mum has lived here for 6 months now, the team have helped her to settle and feel part of a family. As her children, we feel both listened to closely involved with
her care and wellbeing, and that any concerns are dealt with quickly and attentively.
Mum's room is lovely, airy, light and private with a direct door to the courtyard. The quality of food is outstanding.

My parents at 101 and 96 respectively, took the decision to become permanent residents after hospital stays and convalescence at Ashfield. This major decision for them and for us was eased considerably by senior staff who spent time reassuring and explaining, reinforcing our belief that it was the right
decision.
The transition was handled with such understanding and compassion by all. Staff were supportive, caring, understood their needs and settled them in, making them feel loved.
I am welcomed when I visit and enjoy seeing all aspects of the home, the rooms, the meals and the various activities delivered with warmth and compassion.
In these exceptional times, the staff continue to work with kindness, great attention to detail and fantastic goodwill. As a family, we are reassured that they are in such a safe environment with the staff taking every precaution. They always help us to keep in touch.
It is a genuinely happy home, just the place you would wish for your precious parents.

Mum recently moved into Ashfield Court and I just want to say what a lovely warm welcome she has received. I was extremely anxious as to how she would take the move, but the staff are all so very good here showing great care and understanding. It almost seems unfair to single anyone out but I have to
especially thank senior carer for her great professionalism and kindness on the day of admission. It was totally down to her that mum was gently eased into her room and accepted the move so very well. Thank you.

I would like to commend the manager of the Ashfield Care Home to you. I was extremely grateful for the seamless transition and continuity in management from the change in September 2019, with the current manager's previous profile within Ashfield ensuring the current high standards and indeed building
on, the previous manager's excellent provision. Full credit to the manager for his continuity, ensuring that the high and valued standards of the Ashfield provision are maintained. MMCG could not do better.

1. On 28th January I found the home was giving my father his tablets in the afternoon, not with his meal. The instructions are to take the tablets with food, so this was upsetting him. Please would home follow the doctor's/pharmacist's instructions when giving medications.
2. The 2019 pre-Christmas
celebration was not publicised. I found out about it when I visited my father the day before. I felt sorry for the entertainer, there were so few people watching that she struggled to create an atmosphere of celebration.

The stress and worry of putting my mum in a home was totally lifted when we found Ashfield Court and the manager. The feel of the place is so friendly and welcoming from both staff and residents, my mum thinks she’s in a very nice hotel and is extremely fond of all the staff. The manager has been incredibly
supportive and understanding, and made moving and settling mum in a very calm and easy process. He and his great team are always there to help and advise and understand mum's individual needs, it’s as if they’ve all known her for years and embrace her little ways, like her need to tidy up. My mum has only been living at Ashfield a few months but has settled well and is very happy there. Not only is mum a part of the Ashfield Court family now, so is our whole family as they have made us all feel very welcomed and supported. It is a joy to spend time with mum and all the staff, and we know she is happy, safe and wonderfully cared for. Thank you to the whole Ashfield Team, you're all amazing.

Ashfield Court has a family feel. It is well decorated, clean and welcoming. All the staff (carers, caterers, cleaners, management) are very friendly and I feel they care for me as much as Mum sometimes. There is not a huge turnover of staff so I have got to know many of them quite well. They all seem
happy in their jobs and cope with some challenging situations with kindness, patience and respect.

There seems to have been a deterioration in standard in the last couple of years, especially regarding the food. It seems there is a young chef who is maybe not trained in the needs of the elderly.

I visit my friend on a regular interval for over 6 months. I worked with her nearly 50 years ago and have kept in touch since and regularly visit her in Ashfield Court.
She is always pleased to see us - me and my wife- and she is always neat and tidy and looks settled and content. The staff we have
talked to seem very friendly and helpful and my friend is always in a positive except when she is tired because we vary our times of visiting.

My sister's care continues to be professional, consistent and compassionate. The staff are friendly, happy and hardworking. Ashfield Court is always welcoming, bright and airy. It is kept clean and tidy - there is almost a sense of a hotel. I believe that they work well as a team and management support
and care for their staff. Which is reflected in how the residents are cared for and the general running of the home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.629)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.629) out of 10 for Ashfield Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Ashfield Court is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashfield Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2011

Hello, I am Les your Home Manager at Ashfield Court.

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1997 after volunteering on a hospital ward and realised my passion for care.

I came to Rosedale in 2011 as a nurse and worked my way to a deputy position at the home becoming Deputy Manager in 2014 and then Manager in August 2019.

Les believe the most important aspect of a happy care home is ensuring that his residents and staff are happy and well looked after. By supporting the staff at the home and ensuring they are getting the best out of what they are doing and achieving their goals makes Ashfield Court the wonderful home it is.

We are one big happy family at Ashfield Court.
