Handled the pandemic very well. Full PPE early on. Residents informed well. Testing started fairly early. Recently a lack of leadership noted by residents and relatives. Early on use of agency staff very worrying for residents, staff and relatives. New recruitment now which is better for everyone.

As I have only been here for two to three months but I have enjoyed meeting all and talking to many people. With 'lockdown' I have missed a lot but have been kept busy with all the good ideas - making, baking, knitting and reading. Hopefully, next year I will be able to see and do more.
This also covers
treatment I have been having from hospital and specifically a doctor. Being with all these people, the staff specifically for looking after me so well.

I came to Hampden House, aged 92, in 2019 having been widowed over 1 year. I knew from my husband's stay of the friendliness of the staff, good meals and activities so had no fears in coming. I have a lovely room overlooking a garden lawn and trees and being mobile, can enjoy walking each day. Come
March, came lockdown and meals on trays, staff wearing masks, temperature checks but gradually and with great care, we can now sit 4 to a table for lunch and exercise can be held with social distancing observed. Visitors come by arrangement to a room set aside and sitting behind plastic dividers at the table. Great care is taken of us and I have relief and gladness at being here.

After several stays over about 7 years, some brief, others longer, I have found my latest visit much more pleasant, despite the 'corona' restrictions. There seems to be an atmosphere of much more general brightness, on all sides. (Not only in the greatly modernised public areas)

My mother has lived in Hampden House for the last 10 months. She seems very happy and settled and is full of praise for the staff. Despite the huge challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and the inevitable isolation that was a result, she is very sure that she is in the right place for her. She chooses
not to join most activities but is very grateful that they are provided. We hope she will make more friends in the future.

Very organised at reception to ensure COVID-19 procedures followed. Proves it is working as the home has been subject to so few cases of the virus - fantastic!! Lovely staff, all said hello to me as they passed by the room as we sat in the gazebo. Great care is taken of Dad which means I no longer worry
about his safety and wellbeing. Thank you.

I absolutely cannot fault the care my mother is receiving at Hampden House. She has a lovely room with a view over the garden and has settled in very well. All of the staff are very friendly and caring. I feel that she is completely safe there and is in the best place.

Staffing. Many staff are excellent and do go above and beyond for residents. However, there are just one or two whose attitude and demeanor suggest to residents that they are being overly demanding with regard to toileting. On the whole, food and drink are good and varied but there are occasional blips
where a meal is poor, mainly at weekends. Activities and facilities have been restricted due to the virus. As lockdown begins to ease it is very important for the health and wellbeing of the residents that these are restored/completed as soon as is safely possible. Overall we are extremely grateful to all staff for keeping all our loved ones safe during these very challenging times.

A well-run home, very efficient, staff are very helpful and cheerful, a sense of calm towards the home. During the pandemic, they have coped extremely well and kept on top of the virus with no cases since 04/05.20. My wife's medical care has been looked after diligently and appointments kept, sometimes
by phone. An excellent home.

My father needed respite care and this was arranged very quickly. Hampden House has provided a safe and caring environment for Dad. He has dementia which combined with the current restrictions because of COVID makes things difficult. The staff have all been very supportive of Mum and I and he is receiving

Laura Newall

Laura Newall is the Registered Manager at Hampden House. With over 23 years at Hampden House, Laura’s career has progressed from carer to senior carer and then Head of Residential Care. Holding NVQ Levels 2 and 3, as well as a Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification, she brings extensive expertise and a deep commitment to resident well-being. Laura aims to enhance residents' quality of life while fostering the professional growth of her team.

Jane has spent her whole career in the Health and Social Care Sector. Initially working as a care assistant in the community and in nursing homes, Jane later became a Care Manager and Health and Safety Manager for a private care agency where she taught First Aid, Moving and Handling and Fire Awareness.


After qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2012, Jane became a Staff Nurse on a medical ward at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and was subsequently promoted to the role of Rotational Ward Sister. In 2016, Jane joined Hampden House as a Staff Nurse, was subsequently promoted to the role of Unit Manager and then to Clinical Care Manager and is now Deputy Manager.
