Barchester Dales Care Home

I have been a temporary resident respite care after a bad fall. I have visited friends here and I knew it was a good place, then and it still is now. The whole team work so hard to make sure you are happy. I had an excellent room, very clean. The staff are excellent making sure you are safe & happy. The meals were good & my clothes were washed regularly to a high standard. The staff made time to listen, if ever I find myself in a situation where I need full time care this would be my first choice.

All staff are very caring understanding and friendly. I know I can approach anyone with concerns and questions at any time. Regular activities where relatives are encouraged to attend. Overall The Dales has a very homely atmosphere.

When my father suddenly and unexpectedly needed to move into a care home in May 2026, The Dales in Draughton became our immediate savior. From the relaxing initial interview, the family were given the confidence and assurance that this was a lovely, clean, caring and professional environment. Set in a beautiful small hamlet and valley, parking is easy and we always receive a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. The rooms, lounge and restaurant are invitingly set out, and it is a pleasure to visit. Equally, the family receive constant updates on my father's health and the numerous social activities taking place (which we are also invited to attend). My father was the sort of man who never wanted to live in a care home, yet he is truly happy to be here and has made many friends with residents and the staff. Most importantly, he feels safe, secure and professionally looked after. Thank you.

The Barchester Dales Care Home is a truly hidden gem in the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Beautifully decorated and modern inside with a gorgeous restaurant with a daily menu board. The staff go out of their way to give the residents any food they fancy, which is brilliant for a very fussy eater such as my mother in law. The care home general manager Roisin is absolutely the best, friendly, great sense of humour and brilliant at getting the very best care for your loved one. The carers will just pop in to my mother-in-law's room just to say hello while passing and her face lights up when she sees them, as she now knows all the familiar carers faces, an important thing for a dementia sufferer.The staff ratio/residents is great and they really do have the time to care for your loved one properly and they take the time to get to know all the relatives. Lovely bright rooms and lounge. I can highly recommend The Barchester Dales Care Home enough for your loved one. A fantastic home from home.

We have always been impressed by the standards of care and nursing care given to my mum, since coming into care. The staff are extremely kind, attentive, and friendly to my mum and to us as her family. We are so happy that this is the carehome she now resides in. I feel confident that my mum is being given the care and attention that she needs, and that she is safe.

Excellent in every way. I find the staff wonderful, from the nurses, cleaners, kitchen and laundry service. Every time that I visit, I am greeted by members of staff and I feel the warmth from them. A truly wonderful Care Home.

Mum is very reluctant to eat and drink but the staff have gone to great lengths to find foods which will tempt her (usually ice cream and bourbon biscuits). They have endless patience encouraging her and tempting her to eat. Mym could not be getting better care.

I have noted on several occasions that residents can be largely ignored while staff are on their phones. This is particularly sad for more lucid residents who are sometimes treated like naughty children. Today I observed 4 of 5 staff all on their phones (4:15 pm) whilst one resident repeatedly asked to be moved near another resident so they could talk. There is little social interactions. Jigsaw I bought in months ago has never been touched (as far as I am aware). I wasn't going to complete the review, but was persuaded to by your receptionist.

Lovely care home, very friendly and comfy. My mum loves the food, the view from the windows. Garden outside well kept, colourful. Lots of outdoor seeting. Very happy with our choice this was a big deal for us. All staff kind and willing to have a chat. Would like to see more activities that have the residents involved eg - craft making, crochet, seed planting, bingo, dominoes, games, etc.

On arriving at The Dales it felt as though I was walking into my home and family. The staff, without exception, have been so caring, supportive and eager to make my 2 week respite a positive experience. My accommodation and food have been top quality and of an incredibly high standard providing me with any requests I made instantly, nothing was too much trouble - wonderful. My every need has been fulfilled with a smile and friendly banter which was reciprocated and this makes for a happy, comfortable atmosphere and a feeling of total acceptance - fantastic. I cannot find any fault and would recommend The Dales to anyone, whatever their need. Thank you for taking such good care of me.

The Dales is a very friendly, welcoming & efficiently run home, where my mother has settled in comfortably. Her care needs are met very well, the staff are very kind & caring & the accomodation is superb.

My mother arrived last May after a fall at home followed by a week in hospital. She was undernourished and very frail. After only a few weeks at the Dales, she had put on weight and was in a better state generally. Despite wishing she was still at home, she has become used to living in a care home and seems content. The care she receives is excellent.

Staff are kind and friendly and they put on some great events for residents, including trips out in the minibus. Relatives are free to come and go as they wish and this often includes their animals! There is a nice homely atmosphere. Nursing staff always let you know about any health concerns and the food is good!

Activities are fun and cheerful, even if just to watch.

My sister requires the highest level of care and I can see a lot of consideration has gone into her placement in her room so she can look out of the window and has a lovely view. Thank you for looking after her.

My sister-in-law seems relaxed and happy. Dementia apparent and mood swings determine my visits - sometimes clarity, often asleep. Confident that she is as happy as can be in her health circumstances.

Lovely staff who are great people and put up with a lot.

Carers, nurses, management and associated staff were all courteous, kind and professional from day one. There was definitely a team spirit in evidence with consistently high standards of care shown. Liason with the external health team was good and information shared appropriately. My mum's dignity was maintained at all times.

The Dales Care Home provides excellent care for my mum. The staff are extremely diligent, friendly and attentive to all my mum's needs. The food is amazing and the dining room gives residents the restaurant atmosphere. Activities are outstanding and the activities coordinator is a 'breath of fresh air' with lots of ideas making my mum's life in the home full of fun. I would highly recommend The Dales.
